SOCIALMED VALÈNCIA is the first Mediterranean Human Rights Festival, which pays special attention to cinema and artistic creation related to social issues geographically and culturally linked to the Mediterranean Sea. The festival is based in the city of Valencia and will host its main event once a year in spring, although the first edition will be held exceptionally in November 2021.

It is an initiative of the City Council of Valencia and the Mediterranean Citizens’ Assembly Foundation (MCAF) together with MedCités/MedCities, the network that coordinates more than 60 Mediterranean cities on projects of sustainable development, urban strategies or development of services, and of which both entities are members.

GENERAL RULES

1. Only short films shot and produced mainly in Mediterranean countries or countries linked to Mediterranean cultures are eligible to participate in the festival.

a) Mediterranean countries include all countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea: Albania, Algeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Turkey, Tunisia.

b) Countries linked to Mediterranean cultures include Andorra, Jordan, Kosovo, the Kurdistan territories (within Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey), San Marino, Northern Macedonia, Mauritania, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Romania.

c) As a special case, films produced in the territories of Kurdistan must be at least 50% spoken in the Kurdish language.

2. Production date: All productions must have been produced in 2019, 2020 or 2021.

3. languages: The works submitted must be subtitled in english, Spanish or Catalan.

4. Sections: Call for entries is open for the following sections:

- Official Section of Mediterranean Social Short Films.
- Mediterranean Is Woman. Informative Section.
- Med Futurs

5. Submission deadline: October 4, 2021.

6. Submission fee: 'Official Section' and 'Mediterrani És Dona': 6€, until September 6th, 8€ until October 4th. Med Futurs Section, free registration.

7. Works in progress are accepted.

8. The platform for submission will be Festhome.

9. Official Mediterranean Social Short Film Section:

a) The length of the short films must not exceed 30 minutes.
b) Short films must be unreleased in the city of Valencia.
b) Production or distribution companies must send a high resolution copy as well as a dossier of the film, a bio filmography of the director, three high resolution stills of the film, and an .srt subtitle file.
b) The short film selected by the jury will be awarded a prize of 1000€.
c) A series of honorable mentions may be given.
d) During the festival, the short films will be shown on the festival's YouTube channel and, based on the different programs, at the festival's venues.

10. Section 'Mediterranean Is Woman':

a) All short films must not exceed 30 minutes in length.
b) Only short films made by women are eligible to participate.
b) Production or distribution companies must send a high resolution copy as well as a dossier of the film, a bio filmography of the director, three high resolution stills of the film, and an .srt subtitle file.
c) It will be a non-competitive section. The filmmakers will be able to participate in the festival's online debates.
d) During the festival, the short films will be shown on the festival's YouTube channel.

11. Section 'Med Futurs':

a) All short films must not exceed 2 minutes in length.
b) Only films made in academic centers will be eligible to participate.
c) A €500 award will be established by popular vote on the festival's YouTube channel.
d) During the festival, the short films can be seen on the festival's YouTube channel and in person at the Cinestudio D'Or venue in Valencia.
e) They must also be subtitled or send a subtitle file in english, Spanish or Catalan in .srt format.

12. Jury / Selection Committee:

a) The organization of Social Med València Festival will designate the selection committees and juries for each of the sections.
b) In the case of the Med Futurs section, the verdict will be given by online voting as indicated by the festival organization.
c) The votes of both the Selection Committee and the Juries will be final.

13. Eligible films:

a) The individual or legal entity submitting the film states that they own all intellectual property rights of the film exhibited at the festival and the audiovisual material included in it (soundtrack, images of others, etc.). The festival will not be held responsible if this rule is not complied with.
b) Selected films may not be withdrawn by their producers.
The producers/distributors must send their films online through Festhome platform, with a dossier of the work, three stills of the film and a biofilmography of the director with a photo.
c) They must also send a subtitles file in english, Spanish or Catalan in .srt format.

14. Exhibition Rights:

a) The festival will not be held responsible for possible claims arising from breach of copyright by the work.
b) The festival may take a sample of the films submitted to be used in any media solely for the purpose of promotion within the context of the València Social Med Festival (printed program, press, Internet, social networks, trailer, etc.).

15. Terms and Conditions Acceptance:
Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these rules.

SPECIAL CALL FOR MEDCITÉ CITIES


1. The previous calls are also open to cities belonging to the MedCités network, especially the sections 'Mediterranean is Woman' and 'Med Futurs'.

2. Cities belonging to the MedCités network are also invited to submit the following proposals:

a) To participate as festival venues:

- In person: sharing part of the festival program during the month of November 2021.
- online: sharing the festival's online programming during the festival.

b) To participate in the programming of the festival by making proposals that the city considers of special interest to the city. These proposals may be:

- Audiovisual artists or photographers participating in the festival in person or online.
- Contributing works that the city considers of special interest for its diffusion within the festival.

Special attention will be given to proposals that have to do with the Spring 2011 as the theme of the festival and also those that deal with social issues in the Mediterranean area from a gender perspective.
