The Curtas Noia Industry Lab is organising the 1st Short Film Screenplay Competition with the aim of encouraging the creation of new cinematic works, fostering emerging talent and promoting stories capable of connecting local identity with global audiences.

The competition has been established as a tool for discovering and supporting new filmmakers, encouraging the development of screenplays with cinematic potential and the prospect of success at national and international film festivals.

Furthermore, the competition seeks to encourage entries that establish links with Galicia, its heritage, culture, landscapes or communities, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the Galician audiovisual ecosystem.

The Curtas Noia Industry Lab is launching the 1st Short Film Project Competition with the aim of promoting the development, production and visibility of emerging audiovisual projects, whilst fostering connections between creators, the industry and the region.

This initiative has been created as a platform to encourage the creation of new cinematic works, promote emerging talent and generate real opportunities for the development, production and distribution of short films.

Furthermore, the competition aims to position Noia and Galicia as centres of audiovisual creation, supporting projects that can be developed partly or entirely within the autonomous community and that help to highlight its cultural, natural and identity-related heritage.

SHORT FILM SCREENPLAY COMPETITION

- Curtas Noia Industry Lab Award for Best Short Film Screenplay

The jury will award a cash prize of 300 euros to the best short film screenplay submitted.

- Ría de Noia Award for the Screenplay with the Strongest Regional Connection

The jury may award a special mention, without a cash prize, to the screenplay that best represents or promotes the cultural, historical or landscape identity of Galicia and the Noia region.

- Additional recognitions

The organisers may include new collaborations, consultancy services, mentoring, residencies or prizes in kind provided by partner organisations.

The jury will award a special distinction, without a cash prize, to the project that best contributes to the promotion and enhancement of Noia, Galicia and its cultural, social, historical or natural heritage.

This distinction may be awarded alongside the Curtas Noia Industry Lab Award for Best Project.

Recognition for the Finalists

The finalist projects will receive:

- Industry accreditation from the Curtas Noia Industry Lab.

- Participation in professional and networking activities.

- An official certificate of selection.

RULES OF THE SHORT FILM SCREENPLAY COMPETITION

1. PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION
The Curtas Noia Industry Lab is organising the 1st Short Film Screenplay Competition with the
aim of encouraging the creation of new cinematic works, fostering emerging talent and promoting stories capable of connecting local identity with global audiences.

The competition has been established as a tool for discovering and supporting new filmmakers, encouraging the development of screenplays with cinematic potential and the prospect of success at national and international film festivals.
Furthermore, the competition seeks to encourage entries that establish links with Galicia, its heritage, culture, landscapes or communities, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the Galician audiovisual ecosystem.


2. PARTICIPANTS
Anyone aged 18 or over, of any nationality or place of residence, may take part.

Participants must be the authors or co-owners of the rights to the works
submitted.

Scripts that have already been filmed or are currently in production are not eligible.


3. SCRIPT REQUIREMENTS
Submitted scripts must meet the following requirements:

- Be original and unpublished.
- Be written in Spanish or Galician.
- Be for short films in the fiction, documentary, animation or hybrid formats.
- Be no longer than 15 pages, including the cover page and synopsis.
- Include a synopsis of no more than 15 lines.
- Adhere to the professional screenwriting format (Courier 12).

Both original works and literary adaptations may be submitted, provided that the entrant holds the relevant rights.

Scripts must be submitted anonymously, with no name, signature or pseudonym visible on the document.

The organisers reserve the right to exclude any entries that fail to meet any of the established requirements.


4. CONNECTION TO GALICIA AND THE REGION
The theme is open.

However, the Curtas Noia Industry Lab will give special consideration to scripts that incorporate any of the following elements:

 Galician culture.
 Historical, natural or ethnographic heritage.
 Folk traditions.
 Galician landscapes or locations.
 Use of the Galician language.
 Stories linked to the sea, the coast or the rural world.
 Collective memory and regional identity.
 Contemporary themes related to Galician life.
A regional connection is not compulsory, but will be considered an additional criterion for assessment.


5. SUBMISSIONS AND REGISTRATION
Each author may submit up to three scripts.
Registration is free via the platform www.festhome.com until Friday 14 August 2026.

Entries must include:
- Document 1
 A fully anonymised script in PDF format.

- Document 2
 Author’s details:
 Full name.
 Email address.
 Telephone number.
 Brief filmography and biography.


6. deadlineS
The deadline for registration is 14 August 2026 via the platform www.festhome.com
Entries received after the deadline will not be accepted.


7. SELECTION
A reading committee appointed by the organisers will assess all scripts received.
Up to ten (10) finalist scripts will be selected from among the entries submitted.
Selected authors will be able to take part in the activities of the Curtas Noia Industry Lab, including training sessions, networking opportunities and meetings with guest professionals.


8. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Projects will be assessed according to the following criteria:

Concept – Score
Narrative and cinematic quality – 35 points
Originality and creativity – 25 points
Production feasibility – 15 points
Festival potential – 15 points
Connection to Galicia and the region – 10 points

TOTAL: 100 POINTS

10. PUBLIC PRESENTATION
The authors of the shortlisted scripts may be invited to take part in a public presentation session as part of the Curtas Noia Industry Lab.

The organisers may facilitate meetings with production companies, distributors, festivals and other stakeholders in the audiovisual sector.


11. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Authors shall retain ownership and the rights to exploit their works at all times.
Participation in the competition does not imply any transfer of rights to the organisers.

Participants guarantee that they are the rights holders of the works submitted and indemnify the organisers against any liability arising from third-party claims.

12. ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES
Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of these rules.

