The Rukapillan Film Festival is a Chilean film festival held in Pucón since 2016. Rukapillan, in mapuzugun, means "house (ruka) spirit (pillan)" and is the name given to the volcano that shelters us.
This festival invites Chilean short films to participate in our three sections, to gather at the foot of the Rukapillan and contribute to the promotion of national cinema.

The 7th Rukapillan Film Festival will take place in Pucón from November 26 to 30, 2025, at the Universidad de la Frontera, Pucón Campus.

CALLS FOR ENTRIES:

- National Short Film Competition: invites Chilean short films to participate in our national short film competition, which will be comprised of three juries who will award the best short film and an honorable mention.

- Short Film Showcase on Sports and Nature: invites short films with sports and/or nature themes to participate in this non-competitive section.

- Short Film Showcase on Sexual and Gender Diversity: invites short films with themes related to sexual and gender diversity to participate in this non-competitive section.

- Best National Short Film Award.

- Honorable Mention Award.

1. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Short films that meet the following requirements may participate:

a) National eligibility:
Short films produced or co-produced in Chile.

b) Technical requirements:

Maximum duration: 30 minutes, including credits.

Screening format: H264 or Apple ProRes.

Completed after April 1, 2023.

Accepted genres: fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, or hybrid.

Short films previously submitted to past editions of the Festival are not eligible.

2. SUBMISSION PROCESS

a) Method and deadline:

Submissions open from July 14 to August 31.

Submissions exclusively through the Festhome platform.

3. SELECTION PROCESS

Selected short films will be notified during the month of October by the Festival team.

4. SELECTION AND SCREENING

a) Selection process:
The Festival’s programming team will select the short films based on technical quality, thematic relevance, gender perspective, and territorial pertinence.

b) Screening:

Screenings will be free and open to the general public.

A discussion will follow the screening.

Participants authorize the selected short films to be included in other free screenings across the territory as part of the 7th Rukapillan Film Festival’s traveling program, taking place in December 2025.

Participants authorize the use of images from the short film for the festival’s promotional purposes.

5. FESTIVAL COMMITMENTS

The Festival guarantees the respectful and responsible use of the selected works, which will only be screened in the context of the 7th Rukapillan Film Festival activities.

The Festival commits to providing accommodation for one representative of each selected short film’s production team during the days of the festival.

6. COPYRIGHT

Participants retain all copyright over their works.

By submitting, participants declare they hold all necessary rights for the public screening of the work.

The Festival is not responsible for any copyright disputes.

7. GENERAL TERMS

Acceptance of the rules: Participation implies full acceptance of these guidelines.

Modifications: The Festival reserves the right to modify these rules due to force majeure, and will notify participants in due time.
