LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival is an environmental & human rights film festival

As we are preparing for the post-petroleum era?

This festival starts with the intention of overshooting the simple exposure. Although it is important to raise public awareness on the risks connected to the exploitation and to the use of natural resource in the production of fossil fuels, still remains, the enormous and dramatic problem of the disasters caused by the lack of energy, with particular reference to the water supply, highly relevant to the world population. The main objective of the festival will be, therefore, not only emphasizing problems related to the use of fossil fuels, but especially identifying the alternatives which take into account, according to the present scientific knowledge, the several well-known methods of production.

LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival 2026 / RULES

**We do not accept films already registered in previous years or available online, will be automatically discarded**

1- Organization
LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival is organized by LIFE AFTER OIL Associazione Culturale based in Sardinia and in collaboration with public and private entities.

2 - Dates and length
LIFE AFTER OIL Film Festival will be held in Villanovaforru (SU) Sardinia, Italy from June 16th to June 20th 2026. Deadline for sending films January 15th 2026.

Maximum length for short-film: 20 minutes including credits

4 – Purposes
The main purpose of the festival is to promote films on the experiences and projects for alternatives to oil and fossil fuels.
They can participate in LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival movies or audiovisual documents without time limit and/or genre.

5 - Official language
All works will be accepted in all languages with subtitles in English or Italian.

6 - Entry to the festival and deadline
Competitions include environmental and human rights theme films produced from January 1st 2024.

Works accepted realized within cinema workshops organized by public and also produced films such as dissertations. The deadline for submissions, is set to January 15th 2026.. Films entered in past editions will be automatically excluded.

7 – Selected Films
The jury of pre-selection and the artistic director of the festival will select the works to be shown to the public and those eligible for prizes.

The list of selected films will be published on www.lifeafteroil.org and authors selected will be notified by email by February 1st 2026.

The selected films must be a premiere in Sardinia otherwise they will be discarded. The selected films must be received at the festival via e-mail (info@lifeafteroil.org) in digital high-resolution HD 1920X1080 or higher, along with No. 1 photo of the director, No. 1 scene photos, dialogue list in english or/and an SRT file format in english for films not in italian, no later than February 15th, 2026. The material will not be returned and will be part of the archive of the festival. Films that must be paid are not accepted.

8 - Screenings
The selected works will be screened and some works not selected among the choices made.The timing and location of the projections will be published on www.lifeafteroil.org

9. Acceptance
Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these rules in its entirety.

The Festival can make decisions on matters not provided for in this Regulation.

Registration for the Festival involves the automatic authorization to use free extracts of the work for a maximum of 60 seconds for the broadcast television and promotional purposes of the festival. The film can also be used in schools, universities and non-profit cultural events upon communication and authorization 15 days before the event itself. By entering the festival is implicitly declares, pursuant to and for the effects of the italian/law 196/2003 land subsequent amendments of the European General Data Protection Regulation,, to be fully informed of the purposes and methods of data treatment consciously indicated in the card and authorize the storage in the database of LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival.

Any legal dispute will fall within the Jurisdiction of the Court of Sassari, Italy.
