The Chia Film Festival was born as a tribute to expressive freedom, experimentation, and the poetics of reality that defined the Nouvelle Vague.

Set in an enchanting landscape, among the hills of Tuscia and the historic village of Chia, the festival celebrates cinema as an act of artistic revolution, showcasing short films, feature films, and documentaries that embody the innovative spirit of independent cinema—just as Truffaut, Godard, Varda, and Rohmer once did.

Chia International Film Festival

1. Eligibility

The following works are eligible for submission:

Short Films (maximum duration: 30 minutes)

Feature Films (longer than 60 minutes)

Documentaries (no duration limit)

All films must have been completed after January 1, 2023.

2. Themes and Genres

The Festival accepts works of any genre or theme, with a special focus on:

Stylistic and narrative experimentation
Poetics of reality
Artistic and cultural value
Independent and innovative spirit

3. language and subtitles

Films not in Italian must include subtitles in Italian or english.

English subtitles are strongly recommended for all works.

4. Submission Process

Submissions must be made through the Festival’s official platform by filling out the dedicated form and attaching:

A link to view the film (YouTube/Vimeo/other platforms)

The film’s technical data sheet
A short synopsis (max 500 characters)

The director’s biography and filmography

5. deadline

The final deadline for submissions is May 30, 2025.

6. Selection

All films will be reviewed by an artistic committee. Results will be communicated via email by June 15, 2025.

7. Screenings and awards

Selected works will be screened during the Festival, held in the village of Chia from June 27 to June 30, 2025.

8. Rights and Responsibilities

The filmmaker retains all rights to the submitted work.

The filmmaker grants the Festival permission to screen the film and use excerpts for promotional purposes.
