San Giovanni International Film Festival is hosted by Chez Thésse, Rosaspina, and Artefix, cultural associations all operating in the independent film industry, in synergy with the Teatro San Giovanni Battista in Genoa. These three organizations are joined by other associations, bodies and sponsors.


Objectives:

This Festival aims to create a place where Cinema can be a source of interaction between young people. Somewhere they can meet, exchange ideas, and plan together, to increase film culture through interviews open to the public and to professionals in the field and where you can think of a solution to the social problems that plague society. All this by offering and promoting works with relevant artistic content, capable of developing critical awareness and contributing to the cultural growth of the young audience.

Rules & Terms
1. Official Categories

A. Human: International short films on fighting racism
B. Blue Knot: International short films on fighting bullying
C. Red Shoes: International short films on fighting violence against women
D. Rainbow: International short films on fighting homophobia
E. Food: International short films on fighting eating disorders
F. Art: International free-theme short films (comedy, adventure, thriller, sci-fi, romantic)
G. Cartoon: International animated short films, free theme
H. World Cartoon: International animated short films on themes A–E
I. Open Cinema: International short films and documentaries by directors aged 19 and over
J. Documentaries: International documentaries on themes A–E
K. School Together: International short films and documentaries on social issues and free theme (out of competition)
L. Long Cinema: International feature films and documentaries

Short films and documentaries must have a maximum duration of 30 minutes, including credits. Feature films and documentaries in Long Cinema must have a minimum duration of 60 minutes, including credits. Accepted formats: MP4, AVI, MPEG (via WeTransfer after selection) or DVD.

Films in categories A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and J may include works created by middle and high school students, in collaboration with teachers and film professionals.

2. Selection of Works

Each director/production/distribution may submit a maximum of two projects. Submitting more than two results in automatic disqualification.

The Festival will take place in Genoa from 16 to 20 September 2026. Eligible works must have been produced in 2024 or 2025. Deadline for submission via Festhome: 21 April 2026.

Selected participants will be notified by 21 July 2026 and must provide required materials (subtitled film, director bio, photos, poster, trailer, etc.).

All works must include English and Italian subtitles.

3. Costs

€20 entry fee for short films and short documentaries

€35 entry fee for feature films and documentaries (Long Cinema)

Shipping costs for physical copies are borne by participants.

4. Hospitality

Hospitality (food and accommodation) will be provided to directors in competition from the day before the screening to the award ceremony. Productions may also support the attendance of the main actor, who will be offered hospitality.

5. Final Provisions

Participation implies acceptance of these rules. The Festival Director reserves the right to resolve any cases not covered herein. In case of dispute, the Italian version of the regulations shall prevail. The Court of Genoa has jurisdiction.




  Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
