ABOUT FESTIVAL

Initiated by Istanbul University Faculty of Law - ‘The International Crime and Punishment Film Festival’ will be held between the dates of 16-22 October 2015 in Istanbul.

Festival aims to draw attention to the relationship between cinema and justice within an international organization and is considered to be unique as it will be held for the very first time in the world. During the Festival, approximately 100 films – amongst which are feature films, documentary and short films- will meet the audience.

The Festival will screen the latest movies of acclaimed film-makers as well as recent independent and examples from both Turkish and World Cinema. During the festival, panel discussions on cinema and justice, exhibitions, workshops and concerts will take place in addition to the movie screenings.

Cash Prizes: 20,000€

Best Film;
During the Festival, a Grand Jury will select the ‘Best Film’. The director of the ‘Best Film’ will be granted with ‘Golden Scales Award’ and 20.000 USD prize money.

Best Short Film;
During the Festival, a Grand Jury will select the ‘Best Short Film’. The director of the ‘Best Short Film’ will be granted with ‘Golden Scales Award’ and 5000 TL prize money.

Rules & Terms

In order to enter the International Crime and Punishment Film Festival, online entry form must be filled out completely. International Feature Film Competition applicants should read the Rules and Regulations. Two copies of the film in DVD (Pal) format should be posted to the Festival Office. Online viewing links for the films will not be accepted.


During the Festival, a Grand Jury will select the ‘Best Film’. The director of the ‘Best Film’ will be granted with ‘Golden Scales Award’ and 20.000 USD prize money.

All feature films in a language other than English must have English subtitles.

For each selected film, the applicants will be asked to send the English and original language dialogue lists.

Productions in all kinds of formats are eligible to enter the competition. However, screening copies must be in 35 mm and DCP. The Festival will not screen films in other formats.
The copy of the film should be suitable for screening in terms of picture and sound quality. Poorly recorded films may be eliminated by the Committee without any notification.

The original title of the film, director’s name and must be clearly and legibly written on submitted DVD copies.

All preview copies should be sent to the Festival office by Monday, August 3, 2015.
During the evaluation process, a preliminary jury will select up to 10 films for competition.
Screening copies must be sent to the festival center by Monday, 14 September 2015, till 18:00.

The preview copy of the film together with the completed entry form and following materials should be sent to the Festival center before the application deadline.

b. Synopsis

c. Complete list of production credits

d. English and original language subtitles and dialogue lists.

e. Press kit, poster and some stills form the film (300 dpi min.).

f. Director’s bio, filmography and director’s photo (300 dpi min).

g. Trailer of the film without subtitle or any logo, time-code etc. to be used in the Festival Trailer

For Short Films;

In order to enter the International Crime and Punishment Film Festival, online entry form must be filled out completely. Short Film Competition applicants should read the Rules and Regulations. Two copies of the film in DVD (Pal) format should be posted to the Festival Office. Online viewing links for the films will not be accepted.

The running time of the film should not exceed 20 minutes.

During the Festival, a Grand Jury will select the ‘Best Short Film’. The director of the ‘Best Short Film’ will be granted with ‘Golden Scales Award’ and 5000 TL prize money.

All films in a language other than English must have English subtitles.

Productions in all kinds of formats are eligible to enter the competition. However, screening copies must be either 35 mm or DCP or Digibeta.

Or should be sent in a hard disk drive. The Festival will not screen films in other formats.

If the movie file size is smaller than 4GB, you must send in Avi or MP4 format, recorded on two separate DVDs. Files larger than 4GB should be sent via hard disk.

The copy of the film should be suitable for screening in terms of picture and sound quality. Poorly recorded films may be eliminated by the Committee without any notification

The original title of the film, director’s name and must be clearly and legibly written on submitted DVD copies.

Films that have been previously screened publicly, broadcasted on television prior to the Festival, which are available for purchase on DVD, or available for continuous online viewing in their entirety, are not eligible.

All preview copies should be sent to the Festival office by Friday, August 3, 2015.
