Prize Distribution Note:
If the prize pool is smaller, awards will be distributed proportionally while maintaining the same relative weighting across categories. All finalists will be notified of exact prize amounts 30 days before the ceremony.

Official Rules & Regulations

1. ELIGIBILITY

Films must be completed after January 1, 2023

All genres and formats accepted within designated categories

No restriction on country of origin

Filmmaker must be 18 years or older

Works-in-progress are not accepted

Submissions must be original works created by the submitting filmmaker(s)

Multiple submissions are allowed per filmmaker


2. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Online screener link required (Vimeo, YouTube, or direct link)

Password-protected screeners accepted (provide password in submission form)

Minimum resolution: 1080p HD

Subtitles required for non-English dialogue

Trailer, poster, and press kit encouraged but not required

Filmmakers must own or have secured all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions

Films containing copyrighted music, footage, or other materials require proper clearance


3. PRIVACY & DATA USAGE

Submitted films and materials are stored securely on BlockReel DAO infrastructure

Personal information (name, email, profile data) is used solely for festival administration
Voter viewing sessions are logged for security and anti-piracy purposes

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties

Screener access is restricted to eligible voters only during voting periods


4. COMMUNITY SCREENING CONSENT

Filmmaker acknowledges and agrees that submitted films may be screened by BlockReel DAO's verified filmmaker voting community during the official voting period. Screeners will be:

Accessible only to registered, token-verified community members

Protected by visible and forensic watermarking for piracy prevention

Subject to session tracking (wallet address, email, IP, timestamp)

Limited to streaming only; no downloads permitted
Maximum 2 concurrent streams per voter to prevent unauthorized sharing

Filmmaker consents to this limited exhibition for voting purposes only. This does not constitute public exhibition or distribution.


5. RIGHTS & OWNERSHIP

All submissions are non-exclusive. Filmmaker retains full ownership of their work.

Filmmaker warrants they have all necessary rights, clearances, and permissions for music, footage, and third-party content

BlockReel DAO may use film stills, trailers, and promotional materials for festival marketing and publicity

Winners may be offered (but are not obligated to accept) distribution on the BlockReel streaming platform under a separate agreement with 80% revenue share to creator

BlockReel DAO does not acquire any distribution or exploitation rights through submission alone


6. VOTING & JUDGING

Hybrid Model: Films are evaluated by expert judges (30% weight) and community voters (70% weight)

Expert Panel: Industry professionals with category-specific expertise provide professional evaluation

Community Voting: BlockReel DAO token holders and

Founder NFT holders participate in community voting

Voting Power: Community votes use quadratic voting formula based on $REEL token holdings and multipliers (Founder NFT holders receive 2x multiplier, verified filmmakers receive 2x multiplier)

Snapshot Mechanism: Token holdings are recorded at a specific snapshot time to prevent manipulation through token transfers

All vote results remain hidden until the voting period closes

Final scores are calculated automatically based on the weighted combination of expert and community votes


7. FILMMAKER VERIFICATION & FOUNDER NFT

To participate in community voting or access festival screeners, Filmmakers are encouraged to:

Visit blockreeldao.com and mint a free Founder NFT
Complete the Verified Filmmaker application
Connect a Solana-compatible wallet

Verification is free and grants lifetime founding member status, governance voting rights, and access to exclusive community features.

8. PRIZES

Prize pool funded by submission fees, ecosystem revenue, and fundraising efforts

Target prize pool: up to $250,000 USD (subject to funding milestones)
100% of submission fees and ecosystem revenue contributes to the prize pool up to the $250K ceiling

Prizes are awarded in USDC (a US dollar stablecoin, 1 USDC = $1 USD) via blockchain. Winners without a crypto wallet will receive setup assistance. USDC can be converted to USD and withdrawn to your bank account within 24 hours.

Winners must have a connected Solana wallet to receive prizes. You can do this now by signing up to our website or after the festival event.

Prizes are distributed within 35 days of the awards ceremony

Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes on prize winnings

Quality Standards: BlockReel DAO reserves the right to withhold prizes in any category if no submissions meet minimum quality standards worthy of recognition
Insufficient Submissions: If a category receives fewer than 3 eligible submissions, BlockReel DAO may cancel that category or redistribute prize funds


9. CONTENT GUIDELINES

Submissions must not contain illegal content or material that violates copyright law
Films depicting graphic violence, explicit sexual content, or hate speech must be clearly labeled
BlockReel DAO reserves the right to reject or remove submissions that violate community standards
Misrepresentation of authorship or plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification


10. ANTI-PIRACY & SECURITY

All screeners are protected with forensic watermarks embedding viewer identification (wallet address, email, name)

Unauthorized recording, downloading, or distribution of screeners is strictly prohibited

Voters who leak or pirate screeners will face account suspension and potential legal action

Watermark tracking enables identification of piracy sources

BlockReel DAO takes film security seriously and employs multiple protection layers


11. DISQUALIFICATION

BlockReel DAO reserves the right to disqualify any submission that:

Contains unlicensed or infringing material

Violates platform community standards

Is submitted fraudulently or with false information

Breaches screener privacy (e.g., unauthorized distribution)

Attempts to manipulate voting through coordinated token transfers or vote brigading

Fails to provide required materials (screener links, etc.)


12. WITHDRAWAL POLICY

You may withdraw your submission at any time before voting begins

Once community voting starts, withdrawals are not permitted

To withdraw, contact festival administration through the support system

Submission fees are non-refundable after processing


13. FIRST-LOOK PRODUCTION OPTION

By submitting to this festival, Filmmaker grants BlockReel DAO LLC a 90-day first-look option following the announcement of festival winners. During this period, BlockReel DAO shall have the exclusive right to negotiate in good faith for production, distribution, or financing partnership on the submitted work or future works by the Filmmaker.

This option is non-binding and does not obligate either party to enter into a production agreement. If no agreement is reached within the 90-day period, all rights revert fully to Filmmaker.


14. LIABILITY & DISCLAIMERS

BlockReel DAO is not responsible for technical issues preventing submission or viewing

We are not liable for delays in prize distribution due to blockchain network issues

Festival dates, rules, and prize amounts may be modified at BlockReel DAO's discretion

Filmmakers are solely responsible for securing all necessary rights and clearances

BlockReel DAO assumes no liability for copyright claims arising from submitted content


15. AMENDMENTS

BlockReel DAO reserves the right to amend these rules at any time. Filmmakers will be notified of material changes via email. Any changes will be communicated to registered filmmakers and posted on the official festival website.


16. AGREEMENT

By clicking "Submit," Filmmaker confirms they have read, understood, and agree to these Rules & Regulations in their entirety. You certify that all information provided is accurate and that you have the legal right to submit the film and grant the licenses described herein.
