The 18th Bueu International Film Festival will be held from 5 to 20 September 2025 in the town of Bueu, and will aim to screen and promote the best short films made in the last two years internationally.
Participation is open to all works released from 1 January 2024 onwards, and creators of any nationality may participate as long as they are 18 years of age or older. Works of any genre may be submitted, with a maximum duration of 30 minutes (credit titles included). Each participant may submit as many works as they wish. Short films that have already been submitted in previous editions will not be accepted.

All amounts are gross and subject to applicable taxes. Awards will be transferred to the applicant listed on the registration form.
Production and distribution companies authorize FICBUEU to show selected films during social/educational/free events within 12 months of the festival.
Prizes are funded by public/private institutions. Payments may be delayed up to 3 months. Failure to respond within 2 months of prize notification voids the award.
BUEU’S INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
FICBUEU RULES 2025
The 18th Bueu’s International Film Festival will take place from September 5th to September 20th, 2025. The festival aims to promote the best short films made in the last two years in the international scene. The festival is organized by the FICBUEU Association.
ELIGIBILITY AND PARTICIPATION
Only films completed after January 1st, 2024 are eligible. Producers or filmmakers of any nationality over 18 years old who own the rights to the submitted films may enter the Official Short Film Competition.
All genres are welcome. Films must not exceed 30 minutes (credits included). Each participant may submit multiple works.
Previously submitted films to FICBUEU are not eligible.
Films must be presented in their original language. If not in Galician or Spanish, they must include subtitles in English (Spanish optional) or provide a script with translation.
Films may be shot in any format but must include a digital screening copy. The organization reserves the right to reject works due to poor image or sound quality.
Participants must ensure they have all copyright permissions for music, images, or content. FICBUEU accepts no liability for any infringement. Entries not complying with these requirements will be disqualified.
Unless otherwise requested by the festival, films must be submitted via www.shortfilmdepot.com.
Once a film is submitted and accepted, it cannot be withdrawn from the program or demand a screening fee.
SUBMISSION
Submissions must be made through www.shortfilmdepot.com. Submission fees:
Before March 31st: 3 €
April 1st to 20th: 5 €
April 21st to 29th: 7 €
Submission window: December 19th, 2024 to April 29th, 2025 at 14:00 (UTC+1). Late submissions will not be accepted.
FICBUEU guarantees submitted films are used only for selection preview and are not available publicly.

To qualify as a Galician short film, works must be in Galician or have Galician subtitles and meet at least one of the following:
a) Produced or co-produced by a Galician companyb) At least 70% of the technical/artistic team is Galicianc) Directed by a Galician-born or resident filmmaker in an academic settingd) The festival may consider films with strong ties to Galician culture
All works submitted to Official Categories will be considered for the Official Section. Once full, the remaining works will be placed in other categories.
A minimum of 3 Galician and 3 Spanish short films will be selected for the Official Section.
Works submitted to MINIFIC will compete for their respective sections.
Selected films will screen up to 4 times. The selection will be announced via email in July.

Failure to provide these materials may lead to disqualification.
By submitting, filmmakers grant FICBUEU the right to use promotional materials (images, trailers, bios, etc.) across media platforms for festival promotion.
JURY
FICBUEU Association appoints all Jury members and the Selection Committee.
Official Jury: International, parity-based, minimum three members. Awards: First, Second, Best Galician Short Film, Best Spanish Short Film.
Discoveries Jury: Same structure. Awards: Best Discoveries Short, Best Galicia 00_, Best International Cinema School Short.
Juries may leave categories unawarded or grant ex aequo prizes, which will be split equally.
Galician Schools Section has its own rules published in May 2025 on FICBUEU’s website.

VISITORS
One representative per selected short film in Official and Galicia 00_ Sections will be invited. Once travel and lodging are arranged, changes are not allowed. Absences must be justified.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES
Participation implies acceptance of these rules and jury decisions. Any unforeseen issues will be resolved by the organization.
Regulations are available in Galician, Spanish, and English. The Galician version prevails in case of discrepancies.
