The main idea of the Festival: SYNTHESIS OF CINEMA AND MUSIC

The aim of the Festival: to create a platform for composers, directors and journalists to work together (communications, competition, education, services).


Within the framework of the Festival there are competitions of film music and short films. The competitive program of the Festival implies the formation of creative tandems in the process of the competitive program.

Selection procedure for participants.

First stage of the online selection process.

Applications are accepted from November 5, 2021 to February 22, 2022 inclusive.

Applications for participation are accepted on the website of the Festival in the section "To apply". People between 16 and 35 years old (inclusive) can apply. The selection of films to participate in the Festival, as well as the selection of composers to participate in the second stage of the online selection is carried out by the selection committee.

Filmmakers:

Previously screened works are allowed to be sent to a wide audience. Submissions are accepted as a completed short film WITHOUT musical accompaniment and will be considered only with a scripted musical accompaniment submission.

All films that qualify for the finals will be screened with live instrumental accompaniment, which should be considered in the scripted entry.

Contest entry requirements:

1) Submissions sent after the deadline will not be considered.

2) Timing of the film: up to 30 minutes.

3) No restrictions on genres and styles, creative and non-standard approach to the creation of the project, as well as a completely new vision of short films and musical accompaniment are welcome.

4) No films will be accepted that contain:

- Elements of pornography

- Racial hatred

- In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, warnings about the dangers of alcohol and tobacco should be placed if the film contains scenes of smoking or drinking alcohol.

Composers:

Composers provide examples of their work (or links to their work) in any form. The composer must be proficient in arranging and have experience writing orchestral scores.

Second phase of the online selection process (March 1 - March 9, 2022)

Based on the results of the first phase of the selection process, participants will be taken to a site with a bidding system. Detailed tender instructions will be posted on the Festival website and on this platform in advance.

On March 1, composers will receive a list of films selected by the committee, with a specified timing of one fragment of the film (not more than 5 minutes) and with the criteria of the required soundtrack for the fragment.

Composers send to the director(s) their musical work (in any audio or video format). Composers can write material for one, several or all of the films.

On March 7, directors select a composer based on the musical material they receive from them. This selection automatically forms a team (one team includes one composer and one director).

Participants are admitted to the first round only as part of a team! The name of the team is awarded automatically by the name of the film.

Special conditions:

1. If one composer is chosen by more than one director, the right of final choice goes to the composer:

1.1 In case some director (or directors) is left without a composer, the Festival gives additional tender time. The final allocation takes place on March 9.

1.2 Composers who do not make the team may continue to send musical material to directors who have not had time to make a selection or remain without a composer.

2. If a director does not select a composer to form a team by March 9, his film is automatically dropped from the competition.

If the composer refuses to cooperate with the director, he or she is automatically eliminated from the competition.

The order of the contest for the participants of the Creative Lab

For the Symphonic Music category:

By April 1, 2022, composers must send their completed film scores to the curators. In case of delay, the team is disqualified (if the composer fails to meet the deadline, he/she must inform the curator two days in advance of the sending date).

The Festival provides the participants with an orchestra as well as a base of soloists-instrumentalists and two soloists-vocalists for non-orchestral numbers.


I round

Contest teams prepare contest material for round I.

Round I takes place in the show and open discussion for the jury and participants.

The main criterion for the evaluation of the jury at this stage is the correct collaboration of the participants, the correspondence of the music to the director's idea, the level of preparation of the score and sheet music. The quality of the musical recording is not a priority criterion.

Requirements to contest material for the first round:

1. Presentation of film music in free form

1.1 Soundtracks may be presented in the form of a piano recording, demo recording made in any music creation program or other format, and must be integrated into the film.

1.2 Music for the film must be completely original. If plagiarism is detected, the director and composer of this team will be dropped from the competition.

1.3 The director must participate in the presentation of the music. It is necessary to allocate 2-5 minutes for presentation (briefly tell about the concept, about their joint work inside the team, about ideas, about music, about film, etc...)

1.4 If a team decides to include song numbers in their film, the Festival does not provide poets to help write lyrics.

1.5 The list of instruments that can be used (based on the Festival's soloist base) will be sent to the composers in advance.


2. Ready printed score and sheet music of all musical numbers!!!!!


II round (Finals)

Requirements to the participants to submit their compositions for the second round:

1) Composer sends completed score to mentors for review.

2) All teams must attend rehearsals of the orchestra and soloists according to a set rehearsal schedule to be communicated in advance.

Round II is a film concert (screening of short films with live orchestral accompaniment).

The winner is determined by the results of the jury's evaluation after viewing all the entries. In parallel, there is an online audience voting to determine the winner of the Audience Favorite Award.
