Molins Film Festival was established in 1973 in Molins de Rei (Barcelona). In October-November 2023 we will hold the 42th edition.
Known as TerrorMolins, the Festival consists of a competitive Feature Films Official Sections, Short Films Official Section, Retrospectives, Documentaries, Live shows, Workshops, Networking/Pitching, projections for high-schools, projections for children... and one of the oldest horror movies marathon in the world, our 12 Hours Horror Movies Marathon (1973) ...
MHFF - Molins Horror Film Festival is one of the oldest festivals dedicated solely to horror in Spain and in Europe. The Festival is a member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF).

Molins Horror Film Festival 2023
1. The Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival is a
competitive festival devoted to the horror
genre as stated in the terms and regulations
established by the Festival.
2. All feature films must be submitted
through one of the platforms associated to
the Festival: Either Festhome.
3. Competition entries will start on February
1, 2023.
4. The submission deadline for feature films is
September 4, 2023.
5. The Programming committee of the
Festival will select the feature films entering
to competition and will determine in which
section each feature film will be included
once agreed with its representative (agent,
distributor, producer, etc…).
6. The Festival consists of the following
sections:
● Official Selection
● Being Different
● Bloody Madness
● True Survivor
● Retrospectives (non-competitive)
● Tributes (non-competitive)
7. Official Selection. All feature films whose
content might be considered as belonging to
such the horror genre can take part in the
competition. No claims against the Jury’s
decisions will be accepted and no awards
may be declared neither void nor ex-aequo. A
specialized jury, appointed by the Festival, will
award the following prizes:
● Best Feature Film
● Best Director
● Best Performance
● Best Special Effects / Makeup
● Best Screenplay
● Best Soundtrack
● Best Photography
The audience will award by means of a
polling process the Audience Award
“Official Selection”
8. Being Different. All feature films whose
content might be considered as belonging to
such the horror genre can take part in the
competition. No claims against the Jury’s
decisions will be accepted and no awards
may be declared neither void nor ex-aequo. A
specialized jury, appointed by the Festival, will
award the following prizes:
● Best Feature film
● Best Director
● best Actor
● Best Actress
● Best Screenplay
The audience will award by means of a
polling process the Audience Award “Being
Different”
9. Bloody Madness. All feature films whose
content might be considered as belonging to
such the horror genre can take part in the
competition. No claims against the Jury’s
decisions will be accepted and no awards
may be declared neither void nor ex-aequo. A
specialized jury, appointed by the Festival, will
award the following prizes:
● Best Feature film
● Best Director
● Best Performance
● Best Special Effects / Makeup
The audience will award by means of a
polling process the Audience Award
“Bloody Madness”.
10. True Survivor. All feature films whose
content might be considered as belonging to
such the horror genre can take part in the
competition.
The audience will award by means of a
polling process the Audience Award “True
Survivor”.
11. In order to promote the screenings, movie
senders will provide the Festival with all
advertising materials such as photos, posters,
press dossiers, trailer, etc. If necessary,
adequate materials that enable the festival to
subtitle the film for exhibition shall be
provided. The Festival reserves the right of
keeping these materials when the Festival is
over.
12. Only DCP will be accepted.
13.The Festival will not accept movie copies
that do not fit the essential exhibition quality
requirements.
14. The Festival will assume the shipping
expenses of the movies to be exhibited except
if the destination is another festival. If such
festival-to-festival posting was necessary, the
receiving festival will assume the shipping
expenses from our address to theirs.
15. In the eventuality of damaged copies due
to the exhibition during the Festival, the
owner will inform the Festival within the
following 15 days after the delivery date. The
responsibility of the Festival will never be
higher than the edition of a new copy,
according to the current standard fees
charged by the laboratories on the edition of
standard copies.
16. The Organisation of the Festival will decide
on the exhibition date and hour scheduling.
17. Entering the contest implies full
acceptance of its Rules and Regulations.
18. Should any dispute arise regarding the
interpretation of an article in these
regulations as well as any other eventuality
will be settled by the Festival in agreement
with international regulations.

Rules & Regulations Short Films Competition
Festival de Cine de Terror de Molins de Rei 2023
1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
1.1 Short films must not exceed 18 minutes in
length (including credits)
1.2 Works which do not fit the horror genre will be
automatically rejected.
1.3 All short films must have been produced after
January 1st, 2022.
1.4 Sections: The short films may be nominated
within the following sections:
1.4.1 Official Section: The competition has an
international scope.
1.4.2 Secció Ç-Trencada: this section will be
devoted to short films with Catalan direction or
production or Catalan spoken.
1.4.3 Secció TerrorKids: this section will be
devoted to short films for children. This section
has no production date limit.
