Overview

Organized by ONG Acción Intercultural and Liceo Artístico Guillermo Gronemeyer, the 6th Raúl Ruiz School Film Festival invites young creators to participate in its November 2026 edition in Chile. Inspired by the legacy of the acclaimed Chilean filmmaker, this in-person festival celebrates audiovisual experimentation, artistic research, and bold cinematic exploration. Submissions are open to fiction, documentary, animation, video art, dance film, video essays, and hybrid formats.

Categories

Bodies (School Category): Explores the body as presence, memory, emotion, performance, or transformation.

Memory and Territory (School Category): Investigates the relationship between identity, landscape, soundscapes, heritage, and community stories.

Games and Perception (School Category): Dedicated to works playing with optical illusions, non-linear storytelling, and visual/sound poetry.

Philokinetes (Higher Education Category): Open exclusively to 1st and 2nd-year higher education students in film and visual arts. Free theme focusing on formal freedom, poetic exploration, and speculative cinema.

Key Rules & Submission Guidelines

Entry Fee: Free.

Eligibility: Chilean primary and secondary students (Grades 5 to 12) for school categories; 1st and 2nd-year film/arts university students for Philokinetes.

Maximum Runtime: Up to 10 minutes (School categories) / Up to 30 minutes (Philokinetes), including credits.

Production Date: Works completed within the last 2 years. Previously exhibited films are welcome.

Awards: Filmmaking equipment, specialized cinema/art books, professional training scholarships in DaVinci Fusion & Resolve, and Special Jury Mentions.

Awards and Mentions

Each category will award:

1st Prize: Specialized film books

2nd Prize: Smartphone filmmaking kit

3rd Prize: Intensive training in DaVinci Resolve software

Honorable mentions will also be given for originality, language, and aesthetic proposal.

1. CONVOCATORIA
La ONG Acción Intercultural y el Liceo Artístico Guillermo Gronemeyer convocan a estudiantes de todo Chile a participar en la sexta versión del Festival de Cine Escolar Raúl Ruiz, un espacio dedicado a la creación, exhibición y difusión del cine realizado por estudiantes, promoviendo especialmente la experimentación audiovisual, la investigación artística y la exploración del lenguaje cinematográfico.
Inspirado en el legado de Raúl Ruiz, el Festival entiende el cine como una forma de pensar, imaginar e investigar el mundo. Más que representar la realidad, invita a descubrir nuevas maneras de observar, escuchar y transformarla mediante las imágenes y los sonidos.


2. OBJETIVOS
El Festival tiene por finalidad:
Promover el interés por el cine y el lenguaje audiovisual como herramientas de creación artística.

Incentivar la experimentación con la imagen, el sonido, el tiempo y el montaje.

Fortalecer la creación audiovisual escolar como espacio de investigación, imaginación y expresión.

Generar instancias de encuentro entre estudiantes, docentes y realizadores audiovisuales.

Difundir obras que amplíen las formas de representar el mundo desde la mirada de las nuevas generaciones.



3. FECHAS DEL FESTIVAL

El VI Festival de Cine Escolar Raúl Ruiz se realizará durante el mes de noviembre de 2026, en modalidad presencial.

Su programación contempla:

Competencia Oficial de Cortometrajes Escolares.

Competencia Philokinetes.

Muestras Nacionales.

Estreno de la webserie Hablando de Ruiz.

Conversatorios con realizadores, investigadores y docentes.

Talleres y actividades formativas.

Ceremonia de Premiación y Clausura.

Las fechas de apertura de la convocatoria, cierre de postulaciones y publicación de la Selección Oficial serán informadas oportunamente a través de los canales oficiales del Festival.


4. PARTICIPANTES
Podrán participar estudiantes que cursen entre 5° año de Educación Básica y 4° año de Educación Media, pertenecientes a establecimientos educacionales públicos, particulares subvencionados o particulares de cualquier región de Chile.

La categoría Philokinetes estará dirigida exclusivamente a estudiantes de primer y segundo año de Educación Superior, pertenecientes a carreras relacionadas con cine, comunicación audiovisual, animación, artes visuales u otras disciplinas afines.

Cada equipo podrá contar con el acompañamiento de docentes o talleristas, siempre que la autoría creativa corresponda principalmente a las y los estudiantes.


5. CATEGORÍAS EN COMPETENCIA
El Festival entiende el cine como un lenguaje en el que imagen, sonido, tiempo, espacio y percepción poseen igual importancia.

Las categorías constituyen territorios abiertos de creación e investigación. Las obras podrán desarrollarse mediante ficción, documental, animación, ensayo audiovisual, investigación audiovisual, videodanza, videoarte, cine experimental o cualquier formato híbrido.

¿Qué puede hacer un cuerpo en el cine?
Esta categoría invita a investigar el cuerpo como presencia, memoria, emoción o transformación.

1. CALL FOR ENTRIES

Acción Intercultural NGO and Guillermo Gronemeyer School of the Arts invite students from across Chile to participate in the 6th Raúl Ruiz School Film Festival, a space dedicated to the creation, exhibition, and promotion of films made by students, with a special focus on audiovisual experimentation, artistic research, and the exploration of cinematic language.

Inspired by the legacy of Raúl Ruiz, the Festival understands cinema as a way of thinking, imagining, and investigating the world. Rather than simply representing reality, it encourages participants to discover new ways of observing, listening to, and transforming it through images and sound.

