Penitente Film Fest is the first Boyacense festival dedicated to genre cinema, emphasizing Sci-Fi, fantasy and terror. It was created as an alternative to the existing festivals in the department and in the country, whose focus is not so particular. From the organization, we believe that the genre cinema remains in force, with the same capacity to amaze, wonder, and unsettle us while transverse or parallel offers new ways to interpret and shape our reality and that of filmmakers around the world.
We begin a journey towards unknown universes, Penitente Film Fest announces its first call, which will take place from April 21 to July 15, 2023.
The festival will give special recognition to the following winning short films:
Best National Sci-Fi Short Film, Horror or Fantasy
Best International Sci-Fi Short Film
Best International Terror Short Film
Best International Fantasy Short Film
The Jury may award the following special mentions to the short films as they consider
Best Director
Best Screenplay
Best Actress or Actor
Best Sound Design
Best Cinematography
Best Art Direction
Best Original Music
Best Editing
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Short films whose original language is not Spanish must have Spanish and/or english subtitles in their viewing copies. Also, if it’s selected, they must send a copy of the short film with Spanish subtitles, either embedded or in a .srt file.
- Projection copies must be at least 1920x1080 resolution with H.264 codec and .mp4 format
- If the short film is selected you must send a basic press kit or promotional material (poster, stills, trailer, director's photograph)
1. RECOGNITIONS: Knowing how important it is to stimulate film production for festivals, the Penitente Film Fest will give monetary incentives to each of the winners in the different categories with the exception of special recognitions. In addition, official certifications and the corresponding laurels will be sent.
2. JURIES: For each of the competitions there will be an official jury made up of national filmmakers, critics, programmers and/or people related to culture. They will be in charge of declaring the winners, as well as giving special recognitions as appropriate.
3. RESULTS: Those selected will be notified by the festival production during the month of October. Sending the projection file will be taken as a commitment of participation.
The list of those selected will be announced in October 1st through the social networks Facebook and Instagram.
4. CONDITIONS:
By registering through this platform, the people responsible for the exhibition rights of the selected films accept that they will be screened in the different activities of the Penitente Film Fest.
Likewise, they completely accept the content of these rules, any doubt will be solved by the Festival's management.
The material sent will become part of the festival's archive.
For possible subsequent and itinerant screenings, the corresponding permission will be requested from the filmmakers.
