Festival start: 23 October 2023      Festival end: 06 November 2023

-AL BORDE International Transfeminist Film Festival is a platform for exhibition, getting together, and for Artivist, sexual-dissident, communal, and Transfeminist Trans-formation. It was born from the desire and urgency to circulate and provoke narratives and audiovisual pedagogies that create conditions of visibility for existences that surpass the limits of what is possible.

Our purpose is to contribute to make filmmaking a space of rebellion, freedom, healing, meeting, and love, so that we who live in the borders of gender, sexuality, corporal normativity and feminisms can look at and narrate ourselves in our own terms, uniting our diverse fights.

In our first edition in 2021 we decided that the festival would be biannual, hybrid (virtual and presential) and itinerant. This is why in 2023 we are carrying out our second edition named Misbehaved Gazes, where the focus will be on audiovisuals that offend, disturb, scandalize and corrupt the cis-tem. Gazes incarnated in bodies that have violently experimented the regime imposed by the heteropatriarchal, colonial, capitalist, racist, speciesist, binary order, expert in the production of images and cinematographic stories to sustain its hegemony. We are especially interested in underrepresented stories inside of LGBTIQ+, feminist, and communal film spaces.

The proposed categories put an emphasis on aspects relevant to creativity, affection, dissidence, imagination, enjoyment, frontiers, alliances, transformations and corporal overflows. We are looking for productions with a transfeminist perspective that take distance from the victimization, pathologization, and colonization view that has been used to historically represent bodies in films.

1. Dissident corporalities: Disobedience to impositions of gender and identity, defiant of ableism and endosexism, of corporal norms and hegemonic aesthetics.

2. Rooted Identities: Narratives about the intersection between racialized identities and gender and sexual dissidences. Reflections that part from the conservation or preservation of an “originary” identity, recognizing their transformative power for themselves and for an immensely diverse world.

3. Our desire, our revolution: Post-pornographic, trans-erotic, and pan-sexy practices, lesbian, queer, non-heteronormative pleasures, stories of subversive bonds of affection, all of which celebrate corporalities that have been excluded from desire.

4. We are multitude: Transfeminist fights and anti-cis-tem alliances starred by migrant, peripheral, and sexual dissident communities, sex workers, survivors of dictatorship and armed conflict, and human rights and territory defenders, celebrating those who resist collectively and create fair possibilities of existing.

Although the categories are not competitive, there will be special mentions awarded for each one, selected by a jury of people whose vital, affective, and political experience is related to the addressed topics, as well as by communal filmmakers and audiovisual artivists.

We invite films regardless of their year of production, length, genre or audiovisual format, from any territory, that address the topics expressed in the categories of the call for entry. All of this in tune with transfeminist and social justice processes, and the celebration of corporal, ethnic-racial, sexual and gender dissidences.

The works may have been exhibited at physical or virtual theaters, preferably they are not available on streaming platforms. We privilege the selection of films that have taken into account people who embody similar experiences to the ones represented or who are part of the narrated communities as active participants in the process of creation and cinematographic production of the film.

Films can only be sent in virtually through the platform for postulation Festhome or through a Google form, both options being available on our website (you only have to choose one). If you choose the Google form option you must include all the information required, with a streaming link from Vimeo, Dropbox, Drive or Youtube that includes the password for accessing the film. Registration to the festival is free and its deadline is Saturday, April 1, 2023, 23:59:59 (Colombian Time).

The films that don’t comply with the theme or don’t meet any of the conditions here contained won’t be watched, and will be automatically disqualified.

Non-Spanish speaking films must include Spanish subtitles. Festicine Al Borde won’t be in charge of translation nor subtitles for the participating films.

The selection process will be held by the Festival’s curatorial team. The decision will be final.

Sending in a film does not guarantee its selection for the Festival.

The Festival’s team will notify participants by the end of July, 2023, via email, whether their film was selected or not.

If your film is selected you are required to send a copy of it via a download link in H.264 format, .mov, or .mp4 extension, with stereo audio and Spanish subtitles. In addition, the following complementary material is required:

A set of minimum 5 images of the film
A photo of the director and/or team
Download link of the trailer in H.264 format
Poster and promotional artwork
List of credits (complete technical and artistic team)
Spanish Closed Caption for deaf and hearing-impaired viewers. This includes all of the words spoken, the characters who speak, and description of relevant sounds. Send us an email if you have any questions concerning this requirement.

Festicine Al Borde reserves the right to use video and audio extracts no longer than 10% of the total film’s length, as well as images, graphic pieces and texts from the selected films, with the purpose of publicizing them and the Festival. This purpose is exclusively for promotion and with no harm to the films’ author’s rights.

The creators, productors and distributors of the selected films assume commitment to include the logotype and laurels of the Festival in their publicity and press material, in conformity to its brand manual. This material will be shared with the selected films’ teams.

The registration and/or participation in AL BORDE International Transfeminist Film Festival entails acceptance of the present conditions. Once selected, the film cannot be withdrawn from the Festival.

Through the films’ registration Mujeres Al Borde is authorized to exhibit said films in the program of the Festival. The selected films may be used in formative or itinerant activities organized by Mujeres Al Borde, all of them non-profit. The festival commits to communicate in anticipation with the creators about said activities.
