It is an amazing time where opinions are polarized and many find themselves asking "there must be a better way". We want the Purple Turtle Short Film Festival to be a meeting place of inspirational ideas and themes that allow ordinary people to have an extraordinary voice.
*PTS Post Traumatic Stress affects 1 in 8 people in Australia whilst 1 in 2 in the military suffer from it, many people in our region have suffered or are still suffering trauma around 2 one hundred year floods and Qld's largest ever bushfire all in the last 8 years. Do you want to tell a story about how our region has been affected and how we can help in the recovery? We feel many mental health issues are rooted in community disconnection and isolation.
*What is the best thing about the Discovery Coast, Miram Vale, Mount Maria, Rosedale, Baffle Creek, Captain Creek, Lowmead, Agnes Water - what makes home home?
*If you won a million dollars, what could you change, what should you leave the same?
*What makes you laugh; it could a pet with funny little ways or how your Grandpa (or Grandma) keeps the whole house awake snoring when they come to visit
*What Inspires You?
*You might find the opportunity to ask our marginalised "What is it like to be you?" This might include a myriad of stories but topical at the moment are the #metoo movement, indigenous marginalisation and bridging the gap, youth suicide.
*Millions of refugees around the world, in hundreds of different situations face death daily. Many travel long, frightening, treachourous journeys only to be imprisoned for years in detention centres, most without hope of making a life we take for granted here in Australia.
*The environment is an issue often misunderstood. Your team might want to address issues such as climate change science. (e.g. 1 in 3 people in the USA do not believe it is fact) Or how the Paris agreement is not enough to actually address the issues and how most countries such as Australia and the USA aren't meeting agreed standards. What can we do?
*You might find inspiration from surfing or walking through nature or painting or writing. What inspires you? How can you be you? The real you, not the one your mum or dad wants or your teacher or even your friends. How do you find the real you?
*Tell us about what you love, it could be horses, cows, growing things, music, surfing, fishing, diving, swimming or just hanging out with your friends.
*Many mental health issues are rooted in community disconnection and isolation. Traumatic events exacerbate this - can you see ways for people to tell their story, for their voices to be heard and understood.
*Fathers spent 3-8 minutes and mothers 8-20 minutes a day with their kids in 1975. In 2002 those numbers had increased to 35 minutes and 65 minutes respectively. Is our children's lack of parental time a factor in their wellbeing? https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/claire-orange/parents-are-spending-more-time-with-their-kids-but-its-not-the_a_23044424/
