The International Film Festival of Otherness aims to promote audiovisual artistic expression and foster the training of young individuals on the path to professionalism. Our primary focus is to provide a space for education, recognition, and inspiration for creators interested in the cinematic arts.

In collaboration with the University of Guanajuato and the Museum of Art and History of Guanajuato, we aim to bring visibility to the perspectives of young people worldwide and inspire new creators to use their voice in storytelling.

CALLING FOR:
Film production houses, universities, producers, directors, film and communication students, related fields, and the general public to participate in the first national and international short film competition. This call for submissions will be open from February 24 to June 28, 2024.

The call is primarily directed at university students, filmmakers, directors, and visual artists from the Mexican territory, as well as individuals from any part of the country

Awards:
The screening and awards ceremony will take place on September 1 during the FICOT closing ceremony.
If the winner of the national and international Official Selection category, the prize will consist of a digital recognition and a statuette, along with the official laurels of FICOT.
In addition, there will be a surprise prize from our sponsors.

• Best International Short Film
• Best National Short Film
• Official Animation Selection

General participation guidelines:
• Project registration must be done through the registration form on the FilmFreeway platform.
• Registration is entirely free, both at the opening of the call and close to its deadline.
• All short films, in any technique, are eligible, as long as the author holds the rights to the presented work.
• The competing work must have been produced between January 2020 and the closing date of this call. Participation in other festivals, exhibitions, and contests is allowed.
• Registration is open to people of any nationality, whether residing in Mexican territory or not.

The competition registration will be exclusively online, following these specifications:

Works must be submitted electronically via a protected viewing link, including the password in the registration form.
Short films containing dialogues in a language other than Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.
Upon registration, FICOT will confirm the receipt of the material by sending an automated copy of the registration form. The deadline for submitting works is June 28, 2024.

Received works may be selected for exhibition, outside of the competition.

Selection process:
• The choice of winning projects will be the responsibility of a jury composed of specialists with a recognized career in the film industry. Their names will be announced on the FICOT website after the call's closure.
• The official selection of the Festival will be screened at the University of Guanajuato venues and exhibited online on the Festival's website during the Festival days, with an additional week (with the author's authorization).
• The Official Selection will be announced on Monday, August 9, 2024, on the FICOT website and social media, accompanied by an image and technical details of each project.
• The selected individuals will be contacted directly by the Festival organization for material submission details.
• If attending the screening of their short film, directors may participate in question and answer sessions.
• In case of attending the Festival, travel and accommodation expenses must be covered by the participant. They can communicate this through the email ficotredad@gmail.com for advisory and connection with our partners.
• A participation recognition will be sent after the Festival's conclusion.
• Participation in this competition implies the full acceptance of these rules.

The exhibition rights of the resulting short films will belong to the International Film Festival of Otherness. Both FICOT and the production team have the right to exhibit and promote them at any time.

Unforeseen cases will be resolved by FICOT and the call committee
