Horror, the versatile genre. Widely known yet seldom celebrated. This strife is shared with the screenwriter, the one who brings the groundwork to a movie but is forgotten under the shine of the director and actors.
With the rise and popularity of elevated horror, we also see how the genre widely disregarded as "empty" by detracters has not only been good at it's simplest but excels when it tackles depth.
The Horror Screenplay Awards exists to shine a light on the neglected genre and its passionate torchbearers. To analyze and critique how the skeleton of a horror film shines through. To critique the abject fear a story can provide. And to recognize the brilliance of the pioneers in the new age.
Join today to be awarded for your skill at weaving a narrative and horrifying an audience.
1. Scripts of any length must have been written competently. Horror comedies may be lighter in tone and sillier but there must be a method to the madness.
2. Scripts must be an original piece of work from the writers. Plagiarism will be grounds for disqualification and any detected use of AI to write the scripts will severely diminish the esteem a script is held in.
3. Scripts may portray negative themes but may not be used to denigrate groups. If your script is an incel or a klansman going on a rampage, there better be a well-written and firm way of knowing these actions are not wish fulfillment on the part of the writer.
