The Orriols Intergenerational International Short Film Festival (FICOI) invites national and international audiovisual creators to submit their works focusing on the themes of aging, old age, and/or intergenerational dialogue.

In this context, the Festival aims to promote the use of cinema as a tool to build intergenerational bridges, strengthening bonds and mutual understanding between different generations through the creation of new narratives on active aging, and dismantling social stereotypes stems from ageism or the process of growing older.

The festival statuette will be awarded to the best documentary short film, the best fiction short film, and the best short film chosen by the audience (via public vote).

Entry Requirements and Works

Maximum duration: Short films must have a maximum runtime of 20 minutes (including credits).

Theme: The core theme of the work must strictly relate to older adults, aging, old age, and/or intergenerational dialogue, addressing at least one of the thematic areas proposed by the festival.

Eligibility: Works of any nationality produced after January 1, 2020, are eligible for submission.

Language: Short films must be submitted in their original language. If the original language is not Spanish, the inclusion of Spanish subtitles is mandatory.

Submission Limit: Each director or production company may submit a maximum of two works.


Themes of Interest

Submissions may explore the following focus areas with sensitivity and a critical perspective:

Lives and Desires: Older adults, art, and social change.

Social Challenges: The digital divide, unwanted loneliness, palliative care, and the right to die with dignity.

Diversity in Aging: LGBTQ+ older adults, migrant older adults.

Contemporary Visions: The perspective of older adults on the climate crisis, demographic change, international conflicts, urban planning, etc.


Competition Categories

Fiction Category: Short films with a fictional plot and characters.

Non-Fiction Category: Documentary, reportage, or experimental short films based on reality.