Any unforeseen circumstances will be resolved by the organisers of the Curtas Noia
Industry Lab.

RULES FOR THE 1ST CURTAS NOIA INDUSTRY LAB 2026 SHORT FILM PROJECT COMPETITION


ARTICLE 1. PURPOSE OF THE CALL FOR ENTRIES
The Curtas Noia Industry Lab is launching the 1st Short Film Project Competition with the aim of promoting the development, production and visibility of emerging audiovisual projects, whilst fostering connections between creators, the industry and the region.
This initiative has been created as a platform to encourage the creation of new cinematic works, promote emerging talent and generate real opportunities for the development, production and distribution of short films.
Furthermore, the competition aims to position Noia and Galicia as centres of audiovisual creation, supporting projects that can be developed partly or entirely within the autonomous community and that help to highlight its cultural, natural and identity-related heritage.

ARTICLE 2. PARTICIPANTS

2.1. The competition is open to individuals aged 18 or over and audiovisual production companies of any nationality.

2.2. Projects for short films in the genres of fiction, documentary, animation or hybrid formats will be accepted.

2.3. Projects must be in the development or pre-production phase.

2.4. Projects for which filming has already begun or which have been completed are not eligible to participate.

2.5. Each participant may submit a maximum of two projects.


ARTICLE 3. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

3.1. There are no restrictions on the subject matter.

3.2. The intended running time of the work must not exceed 20 minutes.

3.3. It will be viewed favourably if the project involves filming at least 40 per cent of its footage in locations in Noia or Galicia.

3.4. Particular consideration will be given to projects linked to any of the following aspects:

- Galician culture.
- Historical, artistic or ethnographic heritage.
- Traditions and collective memory.
- Landscape and territory.
- Use of the Galician language.
- Involvement of Galician audiovisual professionals or companies.
- Promotion of the region as a hub for audiovisual creation.
- Cultural, tourist or economic impact on Galicia.

3.5. A link to the region is not mandatory, but will constitute an additional assessment criterion.

ARTICLE 4. REGISTRATION

4.1. Registration shall be free of charge.

4.2. The organisers shall set the opening and closing dates for the call for entries each year.

4.3. Participants must submit the following documentation:

 Official registration form.
 Synopsis (maximum one page).
 Project proposal or brief (maximum five pages).
 Script or storyboard.
 Director’s statement.
 Director’s filmography.
 Production company’s track record (if applicable).
 Estimated budget.
 Financing plan.
 Proposed production schedule.
 Visual dossier containing all content, a teaser or supplementary audiovisual material (maximum 20 pages).

4.4. The organisation may request additional documentation where it deems this necessary for the proper assessment of the projects.


ARTICLE 5. PROJECT SELECTION

5.1. A selection committee appointed by the organisers will assess all applications received.

5.2. A maximum of eight (8) finalists will be selected from among the projects submitted.

5.3. Those responsible for the selected projects will take part in the activities scheduled as part of the Curtas Noia Industry Lab.

5.4. The selection will be announced via the festival’s official channels.

5.5. The Curtas Noia Industry Lab aims to promote projects demonstrating artistic quality, commercial viability and the potential for national and international distribution, paying particular attention to those that establish links with Galicia and contribute to the region’s audiovisual development.


ARTICLE 6. FINAL PITCH

6.1. Finalist projects must present their proposal publicly to a professional jury during the Curtas Noia Industry Lab.

6.2. Each participant will have:

 7 minutes to present their project.
 5 minutes to answer the jury’s questions.

6.3. Participants may use audiovisual materials, digital presentations, mood boards or any other resource that facilitates the presentation of their project.

6.4. Failure to attend the pitch will result in automatic exclusion from the competition, except in cases of duly justified force majeure.


ARTICLE 7. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The jury will assess the projects according to the following criteria:

Concept – Score
Artistic and narrative quality – 30 points
Production feasibility – 20 points
Originality and long-term potential – 20 points
Quality of the pitch and communication skills – 15 points
Connection to Galicia, Noia and the region – 15 points

TOTAL: 100 POINTS

The following factors will be taken into account for the regional assessment:

 Filming planned to take place in Galicia.
 Use of locations in Noia.
 Themes linked to the region.
 Involvement of Galician professionals.
 Use of the Galician language.
 Potential cultural, social or economic impact.

ARTICLE 8. JURY

8.1. The jury shall be composed of professionals from the audiovisual sector appointed by the festival management.

8.2. The jury’s decision shall be final.

8.3. The jury may declare any of the prizes void if it considers that the projects submitted do not meet the required standard.

8.4. The jury may award special mentions if it deems it appropriate.

9.1. Curtas Noia Industry Lab Award for Best Short Film Project

The winning project will receive a cash prize of 300 euros to be used for the development or production of the project.

ARTICLE 10. OBLIGATIONS OF THE WINNING PROJECTS

10.1. Should the short film be produced, the winning project must include the following statement in its credits: “Winning project of the 1st Curtas Noia Industry Lab Project Competition.”

10.2. It must also incorporate the festival’s official logo in accordance with the guidelines provided by the organisers.

10.3. The organisers may request information on the progress of the project for the purposes of monitoring and cultural promotion.


ARTICLE 11. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

11.1. Participants guarantee that they are the owners of the intellectual property rights to the projects submitted.

11.2. The organisers do not acquire any rights to exploit the participating works.

11.3. The authors shall retain full ownership of their projects.

11.4. The organisers may use images, extracts from promotional materials and basic information about the selected projects for the purposes of communicating and publicising the competition.

ARTICLE 12. ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

12.1. Participation in this competition implies full acceptance of these rules.

12.2. Any unforeseen circumstances will be resolved by the organisers.
