The cinema festival Fantasmagoria- Festival de Cine Fantástico y de Terror de Medellín - reaches its 6th edition (Curse of the Full Moon – werewolf cinema). Our competition opens to the world and the city of Medellín to explore genre cinema and reflect on these thematic. The festival has several sections of short films and feature films to embrace the fantastic and horror genre spectrum. Also, to consider relevant national and international people who have done significant work to the genre through their filmography.

Short films and feature films will be selected from any nationality, produced in 2023 or 2024 which have yet to be seen in Colombia. The films have to be related to the fantastic genre. They will be exhibited during the festival in Fantasmagoria in October 2024 in Medellín city, Colombia. The film features will compete for the El Cura Sin Cabeza statuette award.

The selected short films will compete in these categories:

- "Jose Mojica Marins" award for the best short film.
- “Narciso Ibañez Menta” Audience Award to best short film.
- “Jairo Pinilla” award to best latinamerican short film.
- "Gritos Animados" award for the best animated short film.

Categories Feature Film Official selection:

- "Carlos Enrique Taboada" award for the best feature film.
- “Tres Moiras” award to the best actress.
- “Tres Moiras” award to best actor.
- “Julio Jiménez” award for best screenplay.
- “Narciso Ibañez Menta” audience award for the best feature film.
- “Jaime Osorio” award for best latinamerican film.
- “Narciso Ibañez Serrador” award for best director.

Short films:

1. Entries must have a realization date not earlier than JANUARY 2023.

2. Only Horror with all sub-genres (for instance: Giallo, Slasher, Home Invasion, Splatter, Gothic, etc.), Thriller, Action, Western, Noir, or Science Fiction genres are allowed.

3. Entries cannot be already submitted to the previous version of Fantasmagoria (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023).

4. Entries must run for 20 minutes or less (without credit titles).

5. Participants should upload the files to the platform with the following preferred formats: mp4, AVI, or MKV. Also, attaching a video link (with the password included when required) is possible.

6. All entries must have SPANISH subtitles if the short film does not use a Spanish-spoken language (it is accepted that short films with spoken languages are different from Spanish).

Exception for preliminary phase: short films spoken in a different language than Spanish or expressed in another language with english subtitles are accepted. However, if the short film is chosen for official selection, the producers MUST send the file with Spanish subtitles. If a selected short film doesn't have Spanish subtitles, the festival will disqualify it.

8. The determination of the judges shall be final.

9. By entering the Competition of Fantasmagoría V, the participant certifies that their short is an original work and that they are the legal owner of the submitted short film.

10. Participants retain the ownership rights to their short films but grant a non-exclusive license to Fantasmagoria and their representatives. These would permit the use of the short films in perpetuity without any compensation for using images in promos, mashups, trailers, and publicity of the festival (website, YouTube, and social networks).

11. Exhibition rights are assigned to Fantasmagoría in an unlimited and non-exclusive manner.

12. Late deadline: July 31, 2024 (The festival reserves the possibility to date changes).

13. Fantasmagoria reserves the possibility to create new categories outside the terms.

14. Fantasmagoría will choose the category, order, and screening date for each short film selected.

15. Participation in the competition implies acceptance of the rules. The festival organization will address any issues related to the festival which are not included in the terms and conditions.

16. Fantasmagoría does not pay exhibition rights for short films in competition.

17. If the filmmakers don’t send the Spanish subtitles requested, the festival reserves its right to unqualify the short film.

18. The selected short films will compete in these categories:

- "Jose Mojica Marins" award for the best short film.
- “Narciso Ibañez Menta” Audience Award to best short film.
- “Jairo Pinilla” award to best latinamerican short film.
- "Gritos Animados" award for the best animated short film.

19. To participate in the competition, the cost of each entry is $ 2.00

Long feature films:

1. Entries must have a realization date not earlier than January 2023.

2. Only Horror with all sub-genres (for instance: Giallo, Slasher, Home Invasion, Splatter, Gothic, etc.), Thriller, Action, Western, Noir, or Science Fiction genres are allowed.

3. Participants will send screeners through the following site: Festhome .

4. Feature length should be between 60 and 110 minutes without credit titles.

5. All entries must have SPANISH subtitles if the film does not use a Spanish-spoken language (it is accepted that films with spoken languages are different from Spanish).

Exception for preliminary phase: films spoken in a different language than Spanish or expressed in another language with english subtitles are accepted. However, if the film is chosen for official selection, the producers MUST send the file with Spanish subtitles. If a selected film doesn't have Spanish subtitles, the festival will disqualify it.

6. Screening of the selected features should be made, preferably in digital format. The festival also accepts Blue-Ray, Digital DCP format, or any digital format for the screenings.

7. The determination of the judges shall be final.

8. By entering the Competition of Fantasmagoría V, the participant certifies that their film is an original work and that they are the legal owner of the submitted film.

9. Participants retain the ownership rights to their films but grant a non-exclusive license to Fantasmagoría and their representatives. These would permit the use of the films in perpetuity without any compensation for using images in promos, mashups, trailers, and publicity of the festival (website, YouTube, and social networks).

10. Participants who selected films for the major competition give the exhibition rights only for screening within the festival.

11. The organization could screen awarded films in later exhibitions to the main Fantasmagoría event. The organization will email the producers and directors of the feature films.

12. Late deadline: July 31, 2024 (The festival reserves the possibility to date changes).

13. Fantasmagoría reserves the possibility to create new categories outside the terms.

14. Fantasmagoría reserves the right to choose the screening date and order of the selected films.

15. Fantasmagoría will contact each of the authors of the selected films to notify them of participation conditions.

16. Participation in the competition implies acceptance of the rules. The festival organization will address any issues related to the exhibition which are not included in the terms and conditions.

17. Fantasmagoría does not pay exhibition rights for films in competitions that participate in the contest. The selected films will conform to the official selection of Feature and Genre Documentary Films, with other movies invited directly.

18. The selected films will compete for these categories and awards:

- “Narciso Ibañez Serrador” award for best director.
Category: Genre Documentary selection:
- "Gótico Tropical" award for best genre documentary film.

19. Some feature films could be classified according to the curator team criteria in special festival sections focused on animation, Asian movies, Colombian films, or weird and experimental.

20. The cost for entry to participate is $4.00.



  Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
