MDM FILM FESTIVAL
INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF NEW INDEPENDENT CINEMA

The International Film Festival of New Independent Cinema (FINCI) calls on the Latin American audiovisual industry and other regions of the world to register their audiovisual projects in the first edition of FINCI 1st Edition, which will be held online from July 30 to August 6 2024 in Uruguay.

MDM Film Distribution invites new independent filmmakers to apply for their projects with the aim of having a new exhibition window for their projects and in this way fostering the creative, negotiation and distribution space. MDM gives the opportunity for new projects, new independent filmmakers to be seen and for new audiovisual proposals to circulate within the audiovisual industry.

The festival will have its own exhibition platform where the selected projects can be seen. In addition, there will be special activities and meeting spaces, such as MDM lives, where directors and producers will talk about their projects and careers, and special Audiovisual Talks with professionals from the audiovisual industry where they will talk about the importance of each of the areas of a project. project. Being able to give a complete map of the development, production and distribution of a project.

MDM FILM FESTIVAL has different awards

- MDM Award: Laurel for the best project according to its category.

-Jury Prize

- Lahaye Media Award: Gabriel Lahaye's production company Lahaye media offers the DCP mastering for the Documentary and Female Film category

- Flixxo Award: The selected short films will be exhibited on the Flixxo platform.

- The selected Mexican projects will be interviewed by Estudio Cinema Podcast.

The festival calls opens on January 1, 2024 and closes on May 20 at 11:59 p.m. (Uruguay).
A total of 60 projects will be selected, including Uruguayan and international projects. The projects can be seen through the festival website, only during the festival period.

The selected projects can be seen through the festival page where they will have access only during the festival period. They will be able to buy viewing tickets for the projects that interest them.

All projects will be evaluated by a jury made up of professionals from the audiovisual industry
The results will be announced in June 2024.

Any film that is not originally in Spanish must be duly subtitled in Spanish or English for the selection period. If the film is selected, it must be subtitled into Spanish by the applicant.

Feature Film Category:

Feature films completed between 2023 and 2024 with a minimum duration of 60 minutes will be considered.
A maximum of 10 projects will be selected. 5 Uruguayan feature films and 5 international feature films.
More attention will be given to new filmmakers who are presenting their debut works.
The main objective of the feature film category is to observe what themes need to be shown today. What is urgent that we talk about and see if among all the selected projects there is a common theme.

Fiction short films:

Short films completed between 2023 and 2024 with a minimum duration of 30 minutes will be considered.
A maximum of 10 projects will be selected. 5 Uruguayan feature films and 5 international feature films.
More attention will be given to new filmmakers who are presenting their debut works.

Documentaries:

Documentaries completed between 2023 and 2024 with a minimum duration of 60 minutes will be considered.
A maximum of 10 projects will be selected. 5 Uruguayan feature films and 5 international feature films.
More attention will be given to new filmmakers who are presenting their debut works.
The FINCU documentary category will pay attention to addressing new topics to be discussed, new ways of capturing and understanding reality. What catches your attention to show? As a documentary filmmaker, what do you want to tell? What do you mean? What are you paying attention to today, where is your focus?
The documentary and the public meet. FINCU will pay special attention to those filmmakers for whom cinema is linked to a form of research and knowledge of the world around them. It is about seeing that you not only reflect on reality but also how you reflect on yourselves. FINCU seeks to expand the perception of reality

Pilot chapter:

The main objective is to promote direct contact between Latin American series projects and those from the rest of the world in the development stage with professionals from the audiovisual industry, producers and platforms and other people responsible for the creation of episodic content from all over the world.
A maximum of 10 projects will be selected. Projects must have the bible of their project developed and the pilot chapter of their series. Projects that have the teaser of their project can also participate. The maximum duration of the pilot chapters must be 50 minutes.
The activity will be carried out within the framework of the first edition of the International Festival of New Independent Cinema.

Feminine cinema:

FINCI invites all women filmmakers in the world to participate with their projects in the first edition of the International Festival of New Filmmakers Uruguay, which will be held online during July/August 2024.
The women's cinema category was created to promote the work of female filmmakers and give voice to those things that need to be talked about here and now from the perspective of the female filmmaker.
All finished works of fiction, produced from January 1, 2023 until the application closing date, that is, May 20, 2024, may participate. All films in competition must be directed only by women.

Video clip:

The Video Clip category aims to bring together and promote independent filmmakers to exhibit their video clips and bring together a national and international artistic community, watching the narration of a story through a music video.
​Creativity and innovation will be taken into account both in Uruguay and worldwide.
Video clips completed between 2023 and 2024 with a maximum duration of 10 minutes will be considered.

A maximum of 10 projects will be selected. 5 Uruguayan feature films and 5 international feature films.
More attention will be given to new filmmakers who are presenting their projects for the first time.
