Festival start: 15 October 2020      Festival end: 18 October 2020

A Femme International Film Festival is a premier festival that focuses on platforming women filmmakers “by women, for everyone”. Our Festival was created in 2005, when it became apparent that there was a need to enhance women behind the camera as Directors, Producers, and Writers. We were the first in Los Angeles to host such an event and film festival empowering women. All those that followed are just duplicates of the movement we started over a decade ago.

Through our Partners and Sponsors we have provided one-one-one meetings with our filmmakers or helped secure financing. CBS Entertainment Diversity Department and Sony Entertainment met with a selected group of our filmmakers with the goal to offer potential employment and/or placement as a director or writer under their diversity department. It is through our direct efforts that these opportunities are being secured for our LA Femme Int. Film Festival Filmmakers.

As LA Femme moves into the next few years, it plans to expand its platform so that more women in the industry and from around the world can have the benefit of taking their film to the next level through increased distribution outlets, more key positions in the entertainment industry and more recognition as artistic creators emerging as leaders in the industry.

Our goal is to create more such opportunities through exemplary programming, networking, and panel events. A classic professional atmosphere will create a sense of ‘opportunity’ for participants. LA Femme International Film Festival is “By Women for Everyone.”

Objectives:
To continually showcase and celebrate commercially viable films Written, Directed, or Produced by women.

To opening a pathway for women entering the industry by encouraging mentor-ship and artistic sharing between those women established in the field and those just beginning.

To Platform new emerging talent and support established women in cross-over roles.

To assist in distributing the feature films that are platformed in our festival with domestic theatrical releases and home video distribution.

Mission:
La Femme International Film Festival will support and nurture the artistic entertainment productions of women for the benefit of distribution to an international and domestic audience.

Emphasis:
»Our emphasis is on providing a complete specialized festival based on showcasing and celebrating commercially successful films written, directed, or produced by women and creating a system of access for those new to the industry directly to established women industry professionals.
»To assist in distribution of these films
»To mentor other women into positions of power in the independent and big budget, studio entertainment community.

Summary:
LA Femme Film Festival is more than a festival it is an emergence of artistic, professional women who make a difference in the entertainment community by creating productions that speak to a world wide audience. We were the first festival of its kind in Beverly Hills to not only platform existing films and artists but also distribute and mentor such films and the woman artists who created them.

Our Distribution Partners screen the films from the festival and offers distribution deals annually to those selected to screen or the winners of the film categories. In the last several years a large number of films were awarded a full distribution deal, other received limited distribution. We hope to see more in the future through our additional distribution partnerships.

In addition, each winner receives a crystal award, gifts and prizes valued up to $3,000

ATTENTION FILMMAKERS: If you are submitting from a emerging nation or embargoed country and not from the United States you will be able to provide us a screener link upon payment of submission.

If selected to screen you will need to provide online or via secure DHL or FEDEX your DCP exhibition copy. We screen only in DCP now as the technology is industry standard for exhibiting festivals.

DCP's must be formatted for Zone 1 / North America or Zone 0 / All Regions. No other zones are accepted.

Also note you will be disqualified if you are screening in another woman's festival in LOS ANGELES during the same weekend as our festival. We want to ensure that our festival attendees are able to participate and network with our industry professionals and if your attention is split then you may not make the most of the events we provide for those attending.

FESTIVAL FAQ:

DO I HAVE TO SELECT THE CATEGORY I AM SUBMITTING TO?
Yes do your best to determine where it may fit. If your film is selected for the Festival, our Programming Staff will determine which program best suits the project. Make sure your application is complete. You will need to select and submit under shorts, features, screenplay, TV Pilot, commercial or music video. It is the mid length films that most filmmakers have questions regarding.

DO YOU HAVE TO BE A WOMAN TO SUBMIT A FILM?
"NO a man can submit to this film festival but a woman must be named in one of the positions below. This is to support and nurture the development of women in leading film positions. But you must follow the below guidelines.

" A woman needs to be involved in one of the three film positions: Director, Producer, Writer". They can share the title with a man as a co-diretor, co-producer or co-writer.

"Writers of Screenplays and TV Pilots must have at least one woman writer on the writing team".

WHAT KIND OF FILMS DO YOU ACCEPT AND FROM WHERE?
" We accept films from all countries world wide in any genera".

" We accept music videos and commercials".

"We accept animation- FEATURE or SHORT".

"We accept all forms of : FEATURES, DOCUMENTARY, SHORTS, MUSIC VIDEOS, WEB SERIES, COMMERCIALS, ANIMATION, SCREENPLAYS, and TV SCRIPT PILOTS"

HOW DO YOU DISTINGUISH "SHORTS" FROM "FEATURES"?

The requirements lengths (time length of film) are different for narrative Feature Films , shorts or documentaries.

NARRATIVE FEATURE FILMS

" 1 to 40 minutes running length is considered a SHORT

" 60 to 120 minutes running length is considered a FEATURE

"40 to 59 minutes running length is considered a MID LENGTH FEATURE

" 50 minutes or more running length is considered a FEATURE DOCUMENTARY

"1 to 40 minutes running length is considered a SHORT DOCUMENTARY

" 30 seconds to 5 minutes running length is considered a Commercial/Music Video

" 30 minutes (max) or less running length is considered a Web Series.

" any length is considered for a Game

Any film falling between the times will be accepted ( as a MID LENGTH FILM) but decided upon by the festival staff what competition category it will be entered into.

ANYTHING THAT FALLS BETWEEN WE WILL DECIDE WHAT CATEGORY OF FEATURE, DOCUMENTARY OR SHORT.

WHEN DOES THE LA FEMME INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TAKE PLACE?

The Festival will take place in OCTOBER in Los Angeles, CA

CAN I SUBMIT MY FILM AS A "ROUGH CUT"?

"Rough Cuts," "Avid Cuts," or "Temp Prints" will be accepted for screening. You should always list directly on the tape box which elements of your film are missing. This will assist us in the judging process.

CAN I SUBMIT MY FILM WITH A "TEMP TRACK" OR "SCRATCH MUSIC"?

"Temp Tracks," "Scratch Music," or "Temp Sound" will be accepted for screening and showing. Again, you should always list directly on the tape box which elements are missing.

HOW MANY FILMS CAN I SUBMIT?
As many as you like. Or you can re-submit your film if it was not selected last year. However, each submitted film must have its own completed Submission Form, Entry Fee, and Supplemental Materials.

DOES IT MATTER HOW BIG MY BUDGET WAS, OR IF I HAVE AN AGENT OR CELEBRITIES, OR IF IT'S BLACK & WHITE, OR VIDEO, OR GENRE?
Not at all. Just send in the work. We will be selecting a wide variety of projects so no worries. We want to see what the indie feature filmmaker is producing.

Unfortunately, no. With over 3,000 films to go through, we don't have enough time to speak or correspond with you individually about your film. Please forgive us. But what we will do is offer you one ticket to attend the festival and parties so that you can network if you film is NOT selected to screen.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF MY FILM WAS SELECTED?
We will contact you via email the second..ish week of September for those selected. If you are not selected because of the volume of submissions we will not be able to notify you of your rejection. We are working to resolve this notification process but please be understanding we are a very small staff. Please make sure that the email address and telephone you provide will be operational at that time of festival selection which is in September. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
