THE INTERNACIONAL ALTERNATIVE MEDIA FILM FESTIVAL (FICMA) has as its objective to offer a space for the exhibition of quality films made with non-professional cameras, cell phones, handy cams, sport cameras, smart watches, tablets, etcetera, looking to promote the talent and creativity of those who have the desire of taking their stories to the screen but do not count with the big budgets that filmmaking often requires.

AWARDS. FICMA will give away an emblematic trophy of the Festival to each of the winners in each category, as well as a certificate of participation to all the selected films. For the winners in each category, our sponsors will provide special prizes that will be announced until the moment of the awarding.

NOTE.- The online registration form is available on the festival's new website:

National and foreign filmmakers could be able to participate with films produced between 2015 and 2017.

Inscribed films must be made with devices such as, mobiles, tablets, sportive cameras, drones, handycams, cameras Dsrl and any other alternative and original methods.

Films made with cameras like Red One, Scarlet X, Epic, Torri Alexa, Sony f6, Black Magic, Canon Eos, 35mm, 16mm or any conventional or professional camera , will not be accepted.

Festival registration is free.

Inscribed films will have to clearly specify which devices or creative media were used for his realization, proving it through photos, stills or videos.

Categories in Competition
1) International Category

Narrative Feature Films. - Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of 60 minutes, maximum 120 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

Narrative Short Film. - Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of 03 minutes, maximum 30 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

Documentary feature film: Any documentary work with a running time of minimum 60 minutes-maximum 120 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

Documentary Short Film. - Any documentary work with a running time of minimum 3 minutes- maximum 30 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

Animation Short Film. - Any productions made with digital animation methods, creative and non-conventional media, that fulfil with the requests of the festival, such as not using professional cameras. With a running time of minimum 3 minutes - maximum 30 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

Experimental Short Film. - Projects made with non-conventional and/or abstract methods of narrative, looking for expression through new symbolisms and alternative resources to express concepts and experiences that fulfil with the requests of the festival of not using professional cameras. With a running time of minimum 3 minutes- maximum 30 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

2) Mexican Selection

Mexican Narrative Short Film. – Narrative productions made ONLY WITH CELL PHONES, With a running time minimum of 3 minutes- maximum of 30 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

Mexican Documentary Short Film: Documentary productions made ONLY WITH CELL PHONES. With a running time of 03 minutes, maximum of 30 minutes including credits. Free thematic.

REGISTRATION CONDITIONS:

Submissions will be accepted from May 15th, 2017 with a project reception deadline on August 30th, 2017.

To participate in FICMA, filmmakers must register their films filling the
online registration form with the following link:

Filmmakers must upload their films on the FESTHOME platform in which it is mandatory to have the option of download for viewing with link and password, in digital full HD or in the best possible quality that your device or camera allows, with the following link:

No physical copies will be accepted.

Submitted films in a language different from Spanish or English must be subtitled on any of those languages, otherwise will not be accepted.

Participants will be able to submit one or more films in all categories.

Videoclips, advertising spots or corporate videos will not be accepted.

Once a film is submitted, it cannot be withdrawn.

Participants are required to submit Digital Press Kits containing: Film Stills (300dpi, format jpg or tiff), Director’s photography (300dpi, format .jpg or tiff), Film poster (300dpi, format .jpg or tiff), Production Making-of photos (300dpi, format .jpg or tiff) and trailer (optional) on the FESTHOME platform where the material can be downloaded.

SELECTION and EXHIBITION:

The organizer committee will evaluate the films submitted and will choose the best of the works in the different categories of the festival and will choose those that will conform the official selection and competition of FICMA 2017.

In order to select, the committee will evaluate the works taking into account the values of production of the film (script, direction, photography, edition, quality of the image), devices used to record, use of alternative technologies, creativity and originality.

The filmmakers who register the film must be credited as the authors of the work, and must possess its copyrights and moral rights. Upon submission, the filmmakers agree to release International Film Festival with Alternative Media from any liability for the possible copyright claims that may arise from any third parties.

The remaining films selected in the official selection and competition will be saved in FICMA´s private library.

The results of the official selection and competition will be published on October 22, 2017 and the selected will be notified by e-mail, digital platforms and social network of the festival.

THE festival will be able to use fragments of the films for promotion and diffusion of the same.

The films selected will have diffusion in different exhibition venues, as well as at the end of the festival will be displayed on line through the digital platforms of the festival, by a period of 15 to 20 days, withdrawing them at the end of this.

The films of the official selection will be part of itinerant shows and cycles of cinema both national and international in exhibition agreements of exhibition with other festivals and institutions.

The festival did not pay screening fees.

The organizer committee will establish the order and date of exhibition of the selected films both in the venues and in their online visualization.

JURY and AWARDS

The jury will be formed by personalities of the industry and the cultural field and his resolution will be unappeasable.

The winners of the different categories in competition and honorable mentions will be announced on the last day of the festival in the closing ceremony.

The official award is the FICMA TROPHY and a digital or printed certificate, as well as prizes in kind in some categories from our sponsors.

The festival reserves the right to grant honorable mentions to the works that consider deserving of these.

The registration and participation of a film supposes the full acceptance of the terms and rules of the festival.
