The Soul Center of Art & History is partnering with AfriSoul Education Center to celebrate BIPOC women in film for International Women’s Day .

the Soul Center Film Fest was created to:

1. Showcase a diverse array of films that expand our understanding of the world, confront critical social justice issues—like racial equity, immigration, public safety, and environmental justice—and delve into the dynamics of human relationships.

2. Amplify the voices and stories of Black and Brown filmmakers, both emerging and established.

3. Encourage dialogue, collaboration, and action by connecting filmmakers, activists, and audiences.

4. Foster a space for critical reflection and empathy through the art of storytelling.

Awards to be announced

-Films are eligible if BIPOC women are credited in two or more of the following positions, in the making of the film: director, producer, writer, cinematographer, editor, animator, composer/score, camera department (operator or assistant), sound/audio/foley (mixing or sound editing), special/visual effects, gaffer/grip/electric, set design, art direction, or choreographer. At least one principal role must be held by a BIPOC woman. We also encourage BIPOC women wearing multiple hats and small film crews to submit as well. Upon submitting you will be asked to provide the names of the BIPOC women and the positions held on the film’s crew.

-All foreign-language films must be submitted with English subtitles. If we discover a foreign-language submission is missing subtitles, we will attempt to email the submitter for an update.

- By entering your film for consideration to the Soul Center Film Fest you authorize that your work is cleared for festival exhibition and accept full legal responsibility for the intellectual property therein. The submitter and all filmmakers associated with the project shall indemnify and hold harmless the Soul Center Film Festival and any representative or affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss or damage(s).

-By entering your film for consideration you agree that if your film is selected you will provide the following items no later than January 30th: trailer, poster, synopses, log line, three still images from the film, and headshot(s) & bio(s) of the BIPOC women holding positions on the film’s crew.

- Accepted films, their synopses, filmmaker information, and stills may be used in promotional material (website postings, trailers, social media posts, etc).

- Additional showings may be held by The Soul Center to increase outreach. Selected filmmakers will be invited to attend all additional showings.
