Festival start: 11 November 2023
Festival end: 12 November 2023
FESTIFAL is an International Short Film Festival whose main topic is rural areas; it is held every two years in Urrea de Gaén (Spain).
In order to energize the cultural atmosphere in the region, Bajo Martín Study Center proposed in 2009 the organization of an International Short Film Festival of rural themes.
This presents other realities and rural environments different from ours in different parts of the planet, through documentary and fiction films.
This project was born with the idea of combining cinema with rural environment and bringing it closer to the inhabitants of the region and to the general public. The festival has been consolidating edition after edition, increasing its importance within the circuit of festivals. Each year the number of proposals received increases, mostly short films of great quality sent from all parts of the world.
Festival has become, over the years, an inescapable event within the cultural agenda of the region. It has become very successful, with a high level of attendance, and a great number of public viewers come to see the finalist works throughout the contest.
The rules of participation for the next edition of FESTIFAL (Short Films Festival of Rural Themes), which will be held in the Aragon town of Urrea de Gaén (Spain) from November 11th to 12th, 2023, are as follows:
1.- The productions must have rural themes or be set in the rural world.
2.- The term “short film” shall designate an audiovisual work lasting 30 minutes or less, credits included.
3.- Submission of works is to be done through Festhome. If the language used in these works is other than Spanish, they will have to include Spanish subtitles. If they are selected, a projection quality copy will be required for exhibition at the festival.

The works sent must be accompanied by the registration form (it can be downloaded from http://festifal.wordpress.com or by requesting it to festifalcebm@gmail.com), a photocopy of ID, a photograph of a fragment of the work, and a director’s photograph, in digital format for publication in the catalog.
The cost of registration will be € 5
4.- Each author may submit as many works as he or she wishes, presenting each of them independently.
5.- The works shall not have been produced before January 1, 2019, and they shall not have been presented to this festival before. On the understanding that the copies are not unique, the copies submitted will become part of the Bajo Martín Study Center archive. Bajo Martín Study Center is the festival organising entity, and it will only be able to exhibit them for cultural purposes and on a non-profit- making basis, taking account any previously agreed exhibition rights on a case to case basis.
6.- The festival organising committee will select a maximum of 15 works. A pre-selection Jury will choose the finalists among all the works submitted in the different categories of the official competition.
7.- The deadline for submission is September 1, 2023.
8.- The festival will cover the accommodation expenses, as well as lunch and dinner for the representatives of the finalist short films on the day of the screening. This is a rural-themed festival held in the rural world, so a very important part of the event is receiving the finalists and turning Urrea de Gaén into a meeting point for audiovisual professionals for a weekend.
Except in justified cases*, support is especially appreciated with the presence at the award ceremony of the people directly awarded or a representative of the awarded short films.
* Justified, exceptional, extraordinary, geographical distance...
9.-The organisers will appoint a Jury made up of professionals and individuals related to the audiovisual, artistic and cultural fields, who will decide on the winners. In the event that the Jury considers that it is essential to deliver an ex aequo prize, the amount of the prize will be distributed among the winners. The decision of the Jury is final. There is no right of appeal against the Jury’s decision, and the Jury reserves the right not to select a winner.
10.- OFFICIAL SECTION PRIZES
The Jury will award the following prizes:
Best short fiction award – 800€
Best short documentary award – 800€
The organisers reserve the right to modify these rules, in this case such modifications will be published in the following website:
