Curta Roteiros - 1st Short Film Screenplay Contest is a cultural contest created with the goal of awarding unpublished scripts for short films written in Portuguese and designed for independent cinema.

The contest is held by Jordana Filmes in partnership with the 1st Curta Cine Sumaré

This contest is not linked to any other company and does not receive sponsorship of any kind, whether public or private money.

PRIZES

Shortlisted - The scripts selected for the shortlist (which will be announced on July 25, 2025) will receive a competition laurel by email.

Honorable Mentions (if applicable) - if the competition jury decides to grant an honorable mention to one or more scripts, the screenwriters of these works will receive a competition laurel, in addition to a Curta Roteiros certificate, both in digital format and by email.

3rd Place - In addition to the laurel and digital certificate, the screenwriter with the work that is placed in this position will receive 30 reais, which will be sent via PIX.

2nd Place - In addition to the laurel and digital certificate, the screenwriter with the work that is placed in this position will receive 50 reais, which will be sent via PIX.

1st Place - In addition to the laurel and digital certificate, the screenwriter whose work is placed in this position will receive 120 reais, which will be sent via PIX.

Note: The cash prize will be awarded until the end of August 2025. The organization recognizes that the amounts are only symbolic, but believes that they will serve as an incentive for the winners to continue producing and carrying out their work.

1. GENERAL DEFINITIONS

1.1. Curta Roteiros - 1st Short Film Script Contest is a cultural contest created with the objective of awarding unpublished scripts for short films written in Portuguese and designed for independent cinema.

1.3. Curta Roteiros - 1st Short Film Script Contest is not linked to any other company and does not receive sponsorship of any nature, whether public or private money.

2. ELIGIBILITY

2.1. The following may participate:
Professionals or amateurs, as long as the script is unpublished (not produced or released as a film).

2.2. The following may NOT participate:
Members of the organization or their immediate family members.
Scripts previously produced or published.
Works written in co-authorship.
Works written in part or in full by Artificial Intelligence programs. Entries created by Artificial Intelligence will be disqualified and will not be entitled to a refund of the registration fee.

3. REGISTRATION

3.1 - Period
From June 5th to July 5th.
The organization reserves the right to extend the registration deadline, as it deems appropriate, if such action is necessary, and will announce it through communication channels.

3.2 - Formats and prices
Exclusively online, via forms or through the Festhome platform
Registration fee: 30 reais (forms) or 8 dollars (Festhome)

4.2. Evaluation Criteria:

A. ORIGINALITY
What will be analyzed:
Innovative narrative idea or creative approach to conventional themes.
Avoid clichés and repetitive formulas.
Potential to surprise the audience.

B. NARRATIVE STRUCTURE
What will be analyzed:
Clear plot progression (beginning, development and conclusion).
Appropriate rhythm for a short film (avoid excessive subplots).
Coherence between conflicts, tensions and resolutions.

C. CONSISTENCY
What will be analyzed:
Internal logic of the story (rules of the universe presented).
Continuity of events and character motivations.
Absence of narrative contradictions.

D. CHARACTERS AND SETTINGS
What will be analyzed:
Depth and development of characters (clear arcs).
Natural dialogue, not very expository and revealing of personality.
Scenarios that contribute to the atmosphere and the advancement of the plot.

E. WRITING
What will be analyzed:
Clarity and objectivity in scene descriptions.
Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

F. TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY
What will be analyzed:
Adaptability of the script for an independent short film. Since this is a competition focused on independent cinema, possible budget limitations, locations, hiring of cast and crew, etc. will be considered.

G. POTENTIAL IMPACT
What will be analyzed:
Emotional: ability to provoke identification, reflection, or emotion.
Social/Cultural: thematic relevance for contemporary debates and promotion of diversity and inclusion.

5. SCRIPT FORMAT

5.1. Mandatory structure:
- Courier New 12 font, standard margins (2.5 cm).
- PDF format
- Cover with title, author's name and/or pseudonym and treatment number (if applicable).
- Maximum of 30 pages, not including the cover.

6. ANNOUNCEMENT OF SELECTED SCREENPLAYS

6.1. The results will be announced in two stages:

- Shortlist: July 25, 2025. These are the screenplays that stood out the most and will continue to compete in the competition. The screenplays selected in this phase will be announced on social media. The number of selected screenplays will be evaluated by the jury, depending on the quality and quantity of scripts submitted.

- Winners: The three winning screenplays of Curta Roteiros - 1st Short Film Screenplay Contest will be announced, first, during the opening of the 1st Curta Cine Sumaré, which will take place on August 1, 2025 in the city of Sumaré-SP at the Municipal Amphitheater. The results will be announced on social media by August 3, 2025.

-Honorable mentions: the judges reserve the right to award or not award one or more scripts with honorable mention.

6.2. The organization reserves the right to postpone the announcement date, if deemed necessary, announcing the new date on its communication channels.

6.3. The winners will be notified by email and/or WhatsApp and on the social media of Curta Roteiros and the production company Jordana Filmes, organizer of the contest.

8. FINAL PROVISIONS

8.1. Announcement:
The results of each stage will be published on the Instagram of Curta Roteiros and the production company Jordana Filmes, as explained in item 6. The organization reserves the right to postpone the announcement date, if deemed necessary, announcing the new date on the communication channels.

8.2. Copyright:
Authors retain the rights to their works, and it is not mandatory for the script to be registered in order to participate;
It is advisable, however, that the screenwriter register his/her work in order to participate in this or any other contests.

8.3. Disqualification:
Plagiarism, discriminatory content or failure to comply with the rules.