1.4.4 Secció Globus: non-competitive showcase
of short films, focused on all kinds of human,
cultural and/or functional diversities.
1.5 Participants will personally respond for any
affront or violation of the rights of third persons
(intellectual or industrial property, industrial
exploitation, right to honour, privacy y own
image, as well as any other third party right) that
might be deduced from their films contents. The
Festival will remain exempt from any
responsibility.
1.6 Films submitted to preceding editions will be
ineligible.
2. REGISTRATION AND SELECTION
2.1 Submissions will be made through the
Festival partner platforms: either FESTHOME.
2.2 Submissions will start on February 1st, 2023.
2.3 The deadline for short films is August 15th
2023, and participating short films must have
arrived prior to this date. Films received after this
date will not be accepted.
2.4 All entering short films will contain English
subtitles (optional for English spoken short films).
2.5 An internal Festival committee will assess the
productions fitting the minimal requirements
and will decide which of them can be part of the
Festival's Official Section or the Section
Ç-Trencada or TerrorKids Section or Secció
Globus.
3. SHORT FILMS SELECTED
3.1 The authors (or contact persons) of short films
admitted to be at the Festival will be notified by
email. They will also be informed of which of the
sections will include their work: either
competitive Official Section or Section
Ç-Trencada, or TerrorKids Section or Secció
Globus.
3.2 The short films selected for competition will
be announced through the Festival's own media
and social networks. Once the announcement
has been published, the short films' authors will
be able to make their own announcements but
not before. The Festival has the priority for
publishing and promoting the short films to be
included in the Official Section, the Section
Ç-Trencada, TerrorKids Section and Secció
Globus.
3.3 Once a film has been selected, it cannot be
withdrawn from the Festival programme for any
reason whatsoever.
3.4 Minimal screening requirements: subtitles
and technical details.
- Short films selected must be sent in H264
format.
- Subtitles must be provided in an unembedded
SRT format file.
a) All selected short films spoken in other
languages than Catalan or Spanish will provide
unembedded subtitles in either Catalan or
Spanish in unembedded SRT format.
b) All selected short films will also provide
unembedded subtitles in English in
unembedded SRT format (optional for English
spoken short films).
4. JURY AND AWARDS
4.1 Official Section
4.1.1 The Jury will consist of people connected
with the world of cinema and culture.
4.1.2 The Festival is a member of the Méliès
International Festivals Federation (MIFF), so
those short films of the Official Section which
satisfy the committee requirements may be
nominated for the Méliès d’Argent award.
4.1.3 The selected short films of the Official
Section will compete for the following awards:
A. Award to the Best Short Film
1200 euros
B. Award to the Best Screenplay
400 euros
C. Award to the Best SFX and/or Make-up
400 euros
D. Award “Víctor Israel” to the Best
Performance
E. Award “Manel Gibert” of the Audience
F. Award “Méliès d'Argent” to the Best
European Short Film
4.1.4 Awards cannot be declared ex aequo or
void.
4.1.5 The Jury has the right to award Special
Mentions to participants.
4.2 Section Ç-Trencada
4.2.1 The Jury will consist of people connected
with the world of cinema and culture.
4.2.2 The short films selected to competition will
be nominated for the
Award to the Best Short Film Secció Ç-Trencada.
Award of the audience to the Best Short Film
Secció Ç-Trencada.
4.2.3 The awards cannot be declared ex aequo or
void.
4.2.4 The Jury has the right to award one special
mention to participants.
4.3 TerrorKids Section
4.3.1 The short films selected to competition will
be nominated for the
Award to the Best Short Film TerrorKids Section.
Award of the audience “Caca a la Butaca” [Shit on
the Seat] TerrorKids Section.
4.3.2 The awards cannot be declared ex aequo or
void.
4.3.3 The Jury has the right to award one special
mention to participants.
4.4 All Catalan produced short-films included in
one of the sections of the Festival will be
pre-nominated to the TAC Awards given by the
Federació d’Entitats Cinèfiles Terror Arreu de
Catalunya.
5. FINAL CLARIFICATIONS
5.1 Entering the contest implies full acceptance of
its Rules and Regulations. Otherwise the short
will be disqualified.
5.2 Should any dispute arise regarding the
interpretation of an article in these regulations as
well as any other eventuality, it will be settled by
the Festival.
5.3 The organisation holds the right to modify the
Rules and Regulations with prior
communication.
5.4 Short films to competition opting for the
Méliès d’Argent award, will follow the rules of the
Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF).
5.5 All the short films submitted will be
incorporated to the Festival's video library. The
organisation of the Festival will keep the right of
using part or all of the presented material in the
promotion of the Festival as well as the short-film
world itself, always in non-profit terms.
