The Mix Brasil Festival is an annual cultural event with a focus on films related to sexuality in its various forms of expression.
In 2017, an estimated audience of 48,000 people attended the screenings, parties, theatre and music performances, conference and debates promoted in the festival's 25th annual edition.
Mix Brasil is held in November at prestigious movie theaters across Sao Paulo and takes full advantage of the diversity of the city to host a variety of innovative events. After Sao Paulo, Mix Brasil tours abridged programs to other Brazilian cities.
The event is carried out by the Mix Brasil Cultural Association, a non-profit organization which seeks to promote the freedom of expression of sexual diversity by looking at new and different ways that this is achieved.

Sesc TV award for the best short film of the competition by a jury chosen by Sesc. A prize of R $ 5,000.00 (five thousand reais) and two-year exhibition contract on the channel.

ORGANIZATION
The festival is organized by the Associacao Cultural Mix Brasil (Mix Brasil Cultural Association).
LOCATIONS AND DATES
The 26th Mix Brasil Festival of Diversity will take place in the city of Sao Paulo from the 15th to the 25th of November, 2018, with a tour of an abridged version of the festival to other cities in Brazil. All short films must be available for the tour, but the participation of features (fiction and documentary) will be subjected to the approval of the producers/distributors. If you do not wish to participate in the tour and/or wish your copy be returned immediately after the screenings in Sao Paulo, you should notify the festival management by September,29th by email.
SELECTION

PROGRAMMING
Programming is the prerogative of the festival. The selected films can enter in any section of the festival, with the exception of films that are pre-selected by invited curators.
BRAZILIAN SHORT FILM COMPETITION
Brazilian short films up to 25 minutes long are eligible for the Brazilian Competition Program. While a premiere is not required, it will be a plus during the selection process.
SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
Only online submissions will be accepted for preview screening. We are not responsible for any material sent by mail.
Rough cuts and works-in-progress are eligible for submission if selected, an exhibition print needs to be available by October 15, 2017.
Please indicate on the submission form that the film is "Rough Cut" and specify what is missing.
FILMS ARCHIVE
The DVD copies sent for entry will not be returned, becoming a part of the video archive of the Associacao Cultural Mix Brasil, There will be no public screenings for any purposes of the videos in the archive.
GONG'S SHOW
If your film is not selected for the festival's regular program but you wish to participate in the Gong Show, you should advise the festival organizers upon receipt of the notification.
SELECTED FILMS
The final list of selected films will be announced by October 10th.
Exhibition copies (in the same format that was indicated on the entry form) should be sent by October 30, 2017, to the following address :

If the exhibition copy of your film is on 16mm/35mm please ask for special instruction before sending the print.
To avoid problems with Brazilian customs please follow the shipping instructions given by the festival management.
If your copy is not available by the above date, you should contact the Festival Mix Brasil by the end of September, arrange the copy's arrival on the scheduled date, and provide contact information for the person or organization responsible for the copy being sent.
Festival Mix Brasil only covers the freight for the return of copies to their origin or to another festival, unless another arrangement has been previously agreed upon with the festival organizers.
PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL
It is not necessary to send pictures of your film at the time of submission, but it is obligatory for all selected films. Pictures sent by email should be TIFF or JPEG format and high resolution (at least 300 dpi).
Films selected for the International Panorama and Mostra Competitiva Brasil should be accompanied by a photo of the director and filmography.
You are also encouraged to enclose a synopsis, production credits and press information regarding your film or video.
Press materials should arrive at the festival no later than October 15th, 2018.
SUBTITLES
All selected films must send, no later than October, 15th, a list (in .doc format) of dialogues in English, French, Spanish, or Portuguese.
Screening copies of films that are in Portuguese or English don´t need to be subtitled in English (or any other language), provided that the cut of the film in the preview copy is exactly the same as in the screening copy.
All foreign films will be screened with electronic subtitles in Portuguese. The festival does not make transcriptions from screeners, therefore, a dialogue list is mandatory.
The festival does not provide electronic subtitling for the Brazilian Competition Program which will be evaluated by an international jury. Therefore, the exhibition copies of the films selected for the Brazilian Competition program must have English subtitles.
ATTENDING THE FESTIVAL
The festival takes care of the transportation of all guests from and to the São Paulo's airport, provided they arrive and leave between November 15th till 25th.
VERY IMPORTANT: Participants are responsible for Brazilian entry visas, which in some cases must be arranged several weeks before arrival. The festival will send an invitation letter if it is needed.
