Festival start: 07 October 2024      Festival end: 11 October 2024

The first edition of the EcoCine - Environmental Cinema Festival, will be held in person from October 7 to 11, 2024, exhibiting 12 cinematographic works, distributed in 14 in-person sessions, in the city of Laguna. The festival aims to democratize access to culture, showing films for free and raising updated and quality content on audiovisual productions that address socio-environmental quests in their diverse nuances. In this way we want to promote a broad debate, dialoguing with society on vital and urgent issues for the planet through the exhibition of two films allied to the realization of rounds of talks, lectures and mini-courses, as the intention of forming opinions and raising the general public in depth of questões addressed in the films. The EcoCine - Environmental Cinema Festival has among its objectives to attract interested audiences and form new audiences, raise culture with quality information and generate a reflection on the role of each person in the search for solutions and alternatives for a more sustainable world. By setting these values, EcoCine is configured as a non-competitive event. Além disso, the festival tem from this its first edition or focus on accessibility and no commitment to raise culture and training for the public.

No prize

EcoCine will show animation, fiction and documentary cinematographic works, distributed between short, medium and feature films that highlight problems and/or seek solutions, giving visibility to the various contemporary socio-environmental issues.

The project will select, through its selection committee, films of excellent technical quality and that meet evaluation criteria that will be defined by the team, thus seeking the best (according to the curators) cinematographic works from that period on socio-environmental themes.

The festival aims to be a hub for training and debates that will be organized and adapted, depending on the films selected. EcoCine proposes to show, throughout the 14 planned sessions, films that deal with aspects such as: climate change, garbage, urban mobility, deforestation, food sovereignty, indigenous peoples, consumption, water, environmental activism, conservation, contamination, pollution, life wild and sustainability.

EcoCine promotes not only socio-environmental education, but also the importance of democratizing access, sensitizing and raising awareness of our audience about the need to include people with disabilities (PCDs), in this way it will hold sessions aimed at this public, in institutions that serve its demands, as well as a mini-course focused on the topic.

Also because of this, the festival will not be a competitive event, in this sense, there will be no film competitions and awards, but the screening rights for the selected films will be paid and producers will be asked to transfer screening rights.
