The 3rd International Film Festival on Aging: Glimpses Through Time is a university initiative organized by the Interdisciplinary Center for Aging (CIEn) at the University of the Republic, with support from the Center for Critical Studies in Contemporary Culture (CECRITICC) at the Autonomous University of Querétaro, Mexico. It involves collaboration with various universities in the region and government agencies related to older adults from different countries.

The Festival aims to draw attention to themes related to aging and old age as part of our vital and socio-historical time. We start from a paradigm that considers that the images and representations of older adults—including those in audiovisual productions—affect how we live in relation to aging, how we perceive ourselves as aging individuals, and how we interact with older adults. We believe that the construction of collective spaces to think about aging process can contribute to build non-stigmatized social representations.

We invite you to make or present short films that, through their narratives, characters, and/or language, contribute to exploring, understanding, and/or portraying aspects of aging on individuals, populations, institutions, etc., and/or intergenerational relationships.

The “Ida Prizes” (in honor of the Uruguayan writer Ida Vitale) will be awarded in the closing ceremony.

1.- Only short films completed after January 1, 2022 can participate. The call is open to all audiences, both national and international.

2.- Short films may belong to any of the following categories:

Fiction: Works featuring fictional stories and/or characters.

Documentary/Journalistic: Works representing and interpreting reality on a specific topic from the documentarian’s perspective.

Animation: Works created using 2D, 3D, stop-motion, or mixed animation techniques.

3.- The maximum duration for each work is 20 (twenty) minutes, and recording equipment can range from smartphones to professional cameras.

4.- Films may be made in any format but must be submitted for selection exclusively in digital format. The minimum required resolution is HD (720 x 1280).

5.- If the short film is not in Spanish, it must have Spanish subtitles. Short films that are not in Spanish and do not have subtitles will not be selected. It is desirable that all short films, including Spanish spoken short films, have Spanish subtitles.

6.- Short films must be the original work of the participant or the group they represent.

7.- Registration must be done exclusively through the Festhome platforms:

9.- Short films that do not meet the required technical specifications for projection will not be considered for the Official Selection.

13.- The Jury will be composed of individuals from different countries who are knowledgeable in the art of filmmaking, both through their academic and professional backgrounds, appointed by the Festival organization.

14.- If deemed necessary, the Jury may declare any of the categories void.

15.- The Jury's decision is final and will be announced during the closing ceremony of the Festival in Uruguay on October 2, 2025. Subsequently, the results will be published on the Festival's website and social media.

16.- Short films in official selection will be screened during the Festival days (September 30 to October 2, 2025) at Festival venues in Uruguay and Mexico, as well as online on the Festival's YouTube channel, if there were previous authorization. Part of the official selection may also be screened in other countries that support the initiative as venues. Filmmakers may authorize the Festival organization to make the works available on YouTube for a period extending beyond the Festival.

17.- Amateur short films not selected for the official selection may be chosen for a non-competitive virtual showcase to be exhibited on the Festival's YouTube channel.

18.- Participants declare that they hold the rights to the works submitted to the Festival. They must also have the copyright for the images and/or image rights of any individuals appearing in the video, as well as the soundtracks, if included.
