The Teatro Comunale of Modena, within the frame of Modena Belcanto Festival and in collaboration with the Associazione Circuito Cinema and Sala Truffaut, announces the VOX/IMAGE competition for short films on the theme of Belcanto. The subject of the short videos will be vocality understood not only in a lyrical context but in its broadest sense.


MODENA BELCANTO FESTIVAL

Modena Belcanto Festival is born from Modena Città del Belcanto, an event that in May 2024 will characterize the initiatives promoted as part of a project that the Municipality of Modena, the Modena Foundation, the Modena Municipal Theater Foundation and the Vecchi-Tonelli Conservatory of Music. The four institutions have set up a committee that has been working successfully for seven years to enhance the city's opera tradition and its musical heritage, opening up to many collaborations with other institutions in the area.

From 2024 the program that accompanies and marks these initiatives will take the form of a festival with the aim of enhancing the entertainment, training and research activities, which have already consolidated the tradition of Belcanto in Modena. To these will be added cultural references and different languages: from opera to ancient music through electronics, pop and media arts.
The artistic aspect is accompanied by the tourist attractiveness of the city and its high cultural profile which is now widely established at an international level, with increasingly greater recognition in recent years. The festival was created to broaden the perspective on the valorization of bel canto and vocality in its broadest sense, in the context of the territory, city and regional, of its protagonists and its history. This is associated with innovative aspects such as attention to new creativity, with express reference to Modena UNESCO Creative City.

PRIZE
The winning video will be awarded a prize of €500 established by the Friends of Modena Theaters Association.

Short films with the following characteristics can be registered for this call:

• maximum duration: 7 minutes;

• completed after January 1, 2023;

• never released publicly in Italy (public screenings, other festivals or events, digital releases, etc.);

• its authors (individually or in groups) are not over 30 years of age;

Participation is free

TERMS OF DELIVERY
No later than April 27, 2024

REGISTRATION METHOD
Fill out the form at this link: https://www.teatrocomunalemodena.it/concorso-video-vox-image/ and insert a link to the video uploaded to the YouTube or Vimeo platform in private mode.

Participation is open to both individuals and groups.

In the case of groups, registration must be entrusted to a single representative.

Registration for minor participants (both individuals and groups) must be carried out by a parent/guardian.

In case of participation of classes or groups of classes, registration can also be carried out by a teacher.

JURY

The competition jury, nominated by the Teatro Comunale di Modena, will be made up of five members with proven experience in the cinematographic sector

SELECTION PHASES

Phase 1
The Commission, at its sole discretion, will choose 5 videos to be screened at the Sala Truffaut in Modena on the evening of May 29, 2024, at 8 pm.
The Commission will evaluate each single short film received and identify the 5 finalist videos based on the criteria of: quality, originality and coherence with the requested subject.

All candidates will be notified via email of the selection result by May 6, 2024.

The 5 selected competitors will be asked to send the video in high resolution Quicktime ProRes 422 HQ format, free of rights for screening at the Truffaut Room and for publication for free use on the communication channels relating to the Modena Belcanto Festival.

Phase 2
On the evening of May 29, 2024 in the Truffaut Room the Commission will vote to nominate the winner of the competition.

PRIZE
The winning video will be awarded a prize of €500 established by the Friends of Modena Theaters Association.

RIGHTS
It is the responsibility of the participants to ensure that they are legitimately authorized to enter the film in this competition.

By entering their film in this competition, the participant(s) declare(s) to be the holder(s) of all rights to the film (also for the part of any co-authors who do not intend to participate), including those relating to any copyrighted material inserted within the film.

The Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Modena cannot be held responsible for the unauthorized insertion of any copyrighted material within or related to the film presented. The Teatro Comunale di Modena Foundation reserves the right to disqualify any film containing any unauthorized insertion of copyrighted materials.

VOX/IMAGE competition
The undersigned, having seen the Presidential Decree 28 December 2000, n. 445 concerning “T.U. of the legislative and regulatory provisions regarding administrative documentation" and subsequent amendments and additions, having regard to Law 12 November 2011, n. 183 and in particular art. 15 concerning the new provisions regarding certificates and substitute declarations, aware of the criminal responsibilities and administrative effects deriving from false documents and false declarations (as provided for by articles 75 and 76 of Presidential Decree no. 445 of 12.28.2000) , pursuant to and for the purposes of the articles. 46 and 47 of the same Presidential Decree. n. 445 of 12.28.2000
