IndiFest is festival organized by alterNativa in collaboration with CLACPI (Coordinadora Latinoamericana de Cine y Comunicación de los Pueblos Indígenas), with the aim of giving its own voice to the indigenous peoples and to demand the fulfillment of their Rights.
The Festival’s main objective is to promote the Identity and the Rights of the indigenous peoples through audiovisual tools. The festival includes screenings at physical venues as well as an online week event. IndiFest is complemented with other activities such as political incidence and conversations with indigenous leaders.
A commitment that enhances the decentralization of cultural habits as well as the communication of indigenous peoples concerning their Rights and intercultural relations.
JURY AWARD
The Festival Organization will invite an international Jury that includes four professionals with experience in the audiovisual media and/or Indigenous Peoples. The prize consists of:
- Laurel and IndiFest Award Certificate
- Communication campaign of the awarded films
- Screenings in travelling IndiFest events
- Cash price of 500€ for a work in progress or upcoming indigenous film production.
SPECIAL MENTION OF THE JURY
The Jury may grant special recognition for outstanding production.

AUDIENCE AWARD
Through an online voting system, the public will recognize the production of the festival that interests them the most. The prize for the most voted film is:
- Laurel and IndiFest Award Certificate
- Communication campaign of the awarded films
- Screenings in travelling IndiFest events
The participation is open to films and productions that have been produced with the direct participation of indigenous organizations or communities and that promote indigenous and Afro-descendant authorship.
- Productions oriented to promote the indigenous Identity whose theme addresses the culture, history, traditions and own narratives; as well as works that promote the Rights of Indigenous Peoples whose theme addresses the violation of human rights, organizational processes, processes of resistance and national and international political incidence or the articulation of movements and organizations of the Indigenous communities.
- Productions that focus on the processes of communication and defence of the rights of indigenous women will be considered with special attention.
- Works carried out from January 2020. Those works that have already been selected in any of the previous editions of the IndiFest will not be accepted.
- The same person, producer or organization can inscribe more than one film.
- The productions can be of any audiovisual genre: fiction, documentary, report, animation, video clip, experimental, TV shows or series, or any combination thereof.
- Films can be of any duration, opting for the category of short film (0-30 minutes), medium-length film (30-60 minutes) or feature film (more than 60 minutes).
- Films in any language are accepted and works that use native indigenous languages are favored. Any work whose language is different from Spanish, must have Spanish subtitles.
- Films that promote racism or discrimination of any kind, that denigrate or discriminate against women or justify gender violence, as well as those works that promote a political party or religious group will not be accepted; nor those that promote specific institutions or groups for profit or propaganda.
