This 2026, the International Film Festival of Iquique (FICIQQ) will celebrate its 16th edition. FICIQQ is a unique film festival in the Tarapacá Region, and this edition is funded by the 2026 Audiovisual Promotion Fund, together with the production of Volcánica Films.

The awards will be announced closer to the event dates.

FICIQQ 16 – INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR ENTRIES

This 2026, the International Film Festival of Iquique (FICIQQ) will celebrate its 16th edition. FICIQQ is a unique film festival in the Tarapacá Region, and this edition is funded by the 2026 Audiovisual Promotion Fund, together with the production of Volcánica Films.

FICIQQ will take place during the first half of 2027, and the festival dates will be announced in December of this year. Its main objective is to promote and disseminate cinema in the Tarapacá Region through a free cultural event with an international scope. The consolidation of venues in Iquique and surrounding areas, together with open-air screenings, reflects our responsibility as cultural managers to expand access to culture in cities and communities with limited access to events of this scale.

For this 16th edition, the festival opens the call for entries for the following competition categories:

* International Feature Film Competition – Cinema of the Extremes
* National Feature Film Competition
* International Short Film Competition
* Northern Great Region Short Film Competition

1. GENERAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The following general conditions apply to participants in all categories of FICIQQ 16:

1. All audiovisual works may participate, whether produced by film professionals, students, or film enthusiasts.

2. Works must comply with the requirements of each competition, detailed respectively in sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4, and participants must complete the registration information described in section 3.

3. Works may not have been made publicly available for online exhibition or have been premiered in the Tarapacá Region.

4. Works that have participated in previous editions of the festival, whether for pre-selection, exhibition, or competition, are not eligible.

5. Works must be submitted for pre-selection according to the procedure described in section 3.

2. COMPETITIONS

2.1 INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM COMPETITION – CINEMA OF THE EXTREMES

1. Audiovisual works completed from January 2026 onward will be accepted, provided they have not been premiered in Chile.

2. Works may be fiction and/or documentary. The fundamental and mandatory requirement is that they address the theme of extremes, whether geographical, political, community-based, and/or social. Preference will be given to works produced in the locations depicted.

3. Feature films must have a minimum running time of 40 (forty) minutes, excluding credits.

4. Works not spoken in Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.

5. Works must meet the minimum technical standards required for exhibition. These requirements will be communicated when the official selection is announced.

2.2 NATIONAL FEATURE FILM COMPETITION

1. Audiovisual works completed from January 2026 onward will be accepted, in fiction and/or documentary format, produced in Chile.

2. Co-productions will be accepted, provided that at least the director and/or the main executive producer is of Chilean nationality and/or resides in Chile.

3. Feature films must have a minimum running time of 40 (forty) minutes, excluding credits.

4. Works not spoken in Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.

5. Works must meet the minimum technical standards required for exhibition. These requirements will be communicated when the official selection is announced.

2.3 INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION

1. Audiovisual works completed from January 2026 onward will be accepted, in fiction and/or documentary format, produced either
in Chile or abroad.

2. Short films must have a maximum running time of 30 (thirty) minutes, including credits.

3. Works not spoken in Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.

4. Works must meet the minimum technical standards required for exhibition. These requirements will be communicated when the official selection is announced.

2.4 NORTHERN GREAT REGION SHORT FILM COMPETITION

1. Audiovisual works completed from January 2025 onward will be accepted, in fiction and/or documentary format, produced in the regions of Tarapacá, Arica and Parinacota, Antofagasta, and Atacama.

2. Short films must have a maximum running time of 30 (thirty) minutes, including credits.

3. Works not spoken in Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.

4. Works must meet the minimum technical standards required for exhibition. These requirements will be communicated when the official selection is announced.

5. In the event that a minimum number of works is not reached for the competition, the festival reserves the right to create a non-competitive showcase featuring the submitted works.

3. SUBMISSION

Reference opening date: September 28, 2026.
Reference closing date: October 28, 2026.

Works will not be accepted after the final closing date announced in the official call for entries.

4. SELECTION

Selected participants will be notified by email during December 2026. The official selection list will be published during December 2026 on the festival's website, official social media channels, and associated media outlets.

4.1 SELECTION CRITERIA

The festival reserves the right to select the works that will participate in the festival. Selection will be carried out by the FICIQQ programming department and qualified professionals in the field.

The following works will not be eligible:

1. Any work directly or indirectly related to a member of the FICIQQ organization.

2. Any work directly related to a sponsor or media partner associated with the festival.

3. Any work that has been exhibited and/or premiered online.

4. Any work that does not comply with the published regulations.


4.2 CONDITIONS FOR SELECTED WORKS

Once the representatives of selected works in the different categories have been contacted, participants shall:

1. Comply with the selected works submission guidelines, which will be sent upon selection to the email address used to submit the work through the Festhome platform.

2. Exhibition copies must be submitted digitally within two weeks of the selection notification, following the instructions provided by the programming team.

3. In the event that the health authorities of the city determine that in-person events cannot be held, or in the event of any other force majeure circumstance, selected works may be programmed online through a digital platform.

5. FESTIVAL JURY

The jury will be composed of individuals with experience in the field of cinema. Separate juries will be established for each competition category. The jury's decisions shall be final and not subject to appeal.

Any jury member who has a direct or indirect relationship with any of the works competing in their category shall be excluded from judging that category. However, they may serve as a jury member in another category, as each committee operates independently.

The jury's decision shall be reached by agreement among its respective members and is not necessarily governed by voting or unanimity, but rather according to the procedure each committee deems appropriate.

This decision shall be final.
