Being a dissident in a square society represents a challenge, and not only that, it allows seeking alternatives to get out of that box. For us, being dissidents has meant fighting against stigma and discrimination, however, that has given us the opportunity to open paths that have been difficult to walk, but in each fall we have found people who help us move forward.

In audiovisual production, as in our lives, being a dissident has meant looking for other ways of telling stories, other ways of bringing them to the screen. Creative ways to talk about sensitive issues, or to sensitize ourselves to reality. In any case, dissident production has been a constant since the constant innovation of technology and, in the context of the pandemic, other ways of telling stories have emerged.

We invite you to join us on this journey and enjoy the dissident production.

Best Dissident Youth Short Film Bases

In the Dissident Experimental Production category, productions made after January 1, 2024 with the theme of human rights or any theme related to equality, equity and social justice will be accepted.

Bases:

- The productions can be in any language, but they must necessarily have subtitles in Spanish.

- They must have a duration between 1 and 30 minutes, with the credits included.

- In this section short films of any genre are accepted.

- Upon being selected by the festival, the producers automatically grant the production rights to appear at the Dissident Festival.

- This section is only for Guatemalan filmmakers.



Bases of Dissident Central American Short Film

In the category of Dissident Central American Short Film, productions made after January 1, 2023 with the theme of human rights or any theme related to equality, equity and social justice will be accepted.

Only productions from the following countries participate in this section: El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama and Belize.


Bases:

- The productions can be in any language, but they must necessarily have subtitles in Spanish.

- They must have a duration between 1 and 30 minutes, with the credits included.

- In this section short films of any genre are accepted.

- Upon being selected by the festival, the producers automatically grant the production rights to appear at the Dissident Festival.

- Productions from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama and Belize are accepted.


International Dissident Short Film Bases

In the Dissident Short Film category, productions made after January 1, 2024 with the theme of human rights or any theme related to equality, equity and social justice will be accepted.

Bases:

- The productions can be in any language, but they must necessarily have subtitles in Spanish.

- They must have a duration between 1 to 30 minutes, with the credits included.

- In this section fiction short films and documentaries are accepted.

- Upon being selected by the festival, the producers automatically grant the production rights to appear at the Dissident Festival.

- Productions from all countries are accepted.



Dissident Experimental Short Film Bases

In the Dissident Experimental Production category, productions made after January 1, 2024 with the theme of human rights or any theme related to equality, equity and social justice will be accepted.

Bases:

- The productions can be in any language, but they must necessarily have subtitles in Spanish.

- They must have a duration between 1 and 30 minutes, with the credits included.

- In this section, experimental and animated short films are accepted.

- Upon being selected by the festival, the producers automatically grant the production rights to appear at the Dissident Festival.

- Productions from all countries are accepted.
