If you know us, you already know.

If you‘re just discovering us, we strive to be that independent fest that loves filmmakers, screening films, and then talking about them in the most convivial of ways. We believe we’re getting better at it. That’s us. That’s Boston SciFi aka Boston Science Fiction Film Festival & Marathon. We love the film culture, we love the possibility of ‘if’, and we’ve been doing it for 46 years. So there’s history.

The legendary Orson Welles Cinemas is where it started. Legendary? Yep, the first manager was some dude named Tommy Lee Jones, and people like Peter Bogdanovich, Neil Young, Errol Morris and many more experienced formative cinematic awareness there. It was a 3-screener, it had a restaurant. There was a film school and more. It burned in 1986, and we are all that survived. Making films, showing them, and celebrating the creators is in. our DNA.

Today we are housed in the vintage, independent Somerville Theatre. That’s in Davis Sq, the front door to Tufts University, and just T stops (Boston’s subway system) to Harvard, MIT, Boston University & Northeastern.

We are an 11-day event with two distinctive parts. "The Fest" and “The Thon”.

The Fest is 9 days of submitted and judged films. Tossed into this will be curated films, some classics, some global discoveries. There are also workshops, panels, and other special events. There a number of events/parties for filmmakers including weekend brunches and evening parties. They are convivial networking opportunities with fellow filmmakers and the industry.

The closing event is part two of Boston SciFi. It is “The Marathon”, aka The Thon. Where the greats, the not-so-greats, the not-even-close-to-great screen in a 13 film, 24 hour roller coaster of cinema and community. Some will even be in 35mm, and we’re always looking for a 70mm, too. Think of it binge viewing with 700 of your best friends, even if you just met. Since we’ve been doing this for 46 years, we consider ourselves the “Original Binge View.”

That’s the layout. When it comes to asking yourself to submit, you probably have questions. Hopefully you can find the answers here. One question often asked is how do we define science fiction. If Rod Serling play it on the original TWILIGHT ZONE, then who are we to argue? Whether it shorts, features, documentaries, animation, webisodes, whatever, we'll screen it. In our world, good scripts are more important than an explosion. Although a well-done nicely timed explosion is fun.

The organizers of BostonSciFi are industry professionals with decades of experience. One of the biggest reasons to enter your film is to get exposure to audiences AND the industry. It is this latter piece where our experience helps. We invite our friends to come, and we recommend BostonSciFi films to those we know.

So welcome to SF46, the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival, the oldest, and perhaps the coolest, SciFi festival in the US with a passion for film that comes age.

It's about exploring new worlds.

Szczecin Film Festival is a film event, a forum for meetings and cooperation in the field of film, directly on the Polish-German borderland. The festival is organized by the Polish OFFicyna Association, located at 3-4 Lenartowicza Street in Szczecin (71-445), Poland. The festival program is carried out in partnership with a Polish-German network of organizers, and presented in Szczecin/Poland.

The main goal of the European Competition for documentary films at Szczecin Film Festival '20 is to seek out films that broaden the concept of documentary cinema and break its stereotypical image. Each year, the competition presents several dozen carefully selected titles. The chosen documentary films are a cross-section of works that stand out against the background of tired formulae and seemingly played-out topics. Creators known by few and film veterans alike will have a chance to confront their productions with the opinions of the jury and the festival audience. Thanks to the availability of technology and the ease with which people can communicate globally, we can enjoy an innovative and exciting cinema that abolishes our prior perception of a documentary film and broadens our horizons.

The films presented at the festival are selected by a Polish-German Selection Team. Its members search for productions that cross the formal boundaries and exhibit an unconventional approach to reality – productions that are documentary trailblazers. Premieres are considered especially significant. Awards are given by an international jury, which is assembled by the organizers. Apart from film screenings, a relevant and characteristic part of the European Competition are discussions with the presented films' creators.

Feature film festival

The JachtFilm Maritime Film Festival continues a long standing tradition from the 1980s. Between 1982 and 1990 the city of Katowice in southern Poland hosted a series of film screenings with national and international maritime and yachting films.

After a long break, caused by political and economical turmoil in Poland and Eastern Europe, the festival was revived. In 2011 Warsaws Kino Wisła was the place to be for all film-loving sailors and mariners – that’s where the current Maritime Film Festival was born.

During the two days of the 2011 edition, over a dozen films and documentaries about Polish and international sailing were screened. Most footage came from the archives of the Polish national television and private directors and producers.

As if those gems were not enough, the audience was able to enjoy stories from our esteemed hosts – captain Janusz Zbierajewski and journalist Andrzej Radomiński.
Their extensive knowledge and seemingly endless humor created a unique atmosphere, enchanting and entertaining the audience.

The following editions brought more big “chunks” of Polish and international maritime cinema to Warsaw. Our audience appreciates the efforts to bring true and exceptional sailing stories to the big screen. We try to screen films not only documenting voyages but also telling a story.

We proud ourselves on the loyalty of our audience. It consists mainly of sailors and sailing enthusiasts, many of which also have interesting sailing stories to tell. Some of them are active sport sailors, but most are recreational mariners.

Our goal was to prepare a balanced mix to suit all our visitors. Sailing has many faces, all of which are worth documenting, especially if there is a captivating human story to tell though sometimes the story of a vessel can be equally breathtaking.
We are also happy to welcome many special guests at each edition, many of which are the protagonists of the shown films.

Since 2013 there has been a very popular addition to the festival – we’re screening submitted short films about sailing and the sea under the motto “Reel me in”.

On December 2020 in Warsaw will host the 9th Maritime Film Festival.

The JachtFilm Maritime Film Festival takes place under the auspice of the Polish Yachting Association.

Supporting our vision of putting learning through films at the heart of children and young people lives, MICFF will be one of the largest International Children’s Film Festival expected to reach more than 20,000 children and young people in its first season between the months of October and November 2020 dedicated to children ages 3 to 16 years.

Markhor International Children’s Film Festival prioritizes to create a cinematic extravaganza that celebrates the finest and the brightest in international films for children that includes but are not limited to feature films, short films, documentary films, films made by children and young people.

We strongly believe that the films children engage in provide them with imaginative spaces in which they create, play and perform familiar and unfamiliar, fantasy and everyday narratives and this narrative play is closely connected to identity, literacy and textual practices. We live in a world that is surrounded by audio-visual content. Watching some of the brightest and imaginative films enable children to learn basic literacy today. MICFF aims to expose children to films in order for them to learn about different cultures, languages, challenges and their solutions. This festival provides children with a joyous and dynamic setting that inspires younger generations at a grass-root level to participate as agents of change at national and global platforms.

The Vegas CineFest and Awards is an International Film Festival founded in 2008.

We felt there was a lack of effective contests and awards being offered for short and indie projects that could advance the careers of new writers and filmmakers.

We began discussing the idea of launching such a festival and were soon joined by industry veterans whose contributions made the concept a reality and The International Vegas Cine Fest Awards was born. Vegas Cine Fest is an IMDB Qualifying Festival.

A non profit organization, it is one of the few film festival contests providing writers and filmmakers with the assistance needed to produce and expose their projects and then continue on to other major film festivals around the world.

By becoming a part of the International Vegas Cine Fest Awards you will be joining a growing number of professionals in the entertainment industry who are recognized for supporting other artists and have the excitement of participating in a Film Festival that is destined to become a springboard for many of tomorrow’s top filmmakers.
