REGULATIONS

Participation in the competition is open to all film production companies from the Iberian Peninsula.

Spanish or Portuguese fiction films, either live action or animation, produced in 2025 or 2026, with a maximum running time of 45 minutes, and which have not previously been screened in any of the towns where the Festival takes place, may be submitted.

Short films whose director was born or resides in Extremadura, or which are produced by companies with registered offices in Extremadura, may enter the Extremaduran Short Film Section and compete for the Reyes Abades Award for Best Extremaduran Short Film. Selection for this section does not exclude participation in the Official Competition, provided the film has not previously been screened in any of the Festival towns.

The submission deadline is 5 May 2026 (inclusive) via the FESTHOME digital platform.

Three photographs of the short film at 300 dpi resolution must be attached.

Upon registration, the entry form must be completed with the film credits and the production company’s contact details.

Once the online submission has been completed, no additional information should be sent by post or email.

A selection committee will choose from all submitted short films those that will compete in the Festival. Its decision is final.

The minimum screening format accepted is Quicktime Full HD 1920x1080, Stereo sound. Selected films must be sent before 8 June 2026 via a file transfer platform.

Selected films will appear in the Festival catalogue and will be screened publicly between 6 and 11 July 2026 at the official venues in Badajoz, Olivenza and San Vicente de Alcántara. If additional venues are added, this will be announced through official channels and a new Audience Award will be created for each new venue.

Best Short Film Award. Trophy and €3,000.

Badajoz Audience Award. Trophy and €1,000.

Olivenza Audience Award. Trophy and €1,000.

If the organisation considers that there are enough films to programme a screening for children aged 8 to 12, they may be shown parallel to the official sections. These films will compete for the Children’s Audience Award and may also be selected for the Official Competition.

The Official Jury will be composed of industry professionals and representatives of the organisation with voice but no vote. The Luis Alcoriza Award will be granted by a Young Jury composed of residents of Extremadura aged between 18 and 30, selected by the organisation.

Each town’s Audience Award will be decided by vote of spectators who certify attendance at all sessions at that venue. If new venues are added, each will have a €1,000 Audience Award.

Jury and audience decisions are final.

Awards may not be declared void nor granted ex aequo.

Prize amounts will be paid to individuals or legal entities subject to the tax withholdings required by applicable legislation at the time of payment. All taxes are included in the prize amount.

In order to receive the prize money, the director must attend the closing ceremony. In duly justified cases, the organisation may accept another credited team member. The Festival will cover accommodation and travel expenses from any point within the Iberian Peninsula.

In case of force majeure preventing the 32nd Iberian Film Festival from being held in person, part or all screenings may take place online via a secure platform. All clauses remain in force except clauses 7 and 15.
