Migration in Transit is a global festival that harnesses the power of cinema to delve into the complexities of migration, fostering empathy, inclusion, and intercultural dialogue. This event addresses multiple dimensions of human mobility, including:

Internal and International Migration: Movements of people within a country or across international borders in search of better opportunities or living conditions.
Refugees and Asylum Seekers: Individuals fleeing persecution, conflict, or human rights violations who seek protection in other countries.
Internally Displaced Persons: Those forced to leave their homes due to conflict, natural disasters, or violence but remain within their country’s borders.
Forced Migration: Displacements driven by war, persecution, economic crises, or climate disasters.
Migration, Environment, and Climate Change: Stories highlighting how environmental degradation, desertification, and extreme weather events compel people to leave their homes.

With its main hub in Peru (Piura, Trujillo, Moquegua, Lima) and international screenings in Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Mexico, and the United States, the festival celebrates the stories of individuals embarking on a journey in search of a better future.

The festival invites filmmakers, students, and media artists from around the world to participate by presenting documentaries, fiction films, animations, music videos, and short films that depict migratory experiences from diverse perspectives.

The festival will feature an international film competition to award the best productions that address the topic of migration.

Categories:

Best Documentary: True stories that portray the essence and challenges of migration.

Best Fiction: Imaginative narratives that explore the migration phenomenon from unique perspectives.

Short Film: Brief works that capture the essential aspects and emotions of migration.

Experimental: Innovative productions that break with traditional forms to tell migration stories.

Animation: Animated stories that convey the experience of migration from creative and visually striking perspectives.

Music Video: Videos that combine music and visual narration to address issues related to migration.

Video Podcast/Podcast: Audiovisual or audio-only productions that analyze or tell stories about migration in a creative way.

Fauna Migration: Productions that highlight the migratory phenomenon in the animal kingdom, exploring its impact and natural beauty.

A jury composed of filmmakers, academics and social leaders will evaluate the works, highlighting those that provide new perspectives and foster intercultural understanding.

The festival is not only a cultural event, but a platform for social change. Through cinema and the international competition, it fosters empathy and solidarity at a critical time for migrant communities, highlighting their contributions to host societies and promoting inclusive policies.
