Catacumba Film Festival

Deadline: 03 Sep 2019

Call for entries!

CATACUMBA UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL is a cultural, handcrafted and resistant project that since the year 2000 is developed in the Valencian municipality of Godella and that uses as a backbone the projection of recent audiovisual works that coexist during the celebration of this peculiar festival. In its 17th edition, the festival aims to collect independent film proposals that offer an alternative perspective created from the transversality that filmic language allows. Works that in some way subvert morality, dismantle repressions, our philias and phobias and that evidence the structural defects of the society in which we live. On the margins of the entertainment industry we will find proposals that can lead us towards different models of expression that allow the narrative cinema to return to the expressive category that it seeks to invite reflection. Possibly if it is strange is because it remains hidden from perception and the senses. We understand that the cinematographic production is living a creative process that enhances the fusion between genres, stoking the originality and the diversity of the medium, we ascribe to all these possibilities. From CATACUMBA we want to reflect this creative reality, giving space to a greater number of works, sometimes unclassifiable, but which act as reflecting mirrors of the strange reality that we live. In short film and feature length format you will have the possibility to feel all the fears, dreams, philias and phobias that our directors intend to transmit. You will know genres once reviled and undervalued, but that have had transcendental titles in film history and that have become authentic referents of universal filmography. Reflecting cinema of our social reality, cinema that convinces us more every day that reality will always surpass fiction.

Concurso Nacional de Cine Independiente de Cipolletti

Deadline: 30 Aug 2019

Call for entries!

Bogota International Documentary Film Festival

Deadline: 20 Jul 2019

Call for entries!

The Bogota International Documentary Film Festival focuses on the exhibition of contemporary documentary productions. For twenty years we have witnessed and accompanied a surge of the genre in Colombia and throughout Latin America becoming a space favored by filmmakers in the area. We foster the screening of films along an open exchange and debate around the documentary field. MIDBO is organized by the Colombia’s Documentary Filmmakers Guild (ALADOS). The festival seeks to strengthen the debate around films as well as the exchanges amongst directors, producers, scholars, students, critics and professionals engaged in making documentary films, engaging the audience in the discussions. The 21st MIDBO will be held from 29 October to 7 November 2019 in Bogotá (Colombia). We would like to invite filmmakers and producers, both local and foreign to submit their films and meet with other filmmakers using the opportunity for exchange and debate in this international encounter. We welcome all sorts of documentary filmmaking. We will receive any form of documentary expressions such as: auteur films, research and ethnographic films, community and genre audiovisual creations, essay-films, personal or intimate search films, experimental, hybrid and collage films without restrictions or conventions. For the first time, MIDBO opens a specific call for documentary works that make use of interactive and/or immersive technologies. APPROACHE 21st MIDBO To quote the words of the recently deceased filmmaker Jonas Mekas, when he urged new generations to create "less perfect but more free films", in 2019 our film festival aims to give visibility to the creative and production processes that bring up alternatives to the conventions established by the film industry. The 21st MIDBO will have a special focus on documentary production that, in the midst of searching for autonomy and independence, gives particular views on the process of film creation which open up other ways of making films. Special attention will be given to artisanal audiovisual practices, spontaneous, imperfect, always in process, fragmentary, experimental (sketches, film correspondences, notes, diaries, essay films...), which break with traditional forms and highlight the poetic power of documentary filmmaking. Films that, in their fragility, freedom and imperfection, propose singular, and often unknown, views of the realities of the world. With the same aim, the 21st edition of MIDBO has a particular interest in the ways of making hat are emerging from the peripheries: collective and / or community processes, which have also question narratives, aesthetics and audiovisual production models. Last but not least, MIDBO calls for documentary production carried out in all regions of Colombia, including works that result from alternative and / or community production processes, as well as professional works. In particular, we call for documentaries produced in Afro-Colombian territories, as well as international works of Afro filmmakers and themes. These focus areas of the 21 MIDBO do not restrict the participation of all types of works, subject matter, form, format and duration.
