Bogotá Horror Film Festival

A window into horror, fantasy, and the power of Latin American genre cinema.

The Bogotá Horror Film Festival is a space dedicated to the promotion, exhibition, and creation of genre cinema, with a special focus on horror, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy. Since its founding in 2019, it has established itself as a meeting point for filmmakers, audiences, and industry professionals who share a passion for intense, unsettling, and transformative narratives.

Over its six editions, the festival has developed a strong program that includes screenings of national and international short and feature films, training workshops, talks, and special activities. In its sixth edition alone, held from October 22 to 26, 2024, 818 people participated in on-site activities. The program featured 18 national short films, 10 international short films, 5 national feature films, 6 Latin American feature films, and 5 international feature films.

Throughout its trajectory, the Bogotá Horror Film Festival has gone beyond the borders of the capital, reaching audiences in municipalities such as Facatativá, Zipaquirá, and Mosquera, expanding access to genre cinema for new audiences and territories. In addition, its promotional strategy has integrated digital media, social networks, and traditional media to strengthen audience engagement and increase the visibility of emerging works and filmmakers.

The festival also plays a fundamental educational role. In 2024, it offered five practical workshops with more than 129 registered participants and 80 attendees in in-person sessions, covering topics such as screenwriting, music for horror films, acting techniques, and the use of artificial intelligence in audiovisual production.

As part of a strong collaborative network, the Bogotá Horror Film Festival is an active member of alliances and collectives such as FANLATAM (Latin American Fantastic Film Festival Network), Apocalipsis al Sur del Mundo, the Ibero-American Network of Genre Film Festivals, and ANAFe (National Association of Film, Showcase, and Audiovisual Events of Colombia). These networks help showcase local content on international stages and facilitate creative exchange among filmmakers across the region.

The Bogotá Horror Film Festival does not only open a screen for genre cinema: it opens paths, builds community, and projects the continent through stories that confront our fears, move us, and transform us.

The awards of the Bogotá Horror Film Festival not only recognize the best in horror, suspense, and science fiction, but also aim to support the future of independent cinema by rewarding talent with concrete tools for professional growth.

Each winner will receive:

An original festival statuette: the Nosferatu Hand, an iconic symbol of cinematic terror and creative resistance. This handcrafted piece represents the dark, independent, and defiant spirit that defines our festival.

An official certificate accrediting their recognition within one of the most important genre platforms in Latin America.

Additional awards designed to boost their careers, such as professional consulting, media visibility, distribution opportunities, and co-production possibilities with festival partners, as well as access to funds, grants, or tools for the development of new productions.

In addition, the Best National Short Film will receive an 88% discount on the rental of filming equipment for its next production, a benefit offered by the company 88 Films, providing direct support for the creation of new cinematic projects.

Furthermore, winning projects become part of the promotional circuit of FanLatam (Latin American Fantastic Film Festival Network) and ANAFe (National Association of Film Festivals, Showcases, and Audiovisual Events of Colombia), expanding their reach and exhibition opportunities at both national and international levels.
