VR FILM REGULATIONS

1. ORGANIZATION AND OBJECTIVES

The Mecal 360 VR and AR Festival, the first Virtual Reality film festival held in Spain, will hold its 9th edition on October 1, 2, and 3, 2025, and will recognize the quality and innovation of national and international virtual reality short films.

The competition is organized by Mecal, which organizes Mecal Pro, the Barcelona International Short Film and Animation Festival.

2. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

2.1. The 9th Mecal 360 VR and AR Festival in Barcelona is open to all directors, producers, and distributors of short films, experiences, or any audiovisual piece created in virtual reality, from any country.

2.2. ONLY WORKS MADE IN VIRTUAL REALITY (animation, fiction, or documentary) PRODUCED AFTER JANUARY 1, 2024, ARE ACCEPTED.

2.3 All VR formats and themes are accepted in all categories as long as they have a version for Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard, YouTube 360, or meet the technical specifications in point 2.10.

2.4 The festival will have a single section.

2.5 There is no duration limit.

2.6 There is no registration fee.

2.7 The organization reserves the right to use excerpts (maximum 20 seconds) or stills from the selected works to promote them and the 9th Mecal 360º VR and AR Barcelona.

2.8 All titles will be available for viewing in the event's VR cinema to accredited professionals and attendees, respecting and safeguarding copyright. Under no circumstances will the works leave the 9th Mecal 360 in Barcelona.

2.9 The registration deadline is August 31, 2025.

2.10. Description of the materials to be submitted and how to submit them:

1) Fill out the Festhome registration form.

2) Send a link to the VR experience via YouTube 360 or by sending a video with the following technical specifications:
MPG4 at 2048x1152 H264 codec, 30fps stereo ACC audio

2.11 The selection committee will be made up of festival programmers and VR specialists.

2.12 Producers or distributors must guarantee that they legally own the rights to the project, including those indirectly related (e.g., music).

3. PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE

4. SELECTION

4.1 The selected short films will be published on the 9th Mecal 360 Barcelona website in October 2025.

4.2 The organization will notify the authors of their selection in advance.

5. REGISTRATION CONDITIONS

5.1 Participation in the 9th Mecal 360 Barcelona implies full acceptance of these regulations.
