MED FUTURS 23 is the first Mediterranean Kids & Youth Human Rights Film Festival involving educational institutions up to university level from all over the Mediterranean and culturally related countries. The festival will be held online and in person during the month of November 2023.

The festival is organized by VSЯ, the Valencian Agency for Human Rights. It is promoted by the Department of Education of the City Council of Valencia and the ACM Foundation, both entities belonging to MedCités / MedCities, the network that coordinates more than 70 municipalities and unions of municipalities throughout the Mediterranean region working on sustainable development projects, strategic urban city plans and the development of urban services.

This call concerns the competitive sections of the festival.

a) The prize will be awarded by popular vote on the festival's YouTube channel and will be 400 € in the case of short films of more than 4 minutes, and 250 € in the case of short films of less than 4 minutes.

b) There will also be two honorary prizes, one for the promotion of human values and the other for the best script of all the works submitted.

GENERAL RULES

1. Only films shot and produced in Mediterranean countries or countries linked to Mediterranean cultures are eligible to participate in the festival.

a) Mediterranean countries are all countries belonging to the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea in the broad sense, including Mauritania at its southern-western end.

b) The following countries are considered countries linked to the Mediterranean for historical, linguistic, or cultural reasons: Portugal, Andorra, San Marino, Romania, Jordan, Mauritania, Western Sahara, and the territories of Kurdistan.

c) As a special case, films produced in the territories of Kurdistan must be at least 50% spoken in the Kurdish language.

2. Production date: All productions must have been produced in 2021, 2022, 2023.

3. languages: The films must be subtitled in english, Spanish, or Catalan.

4. The call for entries is open for the following sections:

MED FUTURS Short film > 4 minutes
MED FUTURS Short film < 4 minutes

The MED FUTURS organization will decide on the selection committees and juries for each section.

The jury will be announced once the selection has been made.

5. Submission deadline: November 2nd, 2023.

6. Submissions: Films must be submitted on the Festhome platform.

7. Participants:

a) Short films must be created by students from educational institutions up to university level (university not included).

b) The prize will be awarded by popular vote on the festival's YouTube channel and will be 400 € in the case of short films of more than 4 minutes, and 250 € in the case of short films of less than 4 minutes.

c) There will also be two honorary prizes, one for the promotion of human values and the other for the best script of all the works submitted.

d) During the festival, the short films will be seen on the festival's YouTube channel and a selection will be screened at the movie theatre Cinestudio D'Or de València.

e) Registration is free

f) The prize will be determined by online voting during the festival and will be presented at the closing ceremony of MED FUTURS.

8. Jury / Selection Committee:

a) The organization of MED FUTURS will establish the selection committees for each section and the juries of the sections.

b) The decisions of both the Selection Committee and the Juries shall be final.

9. Eligible entries:

a) The individual or legal entity making the entry declares that they own all the intellectual property rights of the work exhibited at the festival and of the audiovisual material included in it (soundtrack, images of others. etc). The festival will not be held responsible if this rule is not complied with.

b) Selected films cannot be withdrawn by their producers.

c) The creators must send a copy of the film through the registration platforms along with a dossier with information about the work, its creative team, and three images of the short film. Please send subtitles in english, Spanish, or Catalan in a separate file in .srt format.

d) The festival will not be responsible for the shipping costs of the films.

10. Exhibition Rights:

a) The festival shall not be liable for possible claims arising from copyright infringement by the work.

b) The festival may take a sample of the works submitted for use in any medium solely for the purpose of promotion within the framework of MED FUTURS (printed programme, press, Internet, social networks, trailer, etc.).

11. Acceptance of the rules:

By participating in the Festival, participants accept these terms and conditions.
