1. Brain Film Fest

The Brain Film Fest (BFF) is an international film festival dedicated to highlighting and promoting the creation and dissemination of feature films and short films about any aspect of the brain, from its amazing abilities and conditions to its pathologies. The BFF is jointly organized by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and Minimal Films. In addition to being a film competition, the BFF will also organize throughout the festival other in-person and online social, cultural and/or scientific events that focus on the brain.

The 9th edition of the Brain Film Fest will be held from March 11 to 15, 2026.

Cash Prizes: 4,500€

The 16th Premi Solé Tura Awards present the following prizes:

Best Feature Film, endowed with a festival trophy and the amount of €3.000*.

Best Short Film, endowed with a festival trophy and the amount of €1,500*.

Audience Award: This prize is presented to one of the short films and one of the feature films selected from the official section, and it is voted in person by the audience in the theater at the end of the screening. The Audience Prize is endowed with a Brain Film Fest trophy.

None of the prizes can be declared void.
*The monetary prize amounts are subject to the deductions of current personal income tax egulations and/or international tax regulations and will only be paid to the prize winners (directors/producers and/or distributors as internally decided by the awarded team), and in no case to third parties.

2. Brain Film Fest competition call:

For the 16th Premi Solé Tura awards, which comprise:

A jury awarded prize for best Competition Feature Film.

A prize for feature films as voted by the audience in the theater.

A jury awarded prize in the Category of Short Films.

A prize for short films as voted by the audience in the theater

3. Entry fee
The entry fees for submitting and registering short films and feature films are as follows:

Short films: free of charge
Feature films: 10 euros

4. Requirements to participate in the XVI SOLÉ TURA awards film competition for feature films and short films

The subject matter of the feature films and short films must address any aspect of the brain, from its abilities and diverse conditions to its pathologies or consequences of these in contemporary society.

The works must display creativity, innovation, scientific rigor and/or a strong storyline. All types of film genres are accepted.

Works completed on or after October 30, 2025 will be accepted for consideration, except for works that were presented in previous editions of the festival.

The main criteria for selection will be the theme related to the brain, cinematic quality, and audience appeal. Preference will be given to works that have not been commercially released in Barcelona.

Only works of more than 50 minutes in length, not including credits, will be considered.

Films submitted must be subtitled in english if the original language is not Spanish, Catalan or english. subtitles may be embedded or in SRT format.

For the Short Films Competition
The duration of films must not exceed 20 minutes, not including credits.

The short films submitted must be subtitled in Spanish if the original language is not Spanish or Catalan. subtitles may be embedded or in SRT format.

The person submitting the work therefore accepts these terms and conditions, and declares that the submitted works are original and not subject to any contracts, transfers, or licences to third parties regarding copyright, intellectual property, or other rights, except those belonging to the author.

The person submitting the audiovisual works is responsible for holding all necessary rights to the materials used in their works for exhibition at festivals, on social media, and online.

All feature films and short films longer than 6 minutes that are selected must provide a trailer of no more than two minutes.


5. Submitting works

Both feature films and short films may be submitted through www.festhome.com by following the requested criteria. In the event of submitting on this digital platform, the rules and regulations herein will be automatically accepted at the time of submission.

By accepting the rules and regulations of the XVI Premi Solé Tura awards, the person submitting the audiovisual work exempts BFF from any legal, criminal or commercial liability with regard to copyright, which is assumed to belong to the individual submitting the work to the competition.

6. Competition call dates

The call for entries for the XVI Premi Solé Tura awards for Feature Films and Short Films opens on Monday, July 7, 2025. The deadline for the reception of entries will be Thursday, October 30th, 2025, at 23:59.

7. Selection committee and jury of the 16th Premi Solé Tura awards

A selection committee will choose the finalists at the end of the call for entries.

The jury will comprise people from the scientific field as well as film production professionals, as convened by the Brain Film Fest organization.

The jury’s decision will be final.

Participants in the competition will renounce any challenge or actions contrary to these rules and regulations, the jury’s decision for the Premi Solé Tura awards and the voting results for the Audience Prize.

The presentation of prizes will be performed in person or through a nominated representative of the prizewinner. The prizes will not be presented to the winners if they are unjustifiably absent from the ceremony and have not sent any representatives. In this event, the amounts will be added to the following year’s prize money.

This rule does not apply to the Audience Prize, as it does not involve a cash prize.

The prizes will be announced publicly in the awards Ceremony, through general media channels, as well as through the communication channels of the Brain Film Fest, Pasqual Maragall Foundation and Minimal Films.

For this purpose, all prizewinners give their consent to the use of their name and image (both in photography and video) for their dissemination (including promotional campaigns, events and material through) any communication channel, free of charge, non-exclusively, nationally and internationally.

8. Award

9. Programming and dissemination of Feature Films and Short Films at Brain Film Fest

The feature films and short films selected for the Brain Film Fest 2026 - 16th Premi Solé Tura awards will be screened up to 2 times at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) throughout the course of the festival, or other locations where the festival is held.

Additionally, the Brain Film Fest 2026’s short film programming will also be available on the FILMIN streaming platform for two weeks from the beginning of the festival. The short films will be uploaded, geolocalized in Spain, and protected against copying.

In the case of short films, acceptance of the prize implies the non-exclusive assignment of the rights to broadcast the works nationally and internationally for a period of one (1) year after the closing ceremony.

This involves the dissemination of the winning work, without any additional compensation for this assignment. After this time, the assignment reverts to the person who submitted the work.

These exploitation rights include the rights of use, dissemination, distribution, exhibition, public communication, disclosure and reproduction, as well as the right to transform the work as required to adapt it to the needs of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and Minimal Films, guaranteeing that said exploitation will at all times respect the rights regulated by Organic Law 1/1982, of May 5, 1982, on the Civil Protection of the Right to Honor, Personal and Family Intimacy and One’s Own Image, both nationally and internationally.

The selected short films and feature films will be incorporated into the Brain Film Fest database, although no dissemination activity will be carried out without the permission of the person who submitted the work.

The producer must state that the work was a prizewinner at the Premi Solé Tura awards in its promotional materials and further distribution and dissemination campaigns of the film.

The Brain Film Fest has laurels available for directors and producers to incorporate into their communication.

Clips and images from the selected feature films and short films may be used for the Brain Film Fest promotional materials and audiovisuals, with or without the original audio.

The legitimacy of data processing is based on the consent given when participating in the Brain Film Fest through the previously mentioned forms and platforms.

The personal data of people submitting works to the Brain Film Fest will only be used for direct contact with the Brain Film Fest and to send official communications from the festival and information of interest from the Pasqual Maragall Foundation if the corresponding box is checked on the registration form.

Your data will not be shared with third parties, except when necessary to fulfil the expressed purpose or legal obligations, and they will be stored for the time strictly necessary for compliance or for the attention or defence of their rights.

The prize-winners may exercise their rights of access, rectification, data erasure, and other rights present in the protection regulations by writing to the following email address: gdpr@fpmaragall.org. You can access the complete privacy policy here. Participants have the right to withdraw their consent at any time and may register a complaint to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (www.aepd.es) if they have not obtained satisfaction in the exercise of their rights.
