CALL FOR OFFICIAL SELECTION MICMXIFF5

The call for entries opens on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 12:00 noon.

The closing date for feature and short films will be Friday, January 12, 2024 at 23:59 hrs.

THE 5th EDITION OF THE MICMXIFF INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will be held from March 16 to 23, 2024.

The MICMXIFF INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL seeks to promote and disseminate the film production of Mexico and the world through the meeting and collaboration of its industries, the formation of new talents and the dissemination of films from the region so that they can access a wider audience.


REGISTRATION AND SELECTION

- All materials are evaluated by a selection committee made up of specialists and people from the industry chaired by the general direction of the MICMXIFF.

- The programming team may adapt the works to any sub-category not specified in the call for entries, either by any genre pattern, theme or technique that is in demand in the submitted works, for example: horror, stop motion, horror, etc.


To be considered, films must be submitted in the following manner:

- Fill out the registration form available at www.micmxiff.com and at Festhome.

- Entries must be accompanied by digital screeners.

- The selection of the works will be the responsibility of the festival's programming team and members of the pre-selection juries.

- The selection will be final.

- Send PRESS KIT including the following materials: still photo of the work (in jpg or tif format at 300 dpi); synopsis of the work (English and Spanish); brief biography of the director (English and Spanish); photograph of the director (in jpg or tif format at 300 dpi); technical file with list of credits in Festhome.

- The registration and participation of a film implies full acceptance of these rules and the dates stipulated in the Call for Entries.


JURY

- The jury will be made up of renowned professionals from the film industry and the cultural sphere.

- Its members will be nominated by the Organizing Committee.

- Each institution invited by the MICMXIFF will select and nominate its representative(s).

- Members of the MICMXIFF may be present at the jury deliberations but may not cast a vote.

- The final decision of the jury is final. No official award may be declared void.

- The awards for Best Film in each section may not be declared ex aequo.

- If the Jury so decides, honorable mentions may be given and/or more than one film may be awarded if the Jury so decides (statuette only).

- The Audience Award will be given to the film rated best by the audience.

- The public will cast its vote during the public screenings.


EXHIBITION

- The Festival Management will decide on the order and date of exhibition of each film.

- Entries may be selected for out-of-competition screenings.

- The selected works may be part of the national and international screenings in which the MICMXIFF participates during 2024.

- All films selected for the MICMXIFF must submit a final exhibition copy in DCP or Blue Ray digital format.

- For competing sections, films in Spanish must be subtitled in English; films in other languages must be subtitled in Spanish and English.

- Subtitling costs are the responsibility of the applicant.

CATEGORIES IN COMPETITION

LONG FILMS
(60 - 120 minutes, including credits)

In film, video or digital format, which have not been distributed in theaters in the country, exhibited online, public theaters, television, or distributed on Blu-ray/DVD, internet streaming sites, social networks or VOD platforms, and whose date of production is after January 1, 2023, may compete in the following categories:

- INTERNATIONAL FICTION FEATURE FILM
- IBERO-AMERICAN FICTION FEATURE FILM
- INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FEATURE FILM
- INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
- MX FICTION FEATURE FILM
- MX DOCUMENTARY FEATURE FILM

*Priority in the section will be given to national, international and world premieres.


SHORT FILMS
(Maximum length 30 min. including credits)

Film, video or digital format, whose date of production is after January 1, 2023, may participate in the following categories:

- INTERNATIONAL SHORT FICTION FILM
- IBEROAMERICAN SHORT FICTION FILM
- ANIMATION SHORT FILM
- MX FICTION SHORT FILM
- MX DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM
- ACADEMY SHORT FILM MX

*Priority in the section will be given to national, international and world premieres.


OUT OF COMPETITION SECTIONS
The out-of-competition program is invited to participate in free screenings throughout the year.

- EXPERIMENTAL SHORT FILM
- FEATURE FILM GUEST COUNTRY


AWARDS

The awards granted within the MICMXIFF reward talent, recognize and promote the artistic development of filmmakers, as well as encourage the strengthening of the audiovisual industry.

- The official award of the MICMXIFF is the MICXOLOTL, a commemorative statuette given to the winners of the sections in competition.

- Each award will be decided by an international jury made up of film professionals, whose names will be announced in due course. The decisions of the juries will be final.

- Prizes may include trophies, money or equipment and in-kind services provided by our sponsors, for example, post-production services, production, catering, film equipment, etcetera.

- There are unofficial awards granted independently by institutions, associations and companies affiliated with MICMXIFF.

- The sponsors of these awards will define their own system and rules of operation; the MICMXIFF has no influence over them.

The awards will be announced at the end of the Festival by the international jury formed for each section, who will evaluate the artistic excellence of the films in competition.

CONDITIONS

- There is no entry limit for the number of films per filmmaker or per production entity.

- Video clips, commercial or political propaganda works will not be accepted.

- Once submitted, the film cannot be withdrawn.

- Under no circumstances will any payment be made for the exhibition rights of a work.

- The General Direction of the MICMXIFF will be in charge of resolving any matter not provided for in these regulations. These cases will be evaluated by the management and those responsible for the area involved.

- Failure to comply with one or more of its paragraphs may imply the cancellation of participation in the MICMXIFF or the disqualification of the film in competition.

- The MICMXIFF has a zero tolerance policy for cases of disrespect, harassment or situations that put at risk the integrity of the guests in general, the organizing committee, the public and volunteers.
