Festival start: 08 March 2019      Festival end: 17 March 2019

With curatorship of Daniela Pimentel, Letícia Souza, Mirela Persichini and Rita Boechat, the 5th Feminist Film Show will be held by the Malva Collective and will take place in the city of Belo Horizonte - MG in the week of March 8, 2019. The curatorship honors the diversity, importance themes and representativeness. The show will feature films directed or co-directed by women.
The Malva Collective believes that cinema translates as a mechanism for the production of meanings and social representation, highlighting how it portrays / reinforces / raises or questions the differences between gender, sexual and ethnic-racial relations. The audiovisual sector as a whole reflects (and) produces phallocentric and misogynist paradigms in different aspects: in the way women historically are portrayed within the cinematographic narrative and in the exclusion and non-acceptance of the occupation of women in positions and in the construction of thought Brazilian audiovisual industry. Thus, this Show seeks to create spaces for the diffusion, integration and preservation of the audiovisual production made by women at the national level.
In its first edition, in 2015, the show exhibited 21 films, produced in three states Brasília, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul. In the second show, 53 films were seen covering about 12 states. In the first and second edition, the proposal occupied the city's public and cultural spaces, taking into account the prerogative of diversity in the places of exhibition. In its last two editions, we signed a partnership with SESC Palladium that added the strength of the public movie theater with the power of the show, bringing more than 1500 people to the room displaying films made by directors from all over the country and internationally. All this process, still under construction, demonstrates how much the audiovisual market for women urges for spaces like this.
It is from the incessant and embative production of the feminine look to return its aesthetic, its dimension, its body, its feminist becoming to the community through audiovisual materials that we have developed, since 2015, the Feminist Cinema Show. We witness the cinema held by women as a means of insurgency against machismo, feminicide, rape culture, harassment and aggression against our bodies, but that is consecrated in the day-to-day confrontation with the machista and totalizing composition of national and global cinema. We are together in the struggle for the visibility and strengthening of black, indigenous, urban and interior cultures, LGBTIQA+, and we assume that woman is every human being who identifies herself as a woman.
