AI Film Festival Japan (AIFJ) started as Japan’s first international film festival dedicated to the creative collaboration between human storytellers and artificial intelligence.

Taking place on November 22, 2026, in the heart of Tokyo at Tokyo Innovation Base, AIFJ2026 brings together pioneering filmmakers, technologists, researchers, and audiences from around the world to explore the evolving possibilities of AI-driven cinema.

The festival features a curated selection of long and short films, animations, documentaries, experimental works, and student films that leverage artificial intelligence in their creative process—whether through writing, visual generation, sound design, or thematic exploration.

With screenings, artist talks, panel discussions, accessibility programs, and an awards ceremony, AIFJ2026 is more than a showcase—it’s a global platform where the future of storytelling begins.

We champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, and actively encourage submissions from underrepresented creators, women, and emerging artists from around the world.

Audience Choice Award

Eligibility:

Open to creators of all nationalities, ages, genders, and backgrounds.

Submissions must involve the use of AI in a meaningful part of the creative process, whether in script-writing, image generation, editing, sound, animation, or thematic.

Subtitling or dubbing must be provided for non-english dialogue (english or Japanese subtitles required for non-english films).


Technical Requirements:

Runtime: 1 minute to 30 minutes.

Format: Full HD (minimum 1080p) preferred.

Aspect Ratio: 16:9 standard unless justified artistically.

Accepted file types for screening (if selected): MP4, MOV (H.264 or ProRes).


Submission Rules:

Submit via festhome preferred.

You may submit to multiple categories if applicable.

Submission fees are non-refundable.

Films must be fully completed by the time of submission.

Premiere status is not required, but world premieres and Japan premieres are given special consideration.

Selected works may be used in trailers or promotional materials (excerpts only).

The festival retains the right to disqualify submissions that violate copyright, contain hate speech, or do not meet basic technical or ethical standards.


Selection & Notification

Selected filmmakers will be notified via email by [typically 4–6 weeks before the event].

AIFJ does not guarantee feedback for non-selected entries, though we strive to maintain transparency and respect for all creators.

All jury decisions are final.
