The Lourinhã Short Surf Film Festival is a unique event that celebrates the fusion between art, culture and the passion for surfing, rooted in the cultural diversity of western Portugal.

This initiative isn't just a film screening, it's a celebration that brings together the surfing community, both local and global, strengthening bonds by sharing stories that transcend the screen and blend with the reality of community surfing.

In a region where rurality intersects harmoniously with beautiful beaches and challenging waves, the Lourinhã Short Surf Festival stands out as a meeting point between surf enthusiasts and the local community, united by a common affection for the sea, culture and art. It is at this intersection that the festival comes to life, offering a unique platform for creative expression and the exchange of experiences that transcend geographical boundaries, reinforcing the surfing community's sense of belonging and identity.

1. FRAMEWORK

2. SCHEDULE

2.1 Date for submitting films to the competition
June 30th, 2024

2.2 Dates for evaluating and selecting films for the competition July 15, 2024

The competition films will be evaluated by three jury members to be appointed.

2.3 Closing date for programming
July 31, 2024 (Films in exhibition and competition).

2.4 DATE of the Surf Short Film Festival
October 17, 18 (screening of the short films in competition) and 19, 2024 (awards ceremony and special screening of the winning short films).

3. REGISTRATION

3.1 Submission
Films in competition will be submitted by June 30, 2024, through the platform https://festhome.com/

3.2 Film Limit
Only three films per director will be accepted.

4. LABELS
Each entry must be marked with:

- Name | full address | contact | tax number (NIF);

- Title | objectives | synopsis | location | duration | format | year of production;

- Section | format | category(ies) for participation.



5. ELIGIBILITY
The films in the competition must meet the following requirements:

- Production date in 2022, 2023 or 2024;

- duration up to 15 minutes;

- Have wave activities as a theme, giving preference to the context of the West;

- Not be in commercial distribution.

6. Languages

The official languages are Portuguese and english.

Entries are accepted in any language as long as the following requirements are met:

- subtitles or voice-over in Portuguese or english;

- Synopsis written in Portuguese or english;

- The film in another language must have subtitles in Portuguese or english.

7. prizes, JURIES AND CATEGORIES

7.1 prizes

- Best Film Award: 600€

- Best Cinematography Award: 300€

- West Award: 300€

- Audience Award: 200€

In addition, the Festival Jury may also award Honorable Mentions in each category.

7.2 Juries
The competition juries are made up of cultural and artistic professionals of recognized national and/or international merit, selected by the Festival organizers.

The juries will be announced in due course on a date to be set by the organization.

8. SUBMISSION, FORMATS AND RIGHTS

8.1 Submission
The completion and submission of all the materials requested for each of the films entered must be certified.

8.2 Formats
Submitted films must be in the following format:
- Full HD (1920×1080 px), 16:9 25fps - H.264 - MP4 format;

8.3 Rights
By submitting a film, the participant guarantees ownership of all the rights inherent in the submission and access to those rights for the duration of the Festival. The submission guarantees that the rights of use held by the authors, copyright owners and other agents involved in the production of the submitted film, with the exception of the rights safeguarded by the companies holding the exhibition rights, have been acquired in a legitimate manner and the organization reserves the right to use them, unhindered by copyright or any other third party rights whatsoever.

9. NOTIFICATION TO WINNERS
Entries to the competition will be evaluated in advance and the winners will be notified in good time. The presence of the winning participants at the Exhibition and awards Ceremony is strongly recommended. The decisions of the jury and the Festival organization are final and not subject to any legal appeal.


10. SELECTED FILMS
Materials should be sent as soon as possible after acceptance of participation in the Festival. In addition, it is necessary to indicate the email contact of the owner of the legal rights of the work, and a subsequent signed document when sending the copy, mentioning the authorization to screen at the Festival.

10.1 Festival catalog
The catalog will include the following information: original title, international title, title in Portuguese, director, duration, country(ies) of production, year of production, premiere status, format, production, producer, distributor, short and long synopsis in Portuguese and english, director's filmography and contact details for the producer and the person responsible for the copy of the film. You will also need to send an image of the film. This image file must be at least 10 cm wide and 300 dpi in resolution, compressed in JPEG - level 8 format.

10.2 Press Kits
Film representatives are asked to send press kits and promotional material for their films for distribution to the press and Festival guests.

10.3 Trailers and Excerpts
After the official selection of the film, the Festival may use excerpts from the film, up to a maximum of 3 minutes, for promotional purposes. If possible, we ask that you send us a link to the trailer or the trailer video file itself.

10.4 Promotional photographs
To promote the entire selection and each of the films, the Festival may use any photograph or digital clip from the film (always less than 3 minutes).

11. RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SURF SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
The organization reserves the right to reclassify films to other categories when deemed appropriate. The Festival declines all responsibility for submissions that are classified in the wrong category or enter the Festival's records after the stipulated deadline.

The Festival's liability is confined to circumstances of intentional or negligent conduct which applies only in the event of loss or damage to a submitted work. The Festival organization accepts no responsibility for the cancellation of the Festival for reasons of force majeure beyond its control.
