Cortogenia is short film festival held all year along.

Among all the selected films, a jury composed of professionals from the film industry will decide the awarding of the following official prizes:

INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILMS
BEST INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM
AUDIENCE AWARD FOR BEST INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM, awarded by the audience attending the screenings and through online voting via Festhome.

NATIONAL SHORT FILMS
BEST NATIONAL SHORT FILM, awarded by ECAM. The prize will be granted to the production company of the winning short film and will consist of specialized consulting for the script or production of the company’s next project.

AUDIENCE AWARD FOR BEST NATIONAL SHORT FILM, awarded by the audience attending the screenings and through online voting via Festhome.

Cortogenia, International Short Film Festival

PRIZE FOR THE SHORT FILM WITH THE MOST INTERNATIONAL PROJECTION, awarded by FEELSALES, a sales and festival distribution agency. The prize consists of including the short film in the company’s catalog to support its promotion and commercialization.

YOUNG JURY AWARD, awarded by the jury of the Primer Plano Children and Youth Film School.

BEST DIRECTOR AWARD

BEST SCREENPLAY AWARD, awarded by Laserfilm. Includes subtitling services in two languages of choice and the generation of a DCP for the production company’s next project.

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY AWARD

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN AWARD

BEST MALE PERFORMANCE AWARD

BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE AWARD

BEST ORIGINAL MUSIC AWARD

BEST EDITING AWARD

BEST ART DIRECTION AWARD

BEST SOUND AWARD, awarded by Isolé División Sonora. Includes €2,000 in services for location sound, post-production, events, and/or discography services for the production company’s next audiovisual project. The prize may be used until December 31, 2026.

BEST COSTUME DESIGN AWARD

DISTRIBUTION AWARD, awarded by Festhome. Includes an annual pass for registering and submitting the short film to national and international festivals on the platform.

BEST SHORT FILM FROM MADRID AWARD, awarded by AMA. Includes an annual subscription to the Madrid Audiovisual Association (A.M.A). Production companies with registered offices in Madrid are eligible for this award.

The jury’s decisions are final. Joint prizes will not be awarded.

PLACE AND DATE
The XXVII annual festival of international short films, “Cortogenia 2026”, will be held between the months of April and December 2026 at Cines Paz in Madrid, with at least one showing every three months and a closing ceremony in December or january.


CONDITIONS FOR REGISTRATION
• Any producer or filmmaker of any nationality who owns the rights to the films being submitted may participate.

• Cortogenia 2026 will have two categories: NATIONAL SHORT FILMS and INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILMS

• For NATIONAL SHORT FILMS all animated films, documentary or live action fiction films produced after June 30th, 2025 shall be accepted.

• For INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILMS all animated films, documentary or live action fiction films produced after June 30th, 2024 shall be accepted. Submission fee for International section: 2 €.

• The length of the films may not exceed 45 minutes.

• Each filmmaker or producer may submit as many films desired.

• Films that have been submitted to previous Cortogenia festivals shall not be admitted.

• Participants authorize Cortogenia to use film extracts for circulation on any means of communication in order to promote the festival. Likewise, Cortogenia may use photographs of the films and of their directors, in the press and in other means of communication, as well as for the preparation of the festival’satalogue.

Registration will take place via the Festhome website. Any questions should be directed to the email address info@cortogenia.es.

Registration deadlines:
Until 10 September, 2026.
IMPORTANT: If you want to have more options to be selected, submit your short film as soon as possible.


SELECTION
A selection committee made up of industry professionals will be in charge of selecting the films that will take part in Cortogenia from among all those submitted. The festival staff shall decide on the order and the screening date for each film and reserves the right to change the screening date based on the needs of the competition. The decisions of the selection committee are final.


PAYMENT FOR SELECTION
All films selected for Cortogenia 2026 shall receive 100€ in payment. The payment shall be paid after each session in competition and an invoice must be submitted.


AGREEING TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS
By participating in Cortogenia, you agree to all sections in these rules and regulations, as well as any decision made by the organization with regard to any problem not provided for herein.


OBLIGATION FOR PARTICIPATION
The person registering the film declares him or herself to be authorized by the production company to provide a print of the film and agrees to the rules of the competition