2. OBJECTIVES

The Festival aims to:

Promote interest in cinema and audiovisual language as tools for artistic creation.
Encourage experimentation with image, sound, time, and editing.
Strengthen student audiovisual creation as a space for research, imagination, and expression.
Foster encounters between students, teachers, and audiovisual professionals.
Promote works that expand the ways in which the world is represented through the perspectives of new generations.
3. FESTIVAL DATES

The 6th Raúl Ruiz School Film Festival will take place in November 2026 as an in-person event.

The program will include:

Official School Short Film Competition.
Philokinetes Competition.
National Screenings.
Premiere of the web series Talking About Ruiz.
Talks with filmmakers, researchers, and educators.
Workshops and educational activities.
Awards Ceremony and Closing Event.

The opening date for submissions, submission deadline, and Official Selection announcement will be published through the Festival's official communication channels.

4. ELIGIBILITY

Students enrolled between 5th Grade of Primary Education and 12th Grade (final year) of Secondary Education at public, publicly subsidized, or private schools anywhere in Chile are eligible to participate.

The Philokinetes category is exclusively open to first- and second-year higher education students enrolled in programs related to film, audiovisual communication, animation, visual arts, or other related disciplines.

Each team may be accompanied by teachers or workshop instructors, provided that the creative authorship belongs primarily to the students.

5. COMPETITION CATEGORIES

The Festival understands cinema as a language in which image, sound, time, space, and perception are equally important.

The categories are conceived as open territories for artistic creation and research. Films may be created as fiction, documentary, animation, audiovisual essay, audiovisual research, dance film, video art, experimental cinema, or any hybrid format.

BODIES

What can a body do in cinema?

This category invites participants to explore the body as presence, memory, emotion, or transformation.

Works may address diverse bodies, sensory experiences, perceptual processes, performative practices, identities, spectral bodies, or any other cinematic approach that explores the relationship between body and image.

Rather than illustrating these concepts, participants are encouraged to investigate them or use them as a foundation for creating images, sounds, movement, or narrative forms.

MEMORY AND TERRITORY

How does a landscape remember?

This category explores the relationship between territory, memory, and identity.

Films may investigate soundscapes, cultural heritage, architecture, family archives, community stories (myths, legends, folktales), Indigenous cultures, popular culture, the environment, ecology, or any connection between places and the memories they hold.

GAMES AND PERCEPTION

What happens when cinema plays with the viewer?

This category welcomes films that experiment with perception, imagination, and the possibilities of cinematic language through optical illusions, visual and sound poetry, non-linear storytelling, audiovisual puzzles, video games, virtual reality, or any device capable of transforming the viewer's experience.

PHILOKINETES

A category for first- and second-year students enrolled in film and audiovisual-related programs.

The theme is open, with a strong emphasis on cinematic experimentation.

Inspired by the ideas of Raúl Ruiz, this category seeks films that understand cinema as a dreamlike, speculative, fragmented, and poetic territory. Special consideration will be given to formal freedom, audiovisual research, and the development of a distinctive authorial vision.

6. FILM LENGTH
School Categories: Maximum 10 minutes, including credits.
Philokinetes Category: Maximum 30 minutes, including credits.
7. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
Films must have been created primarily by students.
Works completed within the last two years are eligible.
Each team may submit more than one film.
Previously screened or festival-submitted works are eligible.
Accepted formats include documentaries, fiction, animation, dance films, video art, audiovisual essays, audiovisual research, and experimental cinema.
8. SUBMISSION

Submission is free of charge.

Each team must complete the official submission form and provide a screening link hosted on one of the following platforms:

YouTube (Unlisted or Private)
Vimeo
Google Drive (with viewing permissions enabled)

The submission form will be published when the call for entries officially opens.

9. SELECTION AND EVALUATION

Films will be evaluated by a jury composed of invited filmmakers, artists, researchers, and academics.

The main evaluation criteria are:

Originality.
Cinematic experimentation.
Creativity in the use of audiovisual language.
Consistency between form and content.
Artistic quality.
Aesthetic proposal.
Expressive use of image and sound.
10. AWARDS

Each category will present:

First Prize
Film production equipment and accessories.
Collection of specialized books on cinema, art, and poetry.
Advanced training scholarship in DaVinci Fusion and DaVinci Resolve.
Second Prize
Collection of specialized books on cinema, art, and poetry.
Advanced training scholarship in DaVinci Fusion and DaVinci Resolve.
Third Prize
Advanced scholarship in Fusion for digital compositing and visual effects.

The Jury may also grant Special Mentions for cinematic experimentation, audiovisual essay, audiovisual research, directing, cinematography, editing, sound design, aesthetic proposal, or any other outstanding achievement.

11. SCREENING RIGHTS

Filmmakers shall retain full copyright ownership of their works.

By participating, they authorize the Raúl Ruiz School Film Festival to screen the selected films exclusively for educational, cultural, and promotional purposes related to the Festival, while always respecting the authorship of the creators.

12. GENERAL PROVISIONS

Participation in the Festival implies full acceptance of these Rules and Regulations.

Any matter not covered in these Rules shall be resolved by the organizing committee of the Raúl Ruiz School Film Festival.
