Festival start: 04 May 2022      Festival end: 04 May 2022

Das Filmfest (formerly Oregon State International Film Festival) presents:

The May the 4th Festival is looking for submissions of any length and type to be screened at our one-day festival taking place on - you guessed right - May 4, 2022. Your film should have some connection to the ideas around "May the Fourth be with you" day. We are not associated with Lucasfilm or Disney.

Depending on the quality, length and number of selected submissions, we will screen films by taking over one auditorium at the Darkside Cinema in Corvallis, Oregon, for one, two or more blocks. Admission to the screenings will be free of charge; the festival will be funded in its entirety by submission fees. For that reason we are not going to provide waivers of any kind. Any surplus from this festival will be donated to our local food bank (the Linn Benton Food Share), along with donations given to us by the festival audience.

If selected, your film will be screened once in front of a live audience, many of them likely dressed up. No red carpet, no fancy websites, no extensive paid promotion, just word of mouth. You do get laurels for your film, you will have a receptive audience, an you will get to see any pictures we take at the event.

In addition, we also offer to host your film on our online platform for 24 hours. This will be an opting in offer, and we can geoblock your film any way you want us to. We will ask for donations on the platform, and any revenue from there will also go towards the Linn Benton Food Share.

Read some reviews of filmmakers participating in our previous festivals here:

The Rey Award - given to the best film with a female lead or by a female director.

The Master Yoda Award - given to the film with the best script.

The Chewbacca Award - given to the hairiest character.

The Sith Award - given to the film with the best twist.

The Darkside Award - given to the film chosen by the people running the Darkside Cinema.

All awards are given as laurels to download. No money, no trophies.

All films need to have a connect to "May the Fourth". If the selection committee does not understand the connection, your film will not be selected. Make it clear to us visually, not by adding an accompanying letter.

If your film promotes racism, sexism, right-wing politics, extremism etc. (you know what we are talking about), we will make fun of it, of you, and gladly donate your money to the hungry people in our communities.

All films need to be in English, have English subtitles upon submission, or be accessible to audiences speaking English.

No waivers. Under any circumstances.

If selected by the jury, you agree to let us screen your film in front of a live audience. In addition, you can opt in to have us host your film online for 24 hours.

Screenings will be free of charge.
