Entries are open to features and documentaries with a minimum length of 60 minutes.

The films must have been produced after January 1st, 2017.

The films participating in the TALENTS, DIRECTIONS and TRANSITIONS section must be at least Catalan premiere.

In any case, all films selected (except the Special Sessions and the Retrospective) can’t be exhibited on VOD in Spain before the festival.

All selected films will be screened in their original version with Catalan or Spanish subtitles if they are not spoken in either Catalan or Spanaish. If a film does not include Spanish or Catalan subtitles, the film representatives will be asked to provide a subtitle list and a DVD or permanent link with the same cut as the screening print, in order to make electronic subtitles.

Each spring, the BARCELONA D'A FILM FESTIVAL is one of the most interesting and attractive cultural events in Barcelona, and boasts one of the city’s most enthusiastic and diverse audiences. The Festival offers an extensive review of current world cinema, screening an international panorama of the finest contemporary auteur cinema, combining the discovery of emerging new talents and cinematographies with internationally established directors and films.

The 8th D'A Film Festival will run from April 26th to May 6st, 2018.

TALENTS AWARD: 6,000€ cash award, to be allocated to the director of the best film of the TALENTS section.
CRITICS AWARD: Non-cash award granted by the Catalan Critics Association from a selection of films by new directors.
AUDIENCE AWARD: Non-cash award from the audience votes from among the films screened in all sections, except the retrospective.

Each spring, the BARCELONA D’A FILM FESTIVAL offers an extensive review of current world cinema, screening an international panorama of the finest contemporary auteur cinema, combining the discovery of emerging new talents and cinematographies with internationally established directors and films.

The 8th D’A Film Festival will run from April 26th to May 6st, 2018.

1. SECTIONS
Structured into different sections, the Festival will screen around 80 feature films.
The main sections of the festival are:

TALENTS: Competitive section that presents films from emerging new directors, with up to 2 feature films in their filmography.

DIRECTIONS: Contemporary Cinematography wouldn’t be understood without the most renowned auteurs usually present in world film festivals, this section celebrates them.

TRANSITIONS: The D’A Film Festival can’t miss one of the best auteur’s movies presented in international festivals that have captivated critics and film lovers all around the world. Transicions is a section of some of the most striking films of the year.

UN IMPULSO COLECTIVO: A showcase of latest Spanish cinema, with productions made in the margins of the industry and mainly produced independently.

RETROSPECTIVES and SPECIAL SECTIONS

2. AWARDS
2.1. TALENTS AWARD: 6,000€ cash award, to be allocated to the director of the best film of the TALENTS section.
2.2. CRITICS AWARD: Non-cash award granted by the Catalan Critics Association from a selection of films by new directors.
2.3. AUDIENCE AWARD: Non-cash award from the audience votes from among the films screened in all sections, except the retrospective.

3. PAYMENT OF THE CASH PRIZE
Withholding taxes and other expenses that may be incurred upon delivery of the prize money will be deducted from them, so that the final amount will vary depending on the conditions set out by each country and how the payment is made.

4. SUBMISSION AND DEADLINE
Feature films may be submitted online at the platform www.festhome.com. The submission fee is 15€ (including taxes). DVDs will not be accepted.

The deadline to submit a film is January 15, 2018.

5. FILM SELECTION
‒ Entries are open to features and documentaries with a minimum length of 60 minutes.
‒ The films must have been produced after January 1st, 2017.
‒ The films participating in the TALENTS, DIRECTIONS and TRANSITIONS section must be at least Catalan premiere.
‒ In any case, all films selected (except the Special Sessions and the Retrospective) can’t be exhibited on VOD in Spain before the festival.
‒ The festival will contact the selected participants no later than February 20th, 2018.
‒ The festival management reserves the right to excepcionally program films that do not meet these requirements.

6. FILMS PARTICIPATING IN THE FESTIVAL
Once a film is selected and has accepted to partipate in the Festival, it cannot be withdrawn from the program.

The representatives of the films must send all the materials required for publication in the Festival information and promotion tools: technical and artistic credits, hi-resolution pictures of the film and the director and trailer in a digital file.

Films will be screened in professional format. Under no circumstances will films in DVD format be accepted and only Blu-Ray will be accepted if it's the only print available. Pro-res or similar files won’t either be accepted as screening format.

All selected films will be screened in their original version with Catalan or Spanish subtitles. If a film does not include Spanish or Catalan subtitles, the film representatives will be asked to provide a subtitle list and a DVD or permanent link with the same cut as the screening print, in order to make electronic subtitles.

The Festival will cover the inbound shipment of the print and will be responsible for the customs clearance in Spain when needed. The Festival will cover the outbound shipping unless the print is shared with another festival. In this case, the next festival screening the film will cover this shipment.

In case of damage to or loss of a film during the Festival, the Festival's management is only responsible for the costs involved in making a new print or replacing the damaged reel(s), based on the current laboratory rates for ordering a standard print.

The Festival will recognize the signatory of the application form as contact for the negotiation of all aspects related to the participation of the film in the festival, and as the only person responsible ahead of any companies or persons who may have taken part in the production of the film. In case of disagreements concerning the interpretation of these regulations, the Spanish text will be applied.
