THE FICMY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF MÉRIDA AND YUCATÁN - FICMY AND THE FILM COMMISSION OF MÉRIDA AND YUCATÁN, invite Mexican or foreign scriptwriters to participate in the First Short Film Screenplay Contest 2020.
2020 SHORT FILM COMPETITION
The International Film Festival of Merida and Yucatan - FICMY and the Film Commission of Merida and Yucatan, in order to contribute to the national cinematographic activity, invite Mexican or foreign scriptwriters who reside in the country to participate in the First Screenplay Contest for Short Film 2020.
OBJECTIVES
- Encourage the creation of short film scripts.
- Reward the creative work of film writers.
BASES OF PARTICIPATION
- Scriptwriters of legal age, Mexican or foreigners may participate. - Short film scripts must be unpublished.
- The scripts could be co-authored, as long as it is
represented by one of the authors.
- You can register only one script per participant.
- Writers will have absolute and unrestricted freedom of expression and
the subject will be free.
INSCRIPTION
- Registration for this contest will be through the FilmFreeway platform: https://filmfreeway.com/FicmyMeridayYucatanFilmFestival - Registration will be from Tuesday, February 18 until 12:00 hours on July 31, 2020.

ABOUT THE SCRIPT TO PARTICIPATE / CATEGORIES AND GENRE
The scripts will be exclusively fiction in all genres, except science fiction, war, period cinema, western.
SCRIPT RIGHTS
- The script must be finished and in spanish language.
- If the script has dialogues in another language, it is necessary to include the
corresponding translation in spanish language.
- In the case of relying on existing literary works or being
film adaptations of these, must accompany the script documentation proving ownership of the rights of film adaptation or authorization for its use.
- Certificate of registration of the project before the Instituto Nacional del Derecho de Autor (Copyright).
- In case the project is in process, present the certificate.
- In case of being an adaptation, you must inform yourself of this condition and present reliable evidence that you have the author's legal consent.
SCREEN FORMAT:
The work must have the format of literary script, following the standard specifications of this type of works, which are detailed below, and its extension must be at least 10 (ten) pages, and at most 12 (twelve) pages .
Technical specifications of script:
- The pages will be numbered.
- The script must be written with simple line spacing and typography
Courier (or New Courier) at 12 points.
- On each page a margin will be left above and below 2.5 cm.
- A margin of 3 cm will be left on the left.
- Scenes must be numbered.
- The scene header must specify INT. / EXT., Scene place and DAY / NIGHT.
- A 5 cm margin will be left to the left and right of the dialogue blocks; in this way the text of the dialogue will be with a maximum width of approximately 40 characters.
- In the dialogues and actions the names of the characters must be capitalized.
- All texts will be aligned to the left.
- It must not have technical specifications.
- The script will be delivered in PDF format.
REQUIREMENTS

Unpublished cinematographic script.
Official identification of the contestant (INE, passport, etc.). Registration with INDAUTOR or proof of processing.
Signing and sending of the letter, in which they express the originality of the script and declare ownership of the exploitation rights thereof without restrictions, as well as their power to assign them to third parties. PRIZE
The winner will be credited to the amount of $ 5,000.00 MXN
JURY
The selection of the works will be in charge of a jury made up of specialists in the subject, designated by the International Film Festival of and Yucatan - FICMY and the Film Commission of Merida and Yucatan.
RESULTS
The selected work will be published on August 28, 2020, through the social networks of the Merida and Yucatan International Film Festival - FICMY and the Merida and Yucatan Film Commission. Once published, it will be notified by email, and they must respond to its acceptance of the prize within 48 hours of the corresponding notification.
DISSEMINATION OF THE WINNERS
By participating with his work in this contest, the
winner accepts your agreement for your name to be released,
the title of the work and a short synopsis of it.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE CALL
By registering for this contest you will be acknowledging knowledge
and acceptance of the points established in this call.
PATRIMONIAL RIGHTS
The winner will keep all the economic rights (all
those established by the Federal Copyright Law).
ASSIGNMENT OF FILMING RIGHTS
To encourage the production of the work, an agreement will be signed
production valid for up to 2 years after acceptance
of the award, through an assignment of filming rights.
(Art. 68 of the Federal Copyright Law).
RESTRICTIONS
- For transparency, team scripts will not be able to participate
permanently from the Mérida International Film Festival and
Yucatan - FICMY and the Merida and Yucatan Film Commission.
UNEXPECTED
The points not foreseen in this call will be analyzed
and resolved by the committee of the International Film Festival of
Merida and Yucatan - FICMY and the Merida Film Commission and
Yucatan.
