The DIVERSIVAS festival seeks to showcase realities that do not exoticize the Latin American LGBTQIA+ community, through the decolonial and intersectional narratives and visions that we will program at the festival.

Furthermore, the festival will promote the recognition of the talent and vision of Latin American LGBTQIA+ creators working within the Catalan cultural circuit to enrich intercultural dialogue, while also showcasing new Latin American cinema focused on sexual dissidence with a counter-narrative perspective on Western norms. Through this, we aim to provide a diverse cultural program for the city, allowing for the representation of dissident identities that often lack visibility.

Finally, the DIVERSIVAS Festival seeks to broaden the perspective of the Catalan LGBTQIA+ community through reflection, dialogue, and cultural exchange. As a festival, we aspire to create a space where different voices, languages, accents, and artistic expressions converge, celebrating cultural diversity as a source of collective wealth.

The jury may grant special mentions.

An Audience Special Mention will be awarded to the best short film of the festival.

PARTICIPATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

I Diversivas Latin American LGBTQIA+ Film Festival

1. About the Festival
The I Diversivas Latin American LGBTQIA+ Film Festival celebrates its first edition in 2026, establishing itself as the evolution of a traveling showcase that has promoted Latin American LGBTQIA+ cinema in Catalonia since 2018.

Diversivas is born as a space for exhibition, encounter, and reflection that seeks to provide visibility to diverse, dissident, and decolonial narratives from Abya Yala, fostering intercultural dialogue between Latin American creators and the Catalan public.

The festival will be held in Barcelona from October 16 to 18, 2026 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Over the course of three days, the festival will feature:

Screenings of short films in competition.

A thematic parallel section focused on the Latin American jungle (Edition: Yakumama).

A talk on independent cinema and critical thinking.

A photography exhibition based on the concept of the festival's first edition.

Call for entries opens: May 24, 2026

Submission deadline: August 16, 2026

Notification of selection: September 20, 2026


3. Eligibility and Requirements

LGBTQIA+-themed short films made by Latin American creators or those with links to Latin America (family ties or co-production) are eligible to participate.

Only short films produced after January 1, 2025, will be accepted.

Works must be submitted in one of the following categories:

Fiction

Documentary

The maximum duration is 30 minutes.

If the original language is not Spanish, the film must include Spanish subtitles.

Each participant may submit one or more short films.


4. Selection Process

A selection committee will evaluate all works received. The organization will communicate the selection results via email. The committee will determine the final exhibition category.


5. Exhibition

Selected short films will be screened during the festival. Those selected must provide a digital copy in Full HD format (.MP4 or .MOV).

Participation implies authorization for the exhibition of the work and the use of fragments (maximum 1 minute) for promotional purposes.

The jury may grant special mentions.
A special mention for the Best Short Film of the Festival will be awarded by the audience.


7. Jury

The jury will be composed of professionals from the audiovisual and cultural fields with expertise in gender dissidence and representing different nationalities. Their decision will be final.


8. Rights and Responsibilities

Participants guarantee that they hold the exhibition rights. The festival is not responsible for legal conflicts arising from the content.


9. Acceptance of Terms

The act of submission implies full acceptance of these terms and conditions. The organization may make modifications if necessary.
