MacacuCine is a project aimed at social transformation through audiovisual media. Since 2007, its activities have promoted inclusion through the use of audiovisual tools, particularly focused on youth education. It also aims to build audiences and promote national audiovisual productions. Over its 15-year history, MacacuCine has carried out activities in various cities across the state of Rio de Janeiro, other parts of Brazil, and internationally.
13th Competitive Short Film Showcase – 17th MacacuCine
Submissions are now open for the MacacuCine Competitive Showcase until May 25, 2025. This national and international competition will select and award the best student short films in various categories: School, University, and Micro-Shorts.

XVII MacacuCine
Cachoeiras de Macacu International Film Festival Cinema Regulations II International School Short Films Competition
ORGANIZATION:
1. The seventeenth edition of MacacuCine is organized by Rapsódia Empreendimentos Culturais and Associação Cultural Vale do Macacu. The Festival will take place in person in Cachoeiras de Macacu/RJ (Brazil) and virtually on the website (www.macacucine.com.br), on the YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/MacacuCine) and social networks (@MacacuCine) of the project, between August 15th and 24th, 2025.
CATEGORY:
2. International School Short Films Competition in which films produced in any format and genre, new to this Festival, will compete, with a maximum duration (including the final credits) of 30 minutes, whose directors are primary or secondary school students, duly enrolled, in the period of carrying out the work.
REGISTRATION CONDITIONS:
3. Films already shown in other editions of MacacuCine will not be able to compete in this edition of the Festival.
4. Registration is open between April 5th and May 25th, 2025, will be free and can be done by sending the registration form via the website: www.macacucine.com.br
5. Registration must be accompanied by a document that proves your relationship with the aforementioned school. To do this, the person responsible must send proof at the time of registration, identifying which director the document belongs to.
6. In the online registration process using the form, competitors must send a link for online access to the films and the password for access, when applicable.
7. There are no restrictions on how many films each participant (in the role of direction, production or representative of the production company/collective) can submit. However, only a maximum of three (03) works by this participant will be selected.
SELECTION:
8. The selection of participating films will be made by a committee made up of professionals in the audiovisual field, appointed by the Festival management.
9. The list of selected films will be released on July 22, 2025, via the festival website, social media and by direct communication to those selected via email.
10. There is no appeal against the selection committee's decision.
AWARD:
11. The MacacuCine Festival, through the Special Jury, will award the winning film:
School Category - Special Jury:
. 1st place in the Popular Jury: a single prize worth R$ 2,000.00 (two thousand reais)
12. Payments will be made up to 90 days after the end of the Festival, via bank transfer, upon sending the documentation listed below by the winners:
- Copy of identification document
- International current account details or Paypall
- Signed receipt
12.1. In the case of minors, the documentation requested above will be accepted from those responsible.
JURIS:
13. The Technical Jury is made up of professionals linked to the audiovisual sector appointed by the Festival organization, without any personal interest, direct or indirect, in the films competing for the awards.
14. The Jury's deliberation cannot be appealed and its decision will be announced on the last day of the Festival.
LAURELS:
15. The nominated and awarded films may request the MacacuCine team to use the laurel for promotional purposes in posters, teasers, trailers, film credits or other film presentation materials, by sending an email to
macacucine@gmail.com. The word NOMINATED or WINNER will be added to the laurel provided, depending on the case.
16. It is not permitted to change the original format of the laurel provided, and only its color may be changed, if necessary and with prior approval from the Festival team.
COLLECTION:
17. The films selected for the Competitive Exhibitions will be incorporated into the Festival's collection and may be used strictly for cultural, non-profit purposes and with prior notice to the filmmakers.
18. The films sent will be able to choose whether they want to be included in the CINEduca Portal, a website that brings together international school audiovisual productions, disseminating them to schools and those
interested in the topic.
FINAL CONSIDERATIONS:
19. The person responsible declares, at the time of registration, to be entirely responsible for all rights relating to the registered work, including copyright, soundtrack and rights to use third party images, assuming exclusive legal responsibility for any claim, action legal or litigation arising from the exhibition or use of the films at the MacacuCine Festival, exempting Associação Cultural Vale do Macacu, Rapsódia Empreendimentos Culturais and the Festival organizers from any and all claims or claims from third parties.
20. By registering for the MacacuCine Festival, filmmakers are giving the organization all rights to use the works registered to be curated for the 17th MacacuCine, in sessions that the organization deems convenient and for as long as the edition lasts.
21. The selected films can no longer be removed from the competition, and there will be no appeal and/or request for compensation. Only the Festival Organization may, at any time, remove the film that does not comply with the rules of these Regulations or that falsifies the information provided at the time of registration.
22. By registering for the MacacuCine Festival, filmmakers are granting to the organization all rights to use images, sounds, photos and graphic material relating to the registered work, for the purpose of disseminating them in any means of communication.
23. By submitting a film for selection at this festival, the filmmakers declare that they agree and accept the entire content of these regulations.
24. This regulation comes into force from this date.
